It's interesting when Wander says he understands where Black Cube is coming from; Wander's never-ending optimism came from a dark place in his own life when he learned to develop positivity regardless of the circumstances. Black Cube floating merrily through the town with people screaming in terror shows Cube taking control of his own life in spite of the external circumstances. This show is really deep. I love it. ❤️
This is a cube. Just a *cube*. The plainest design possible. It doesn't even have eyes! Or any other features! ... ...Then *why* is it so adorable? How is this possible?? :O
IKR? They took a cube with absolutely no actual lines beyond "OMINOUS LATIN CHANTING", and they managed to give it a personality and make us sympathize with it.
It's kind of sad how even though the black cube of darkness is now not evil and people are still scared of it and some are making fun of it. That isn't nice of how that's happening to the black cube of darkness. Even after he tried to help that old lady, she was still scared of it.
I don't think he ever was dark in the evil sense as much as in the emotional sense. He was presumed evil by those around him, but I think that by "sucking souls," it's wordplay on how any attempt to express himself leads to emotional devastation, thus he is perhaps more mentally ill than evil.

Honestly I think the writers where going through depression when writing this episode, because it really embraces depression. The black an white, the sad song, the bad luck. It all makes sense, you know.
And don't let me forget to say that the "black cube of sunshine" scene represents how when you're depressed, you try to get out of it, and you go into this "I am a beautiful person" stage, and it usually fails (when the punk teenagers showed up to bully him).
Tbh I got so happy when Wander showed up, being the lovable character he is. I love him so much! He is adorable! He doesn't care who you are or what you did he just helps you out and can make any negative situation positive.

Like sure ppg and fosters home were classics but they both never quite got the characterization this show had. Much wider variety of character development in this show than his other two shows combined, it truly does make it something special in it's own right. It's not Wonder that makes this show great; it's quite literally every other character that does it.

He actually ranks really low on actually evil behavior compared to most villains. He sucks out people's souls, but this appears to be something he can't always control. Evil Sandwich would be my pick for most evil, likely pure evil. Dominator and Peepers after that. Dominator due to her sadistic, bored nihilism and Peepers for his corrupting influence on Hater, as well as being the one focused on bringing about the harm. I'd also rank Little Bits, Hater, Emperor Awesome, and more over him. For The Black Cube to be pure evil, it would have to be impossible to exceed his evil. And pretty much all the characters I have listed do, only a few characters like Someone the So-and-so rank lower. My theory is that the "darkness" of the Black Cube actually refers to emotional darkness rather than moral darkness. In fact, I don't think he is the embodiment of evil as much as the embodiment of mental illness. This episode hammers home so many signs and symptoms common to a variety of mental illnesses, but severe depression especially. Inability to keep his place organized, reduced ability to see colors, inability to hold down a job, the list goes on. However, WoY is a show where lots of expressions occur literally. "Soul sucking" is also a phrase used to describe feeling emotionally crushed. While in the show he can and does weaponize it, we also see that this is something that happens every time he attempts to verbalize anything at all. Again, this seems more akin to mental illness than evil. Most of all, we do see a genuine interest in improving, but it is an excruciatingly slow and laborious process with a great deal of sliding back.
