Okay... You might actually be onto something, because just like in gen 7, eturnatus and necrozma are what causes the weird energy that reacts with Pokemon in someway, and use that energy themselves to transform
I have an idea! Guzzlord and Naganadel are friendly because Naganadel is a communal species, which is also probably why they work so well as starter pokemon. Guzzlord is just like, a big hungry friend, and it probably sees Naganadel as helpful for getting food.
I can see the mutualistic aspect-Guzzlord protects Naganadel's hive and Naganadel and its Poipole workers treat and feed Guzzlord like it's part of the hive.
If Poipole and Naganadel are based on wasps/bees, and Guzzlord is a corrupted/twisted mirror Zygarde, then I think the reason they’re friends is pretty obvious. I mean the embodiment of the ecosystem, and one of its critical pollinators? Naganadel are probably critical to the life cycle of all Guzzlord’s favorite fruits. And since Naganadel is telepathic, Guzzlord doesn’t have to hurt his throat screaming at them to talk! Clearly a match made in Ultra Heaven.
I like to think they just cover each other’s weaknesses. Guzzlord helps with any psychic types attacking Naganadel and Naganadel assists with any fairies harassing Guzzlord.
Naganadel for the most part is like the Blaziken/Garchomp of the Ultra beasts It knows Poison, Dragon and fire moves. That basically covers all its weaknesses. it's high speed and offensive stats can melt down any target, including the types it cannot hit for 1x damage Which is basically none.
I could've sworn he covered Celesteela before, talking about the origins of it as a reference to Princess Kaguya from an old Japanese poem about lunar royalty and bamboo. Celesteela is a being that mixes elements of space shuttles, bamboo, and multilayered kimonos with long hair.
One stray thought I had about naga and guzz's duo thing is that maybe it's like silver surfer and galactus. Naga being the surfer is sending poipoles out to warn/colonize for the arrival of the big bad eating machine being guzzlord and galactus. Idk how well this idea will hold, I haven't read dex entries, nor seen the anime since b&w, but I think this could be why they were paired. Like an alien fleet sending the scouts and cruisers before the mothership comes to destroy the planet or something
I would love to hear what kind of direction Guzzlord‘s voice actor got. “OK so like what kind of voice are you going for kind of like deep and spooky or like-“ “Oh no no no we have a much better idea for how we’re gonna do this Pokémon. So what you’re going to do is go into the booth and scream as loud as you possibly can directly into the microphone.” “A-are you sure about tha-“ “Yes, now get in the booth.”
The first thing I ever thought of when seeing Guzzlord was Unicron from Transformers. I mean they're both big, round, evil monsters that devour everything in their path. Actually now that I think about it, if shiny Guzzlord's white was replaced by a yellowy-orange, it would be a perfect match
I wonder if Guzzlord takes the reincarnation aspect of one of its inspirations to heart and is what happens to Zyguarde if the environment is screwed over by humans hard enough
So, maybe the two Pokémon are often paired up relates to terraforming in a way. Guzzlord would destroy every within an area, while Naganadel would build in up from that to create a hive? That's the only thing that comes to mind for me personally.
Scarlet and Violet designs are... interesting in my opinion. They work but I feel like the Paldea mons are missing a bit of the flair the gen 8 mons had.
Guzzlord being constantly hungry makes me wonder how it’s own world is even sustained what with there being so many apparently. My personal theory is that what we know as Guzzlord is not it’s true form. Rather, something about our dimension causes its body to bloat and expand into the beast we’re familiar with, with its endless appetite being the only thing that can keep it sustained. Basically, think of how abyssal sea creatures need all the pressure down there to maintain their odd shapes, and would die if they ascended too high. Guzzlord experiences a drastic shift in “spatial” pressure upon entering our dimension, giving it that grotesque form we know.
Maybe Guzzlord and Naganadel are pictured together because they can somewhat cover each other in an "I got your back if you got my back" kind of partnership, with the dark Guzzlord being unfazed by the psycic types who threaten Naganadel while its poison is able to keep the fairy types at bay who could decimate the quad weak Guzzlord.
What I’m about to say is probably a stretch, but with what you said about Poiple being the “kid friendly” alien, the reason Naganadel and Guzzlord are paired together might be that Naganadel is the rest of Poiple’s “people” that aren’t as friendly and hellbent on invading/destroying Earth, and Guzzlord is their “Mothership” or “Ultimate Weapon” of sorts, which was made to invade/destroy Earth.
So humanity crossed the line, Zygarde got angry, started eating everything and then Zygarde got fat. the end Unless the future scientists decided to fuse Zygarde cells with a snorlax, that works too
But Guzzlord used to be a common species in it's world (they are rare now due to a nuclear radiation due to at east one nuclear power plant meltdown and humans making them devour irradiated rubble for rebuilding purposes)
They were paired up simply because the Ultra Beast tag and the Tag Team tag were pretty important during the seventh generation, and they wanted cards with both tags on them. Since a requirement for a Tag Team is for both pokemon involved to share a type, it makes sense they chose to pair Naganadel & Guzzlord, and also Buzzwole & Pheromosa. Bummer we never got Celesteela & Stakataka, tho.
Here's a thought what if naganadel is friends with nuzzlord because of symbiosis of one massive predator being assisted or aided by a smaller flying creature, or maybe naganadel is a scavenger finding prey left over from a great predators rampage.
I think one of Guzzlord and Zygarde’s parallels is Vishnu and Shiva. Zygarde is Vishnu, a preserver with many, progressively weaker but still legendary forms both man and beast Guzzlord is shiva, the destroyer commonly associated with destruction of ignorance (Guzzlord makes people very aware of their danger)
on the Guzzlord-Zygarde theory, I wondered if maybe Guzzlord took some inspiration from cancer cells, because Zygarde is based on regular cells, and Guzzlord is incredibly dangerous, consuming whatever it comes across, like how cancer destroys the body. it would also explain Guzzlord's bloated shape, like a tumour.
I'm surprised Lockstin goes on about how Guzzlord looks like a mech anime villain mech, but then doesn't tie it back to Zygarde's Complete Forme looking kinda like a mech too 🤔
I've always had a headcanon that guzzlord are middle stage Pokémon, one that is constantly eating to get enough energy to evolve, the evolution becoming a more efficient hunter due to losing its ability to consume everything like a black hole
Thinking about the whole Guzzlord VS Zygarde thing, it occurs to me that with it's legs, it's pointy head, and massive tongue-mouth-tentacle-claw things, Guzzlord looks vaguely like a W, which contrasts with the Z from Zygarde 50%'s serpentine form.
5:26 This isn't the first time Lockstin has used this art of Emrakuul to repersent eldrich abominations, and for some reason whenever he does I get excited for recognizing her- "Hi Emra!'
I always drew a comparison between Guzzlord and Hydreigon: They're both Dark/Dragon. They both have multiple mouths and multiple sets of eyes. Both are known for their dangerous demeanor. In addition, the Deino line can be found naturally in Alola. In USUM, Guzzlord's ultra space implies that the planet was ruined by pollution, to the point the planet was abandoned. So, I always thought that Guzzlord was a Deino-line pokemon that mutated due to radiation.
Guzzlord is quad weak to fairy so having a poison type dragon buddy around could be a kind of symbiosis they've formed. Alien alliances with similar goals and all that kinda trope.
16:27 I never would’ve thought to put Stitch, The Iron Giant, and E.T. into the same category of “nice aliens that befriend a human kid.” They’re all just so different Also two of them were literally created to be weapons of mass destruction
Well you see, a little while after it hatched, a young Guzzlord ate a liquor store and got into a bit of trouble with the Ultra Recon Squad because it was under 21. Naganadel, witnessing the whole thing and not wanting the young Guzzlord's entire life to be defined by one bad choice it made in while it was hungry, spoke to the space police on it's behalf and got them to drop the sentence to just a small fine and some light community service cleaning up the rubble of what I'm sure used to be someone's house before Guzzlord got to it. They've been best friends ever since~
Not wanting the young Guzzlord's entire life to be defined by one bad choice: The people running the alternate Hau'oli City nuclear power plant: Oh no anyways
I think Guzzlord and Naganadel are paired up together because of their duality: One is an ultrabeast that rips apart everything in its way while the other sticks together everything with super glue. This duality connection is also proven by the fact that lore wise, Guzzlord is the most threatening pokemon to humans while Poipole/Naganadel is the friendliest towards humans. Similar to the duality between Pheromosa and Buzzwole, that also share pretty much completely opposite concepts.
The Ultra Beasts could also be based off the 7 Deadly Sins (at least the original 7 can be) Nihilego - Envy Buzzwole - Pride Pheromosa - Lust Xurkitree - Greed Kartana - Wrath Celesteela - Sloth Guzzlord - Gluttony
Anyone realize the Paldea starters kinda resemble the other starters specifically Totodile, Torchic, and Litten? Their final forms kinda show more similarities but they are different. Are they regional variants, a coincidence, or a product of convergent evolution? Personally, I think they are related and that’s that.
Hey lockstin! Love ur vids! Could you do a quick vid on Buizel? I should probably stop asking at this point, but I really like the line, and find it neat how they can fly and float
I didn't expect such an apt comparison to Agrajag! Nor the lead designer drawing inspiration from him! Though, in the most technical sense, Agrajag doesn't actually "metamorphize" into other beings for Arthur to kill. It's just his "spirit" being reincarnated into another life that somehow meets its end via Arthur, however unfairly The bowl of petunias being suspended 200 miles above a particularly grim planet being one of my personal favorite lives of Agrajag, also the patron at Stavro Muler Beta. God I love Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Still one of the best stories I've ever heard, and the radio drama sits atop as the single best audiobook series I've EVER heard. Simply phenomenal Really nice to see something I'm a diehard fan of get some recognition!
Possible reason for the team up is actually kind of simple(-ish?) Looking at naganadale's home world and the fact that I doubt that guzzlord is found in its home world in the game maybe, just hear me out, maybe they are from the same home world. Cause being honest its kind weird that you can only find ONE typeof pokemon in each ultraworm hole.
Something I've noticed between Zygarde complete and Guzzlord is actually a parallel to tengen toppa Gurren Lagann. The final form of Gurren Lagann, the titular Tengen toppa Gurren Lagann, is the complete form of the mecha. Granzeboma, the anti spiral mecha, is quite literally a dark reflection of TTGL.
I love the idea that Poipole is a starter and it stands to reason that if you got two more Ultra Beast starters they'd be Yellow and Cyan in coloration. The Normal Starters are Red, Blue and Green, primary colors on the light spectrum, so with Poipole and 2 others you'd get the secondary colors. I would absolutely love to see what those starters are, what types would match those colors/type match with Poison. My biggest issue is that Poipole only has 1 evolution compared to the usual 2 you get from a starter, but hey maybe that's just the standard in ultra space.
Personally I liked your idea about Guzzlord being a caterpillar and Naganadel waiting for the cocoon. Then again, it’s just the TCG so maybe it’s just doing TCG things.
Poiple would make great partnerships with Grafaiai they both make paints, they’re both poison type, yeah, they have a lot in common if it wasn’t for the fact that they are from different dimensions
Thank you for a video on the eve of the -let games' (Scarlet and Violet) release that contained no spoilers for them, for those of us trying to go in as fresh as possible.
Maybe the reason guzzlord and naganadel are a pair is because guzzlord eats a landscape for naganadel to make a nest and in return the naganadel and its poiple glue down prey for it.
I feel like Guzzlord would probably stick around with Naganadel due to the latter having the ability to stick foes in place, making Guzzlord's job easier. And maybe since Naganadel isn't as strong as the other ultra beasts (Stat wise at least), it probably benefits from being around the big powerful guy that can ward off most things that would be dangerous to Naganadel
I have an idea for why the two ultra beasts are “together”. You said that bee’s will take a dead body like a spider and implant the babies inside them. What if that’s what nagaonadel is doing. It follows Guzzlord around to the plants and after it eats away until the planet is barren Naganadel will populate the planet with its nests and proceed to turn the planet into a huge birthing ground. I mean you don’t have to worry about any predators getting to the eggs since everything is gone and what’s left is the nutrients from the ground which could be why the nest come from the from the ground to sap any nutrients for the eggs/the Naganadel. I think they are seen together because Naganadel let’s Gusslord do the hard work then monopolizes the planets left in rubble by Guzzlord. I know it’s far fetched but it’s my theory lol
I think they have alot of ideas that just don’t make it into the game since Gamefreak seems to prioritize simplicity when it comes to lore. So we see little hints of what could’ve been.
Guzzlord: Corrupt Glutton that eats everything, Destroy Poipole/Naganadel: Brings Joy to all around, Creates In conclusion: 1: Opposites Attract 2: Creation and Destruction is a fun combo of powers 3: Who cares, its fun to see such contrasting characters be best friends! I mean the other ultra combos do have a bit of weirdness to them being a combo too... Musclehead and Fashionista, Electric Wire and Bomb Clown, these do have heavy contrasts too. its just fun
Maybe Guzzlord being Dark and Naganadel being Poison have more to do with it? Like one is a toxic influence and the other is prone to violence. There's a skill in Miiverse where a person sticks a fork in another Mii's butt and they attack the enemy for extra power, so maybe it's similar here?
Naganadel is friends with Guzzlord because nobody else would hang out with a screaming black hole. Communal insect monster sees the benefit in cooperating with the most powerful thing that nothing else can tolerate. Naganadel also flies, so it's not in danger of being eaten, unlike the other known Ultra Beast.

Okay... You might actually be onto something, because just like in gen 7, eturnatus and necrozma are what causes the weird energy that reacts with Pokemon in someway, and use that energy themselves to transform
Ok but isn't eternatus canonically just an alien
Like a regular alien not a dimension alien
It's a cool headcanon though!

@@dravendarkplays9607 Could very well be
poipole's considered a starter pokemon in its home world ; what if Eternatus is a convergent / parallel counterpart to Poipole's final evolution
Naganadel for the most part is like the Blaziken/Garchomp of the Ultra beasts
It knows Poison, Dragon and fire moves.
That basically covers all its weaknesses.
it's high speed and offensive stats can melt down any target, including the types it cannot hit for 1x damage
Which is basically none.
Can't wait to see what crazy stuff we learn about Kartana and Selesteela.
“OK so like what kind of voice are you going for kind of like deep and spooky or like-“
“Oh no no no we have a much better idea for how we’re gonna do this Pokémon. So what you’re going to do is go into the booth and scream as loud as you possibly can directly into the microphone.”
“A-are you sure about tha-“
“Yes, now get in the booth.”
Lockstin, "Dragons normally hate each other."
Hermitcraft, "Dragon Bros!"
So, maybe the two Pokémon are often paired up relates to terraforming in a way. Guzzlord would destroy every within an area, while Naganadel would build in up from that to create a hive? That's the only thing that comes to mind for me personally.
Guzzlord: eldritch, world destroying monster that cares to feed
Poipole abd Naganadel: glue bees
I think guzzlord is the scariest ultra beast especially in the anime
AHHHHHH!!!!!
I think it's sad seeing as they are canonically endangered and being tricked into killing themselves off by their world humans to fix human mistakes

Can't wait to hear you explain all of the brand new Pokémon in Scarlet and Violet.
Are you gonna get a copy of it tomorrow?
Ngl I thought the video would mention the new designs, cuz some of them are definitely ugly.
Scarlet and Violet designs are... interesting in my opinion. They work but I feel like the Paldea mons are missing a bit of the flair the gen 8 mons had.
Me either
@@breezeedraws people said the same thing about Gen 8, so I'm just gonna chalk it up to "new thing scary"
@@Gloomdrake To be fair: There are ugly Pokémon in every Generation.
I even like some of the ugly ones _because_ of that.
I got a shiny Poiple immediately in Ultra Sun, and I was like “yup, a yellow jacket. This thing is a yellow jacket.”
I can never get over that Guzzlord scream. Your version is better than the anime's.
Love the connection between Zygarde and Guzzlord
So humanity crossed the line, Zygarde got angry, started eating everything
and then Zygarde got fat. the end
Unless the future scientists decided to fuse Zygarde cells with a snorlax, that works too
But Guzzlord used to be a common species in it's world (they are rare now due to a nuclear radiation due to at east one nuclear power plant meltdown and humans making them devour irradiated rubble for rebuilding purposes)
American zygarde💀
Zygarde- defends the entire existence from danger and guards life and death
Guzzlord- hungry bois gotta eat
What about Guzzlord hazmat suit guy
I always linked Guzzlord (visually) to Dusknoir: Tiny head on top, Massive Belly face, super scary designs.
I think one of Guzzlord and Zygarde’s parallels is Vishnu and Shiva. Zygarde is Vishnu, a preserver with many, progressively weaker but still legendary forms both man and beast
Guzzlord is shiva, the destroyer commonly associated with destruction of ignorance (Guzzlord makes people very aware of their danger)
I’d say Yveltal would be Shiva TBH. Which would make Xerneas the creator.
@@lextalionis-u2v op has a point though vishnu is usually depicted with 4 four arms which lo and behold Zygarde has 2 main arms and 2 cape “arms”
@@lextalionis-u2v that makes sense, definitely, but within just the context of those two Guzzlord is shiva in a parallels sense
on the Guzzlord-Zygarde theory, I wondered if maybe Guzzlord took some inspiration from cancer cells, because Zygarde is based on regular cells, and Guzzlord is incredibly dangerous, consuming whatever it comes across, like how cancer destroys the body. it would also explain Guzzlord's bloated shape, like a tumour.
The Eldrazi are ment to be eldritch beings, so it fits. And Emrakul is the most powerful of them, so...
My favorite thing about this video is the knowledge gained from the fact guzzlord is based off of a mean crab
I always drew a comparison between Guzzlord and Hydreigon:
They're both Dark/Dragon.
Normally im very afraid/disgusted by bugs but the wasp/bee discussion was very interesting for me, even though its 11 PM
Guzzlord is quad weak to fairy so having a poison type dragon buddy around could be a kind of symbiosis they've formed.
Alien alliances with similar goals and all that kinda trope.
For those who don't know the Guzlord screams that TerminalMontage uses is from the "It's Wednesday my dudes" video.
16:27
I never would’ve thought to put Stitch, The Iron Giant, and E.T. into the same category of “nice aliens that befriend a human kid.” They’re all just so different
Also two of them were literally created to be weapons of mass destruction
I think naganadel being paired with guzzlord is more of a rivals working together kinda thing, guzzlord is a villain and naganadel is a hero
Other Ultrabeast : Having cool power
Guzzlord : EAT
Naganadel's glue stops Guzzlord's food from trying to escape. Guzzlord give Naganadel, a very social pokemon, someone to socialize with.
The touch of you and your Helix mattress "smoking" a poki after, what I can assumo was "a great night of sleep" didn't go unoticed. Nice touch hehe
The Ultra Beasts could also be based off the 7 Deadly Sins (at least the original 7 can be)
Nihilego - Envy
Buzzwole - Pride
Pheromosa - Lust
Xurkitree - Greed
Kartana - Wrath
Celesteela - Sloth
Guzzlord - Gluttony
I can see it
I mean we know a guzzlord named Mr.Glutton
the footage of a large wasp nest gave me chills
Anyone realize the Paldea starters kinda resemble the other starters specifically Totodile, Torchic, and Litten? Their final forms kinda show more similarities but they are different. Are they regional variants, a coincidence, or a product of convergent evolution? Personally, I think they are related and that’s that.
They're definitely not regional variants. I think they are probably just close relatives.
I'm glad I'm not the only one to notice the Zygarde and Guzzlord thing
I think it's funny that in the Japanese version of the Pokemon anime Guzzlord's sounds are a Japanese man screaming. Just "AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-!"
I think guzzlords yellow/orange mouth lining might be referencing the accretion disks of black holes
It's just his "spirit" being reincarnated into another life that somehow meets its end via Arthur, however unfairly
The bowl of petunias being suspended 200 miles above a particularly grim planet being one of my personal favorite lives of Agrajag, also the patron at Stavro Muler Beta.
God I love Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy. Still one of the best stories I've ever heard, and the radio drama sits atop as the single best audiobook series I've EVER heard. Simply phenomenal
Really nice to see something I'm a diehard fan of get some recognition!
Giratina and Garchomp in the card game are also portrayed teaming up and they are dragon type.
4:23 I love how they're a problem species because they do what we do before we can
Possible reason for the team up is actually kind of simple(-ish?) Looking at naganadale's home world and the fact that I doubt that guzzlord is found in its home world in the game maybe, just hear me out, maybe they are from the same home world.
My biggest issue is that Poipole only has 1 evolution compared to the usual 2 you get from a starter, but hey maybe that's just the standard in ultra space.
i wonder if they paired up guzzlord with naganadel is becuase the later's poison typing compensates for guzzlord's quad weakness to fairies.
I mean, you could probably say that Naganadel is partially based on the Giant Asian Hornet, they're big and invasive
I’d suggest you look at both Guzzlord’s and Zygarde’s shiny forms. They’re strangely similar if you compare them..
It be cool to see what other starters where their if there's more than than just poipole, also to play as the recon squad in there world.
I would love to have an alternate dimension pokemon game where you start with a poipole. Just imagine a pokemon game full of aliens
Here's a classic joke to use
Yo mama so fat when she went to the pokemon world everyone shouted "Look Out! A Wild Guzzlord Appeared!"
In the brazilian region the Tarantula Hawk Wasp appears it's named "Cavalo do cão", which means "Devil's horse"
I would love to see some speculations on what the other ultra beasts starter Pokémon would be
My only guess with the card relation is that Naganadel is known for fusing things together while Guzzlord is known for tearing things apart.
Thank you for a video on the eve of the -let games' (Scarlet and Violet) release that contained no spoilers for them, for those of us trying to go in as fresh as possible.
Inkay > upside down > Malamar
Poipole > NOT upside down > STILL NOT UPSIDE DOWN?!
you are officially my favourite channel. i cought two shinies while watching your videos
Maybe the reason guzzlord and naganadel are a pair is because guzzlord eats a landscape for naganadel to make a nest and in return the naganadel and its poiple glue down prey for it.
Me just arriving to be blasted with a Zygarde = Guzzlord theory: Oh, Ok.
Zygard: protect the environment!
Guzzlord: Eat the environment!!!
I’ve never thought Guzzlord looked like Zygarde complete
Same
I think Guzzlord and Naganadel are friends just because Naga can defend Guzz from fairies due to his/her poison type.
There are many things that make me wonder if developers actually hide something or just want us to think they do.
I think they have alot of ideas that just don’t make it into the game since Gamefreak seems to prioritize simplicity when it comes to lore. So we see little hints of what could’ve been.
Some ideas that don't appear in the games might get used by the anime, I guess.

1: Opposites Attract
2: Creation and Destruction is a fun combo of powers
3: Who cares, its fun to see such contrasting characters be best friends! I mean the other ultra combos do have a bit of weirdness to them being a combo too... Musclehead and Fashionista, Electric Wire and Bomb Clown, these do have heavy contrasts too. its just fun
Naganadels brain remaining in the abdomen as it evolves is similar to how most snails organs move and rotate as they grow.
As much as I hate wasps, Naganadel is easily one of my favorite Pokémon
Don't you just love what they practically confirm something but then say sorry this NDA won't let me explicitly tell you
Naganadel is friends with Guzzlord because nobody else would hang out with a screaming black hole.
Communal insect monster sees the benefit in cooperating with the most powerful thing that nothing else can tolerate. Naganadel also flies, so it's not in danger of being eaten, unlike the other known Ultra Beast.
