Cyberpunk 2077 Xbox One/X vs PS4/Pro Tested - Can Any Last-Gen Console Cut It?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 25 июл 2024
- We round out our console Cyberpunk tests with a look at Xbox One systems. No question, base Xbox One has the biggest mountain to climb of last-gen systems spec-wise - but how close can it get to holding 30fps? And what upgrades does Xbox One X get, beyond support for 4K TVs? Tom and Rich take a look at their delivery next to PS4 systems - plus a quick test of patch 1.04 performance.

It's not the resolutions or graphics detail or the consoles it's the developers. This game doesn't look nextgen at all even on high end pcs. As a mid level pc player who has been getting solid performance with tweaks, this puts into perspective the outrage and the unfortunate state of many players.
People keep on bitching at me about how the version I'm playing (PS4 on the Pro) is not much better than the base console version when it usually goes between 25-30fps and rarely hits lower than what the guys in the video get. I just am like '. . . Fuck! What the hell, man! At least the version I'm playing is STABLE and runs decently well with fewer issues than the base console version!' Saying that the Pro/X1X/S is not much better than the PS4/X1when it comes to being able to play Cyberpunk is like saying The Dark Knight is not much better than Batman Begins or that Revenge of the Sith isn't much better than the rest of the Star Wars prequels.

@@mrsucc2138 fyi 30fps is considered total shit
This game makes me appreciate 30fps.
30fps is the new 60! lol
A stable 30fps is always appreciated. I tried playing Jedi Fallen Order with a dynamic frame rate and was all over the place. Then swapped to lock 30fps with dynamic 4K and yeah controller response was way better. Horizon and Spider-Man all felt excellent at a lock 30.
People with mid range or old hardware should definitely consider playing at 30 and cranking settings/resolution up instead of trying in vain to hold 60 despite your game looking like a vaseline smudge.
This game is gorgeous and it NEEDS a high resolution to shine, the effects scale like shit with lower resolutions... so yeah, I recommend 30 FPS to most people that don't have 2080 Tis/3070 and up.

The Pro and X should’ve just locked to 1080p to remain consistent.
yeah. im on one x. it looks crisp but framerate stutters. i'd be fine with 1080 locked.
They forget to mention npc count is also higher on the x than ps4. The slowdowns are for higher res and more detail
Disabling some graphical settings improves the frame rate a lot. And I would rather have the same dynamic resolution but have the lower limit set at 1080p instead.
@@farisakhtar4824 dynamic resolution is great for balancing performance and quality until you’re rendering scenes at noticeably different resolutions. I personally find it much better if it’s less noticeable. They should keep the top and bottom within a certain degree. Maybe they should’ve at least used the PS4 Pro’s res target. I'm guessing the issue in the alley is related to Vik's shop getting loaded into memory. Since it's a pretty detailed indoor area it's probably not a part of the "open world" to save on memory. So when you turn rapidly into that alley there is probably a trigger to load those assets, but some component in the old systems simply can't handle streaming the open world and loading "indoor" assets at the same time so the system just hangs or performance tanks.

It’s painfully obvious that they didn’t allow console reviews to hide this so as many people can buy the broken console versions as possible.
It's pretty disgusting.
They are now accepting refund requests though. So its a come around. Thank god. Otherwise people would have definitely lost all trust. Even the PC requirements are not accurate. The recommended system which i have barely gives over 40 even on low-med preset.
I doubt 100% of people who are unhappy with their console versions will get a refund though. CDPR will probably make more profit this way than if they had warned everybody beforehand in a fair way.
@@stuporman it doesn't run any better, the console renders at a certain resolution and then downscales or upscales depending on the TV/monitor resolution
It’s also possible that they were confident that the day 1 patch would fix all of these problems and they didn’t want to show off the game without the patch (clearly it did not fix the issues.) As a consumer you should wait until the day of release to make your decision to buy the game. I don’t understand why people pre order games. But if you are one of those people that wanted to play it at midnight on release day, you can always get a refund.
In hindsight releasing this on PC first would have reduced the backlash so much.

Sounds like they should’ve limited the One X’s resolution to 1440p and just let it hit a consistent 30fps.
My thoughts exactly. Also lower res for base consoles down to 720p. I will never understand the fixation deva have with resolution to the point of thinking 1800p 20fps is better than 1440p 30fps.
Almost everywhere you see a 20-ish fps experience the CPU is the problem, no point in going lower res, only CDPR can do something...
The thing is they’re not GPU limited per se. They’re CPU limited with how the game handle crowd, asset streaming, etc. In my opinion, the only way they can fix this is by increasing (I mean by huge amount) of asset duplication which can ease a little bit the bottleneck created by 5400rpm HDD. Of course this will result in a substantial increase of a game file size (we are talking COD like size here or even bigger). This is one of the problems when you make the games with an SSD-optimised in mind.
And to further ease the streaming system especially while driving fast within these high density city they need to at least double the amount of LODs per object which is also going to substantially increase the game file size which can ease both CPU decompression time and system RAM (GDDR).
All of these extra resource can be use to handle at least an acceptable amount of crowd present on a per scene basis. If you look at this game the crowd are very dynamic on their own which means this will hurt this weak CPU logic a lot. The way to solve this is to make the dumb-crowd system like in the early 2010-ish style games, where different NPCs move in pack with a noticeable sync-move set if that make sense. And makes only few of them move dynamically (AI like).
@@soraaoixxthebluesky If they have to increase the game size to make it playable, just do it.
The game have near 50GB, even if they increased it 3 time, to something like 150GB but making the whole experience beter, i don't see any problem in that(The problem will be that the game will use way more space on the next gen machines until the proper next gen update arrives).
RDR2 have more than 100GB and it's not as beautifull on the base machines as it is on the Pro/X, but it is really playable, anyone would sacrifice Storage in benefit of a playable game.
That would make frame rate worse, the game already drops way below 1440p on One X when it struggles.
Could you please review it on Stadia? Thanks!
It feels like this game was made with SSD in mind.
It’s painfully obvious it was developed primarily for PC, and within the last stretch they shifted focus to make it playable on consoles. Unsurprisingly, their approach failed.

1:53 the game is so realistic that even the framerate is groovin in the disco
PS5 is using the BC+ mode with preset profiles operating in PS4 Pro compatibility tier; the "+" part is the backwards compatibility flag that removes the 30fps cap and inserts an unlocked refresh towards 60hz target.
You will need to re-download pretty much the entire game package next year when the native PS5 version arrives. It's a delta code path -- it's NOT a patched up extension of the current BC+ version on PS5.
So what you see now on PS5 (and Series X) is basically a placeholder backwards compatible PS4 Pro version (and One X on Series X) with minor tweaks to compatibility flags.
Dynamic elements of the engine can benefit from the BC+ extensions in terms of harnessing superior clocks -- but those aren't optimal frequency profiles, they can't employ specific next-gen GPU features, they aren't parceling out full PS5 memory, and the excellent SSD/IO is strictly providing 'passive' perks based on raw sequ. speeds -- but doesn't use any of the specialized IO co-processors or unique caching.
There's much to exploit in the proper PS5/Series X versions coming next year. The backwards compatible versions you see now will be disappearing when the native code arrives.

It could be really interesting since Richard also did test those Ryzen APU's some time ago. Target: 900p, low settings, 30 fps+ =)
Also that *Cyberpunk on Stadia review (maybe in comparison to One X (!) or even Series X perf./ quality mode)* that Rich also mentioned could be really, really "breathtaking" since many "old school" gamers sniffed their noses on cloud gaming the last years ...
Since there is that developer mode on XBox (One, Series) I wonder if there is already a possibility today to run that Stadia android app or even the XCloud App on XBox (One S) consoles!

@@licensetoshred Those babies couldn't understand that 30fps is roughly where you want it to be if you want to have a stable game in a big world.
@@ZarkowsWorld I mean it still is, it's very impressive that the game could run on that kind of hardware.
They should've had Panic Button handle the last gen versions.
Good shout, considering their work with Switch ports of the DOOM games and Wolfenstein II.
@@JuiKuen yea the games that run at sub hd and lower than the lowest pc settings lol.
@@theanimerapper6351 but they actually work, with stable 30 fps, as opposed to Cyberpunk
@@MrPedrogiorgi it's also a linear shooter which is one of the only pc games that are so ridiculously well optimized for compute that it can play in 8K ultra on modern hardware. This is a dumb comparison imo.
@@fVNzO Open-ended linear shooter mind you.
11:00 same happened to me, the ambush guys didn't even shoot!!
Something i've not seen you mention, and maybe I'm imagining it, but setting the PS5 to 1080p seemed to clear up the blurry resolution even more so alongside the turning off of Film Gain and Chromatic Aberration. Does this impact other consoles or did I imagine this?
Your work is always appreciated, however, it’s appreciated NOW, MORE THAN EVER!
Bethesda: We know you love the performance in the Corvega Factory.
CDPR: Here's a game that's nothing but that.
Bethesda is super happy with the console performance of Cyberpunk 2077...... Oh wai....
I'm curious to know if this test on the xbox one x was done with the film grain/motion blur turned off? I experienced some freezing/lockup on my xbox one x, turned off those settings, and now it seems to run pretty well.
Thanks for the video.
Cheers for doing these videos guys, many of us look to you as an authoritative voice on this!
9:58 lol jackie just stand there in the middle of the shootings
Hes walking away hes had enough of these dam pop ins
Jackie - thats it! I have enough of these mother fucker pop ins in this mother fucker game.
the police ai in this game is something else. i don't think they can actually aggro anyone but the player. Even if the terrible ai drivers run over a cop, they will get mad at you and give you a wanted level
Thinking about his next meal, no doubt
It's it's not Digital Foundry certified, Its not ready. You guys Rock
You guys should do a video on Cyberpunk on Stadia, and compare it to other consoles/PC. It is extremely impressive, and you can use the Chrome add-on, Stadia Enhanced, to show FPS, etc.
9:35 one minute freezing, is quite simply unforgivable. CDPR really deserve the backlash they got.
100% deserved.
Forza Horizon 3 players on PC: First time?
like AC odyssey?
I'm starting to feel that the Xbox One cannot be fully optimised for this game. I was hopeful before as I know miracles can happen with games being ported. Witcher 3 on switch looks phenomenal now, nobody ever expected that.
@Pixel Domination says the kid
PS360 Shadow of Mordor: "First time?"
Wtf ps360?
Y guess he means PS/360
@@AlbelSkeith I think he means PS3/360. you know 3 is common number so it just got sliced
@@laughingstar3945 Portmanteau of PS3 and Xbox 360 which people used to call the last gen consoles.
Switch time
@Digital Foundry Will you be checking out MXGP 2020 and Monster Energy Supercross 4 ?
looking forward to the switch port! ;)
DRINKING GAME: Down your drink every time one of the team says 'bespoke'
I tried that during John and Alex’s videos with ‘ray tracing’. Needless to say, I had a hangover for days after.
CDPR should've been more transparent about the console performance.
They didn’t because people would have cancelled their pre orders and they wanted to grab their money before it came out how bad the game runs.
@@davidclixby5840 Yeah but expected more out of them. Now people are losing faith which is more valuable than pre-order money.
In my opinion this is their only real fault at the moment. If they were transparent, it would look a lot better from gamers perspective.
@@Eihei Totally Agreed
They deserve the hate tbh. There is only so high and so much your company can be praised u till you fuck up, bad. Even if it happened with a totally new game for them I am happy. They deserve the hate both the devs and the executives but I don't wish them any harm like other apes on the Internet have done. Let's hope they manage to not fix but at least help the situation.
Hey guys! I'm brazilian, I follow the channel for a long time and I love your work. But I 'd like to ask you one thing: Could you enable automatic subtitles in your videos, please??? Sometimes it's hard to follow / understand because of the accent, I'm not very good with accents. Thanks.
How about a test of the ps4 pro and oneX if you have an external ssd ? Just a curious thought. I just got a 2TB T7 and wonder if I could enjoy this on my ps4 pro. I'll probably still wait for a patch or two.
People could go pick up and play through the entirety of Deus Ex Mankind Divided by the time a texture loads in CP2077
Deus Ex is cursed for all eternity to being the superior cyberpunk experience.
U guys take shit talking to a new level i see
Exactly the game I bought instead of Cyberpunk 2077 this month. Cheers!
Deus Ex>Cloudpunk>Cyberpunk
If you like the immersive sim, great level design, slowpace, political and conspiracy, deus ex is for you.
While the Cyberpunk 2077 gameplay mechanics feel outdated, many things are not well thought and many issues we already known, good things is the writing, great character, the story are more personal, depressing than the commercial make its look.
I’d love to see Stadia vs GeForce NOW. Here’s hoping.
Maybe it's just me, but I've had a very exciting and enjoyable experience on the One X. No freezing or crashing. Minor bugs, but I'm none worth griping about
The same here
Same!! Playing since yesterday on my one X and so far so good
Had some NPCs run across a highway, but otherwise it was shockingly good for me, esp compared to this video. Was kind of bummed, wanted the game to be a bit more broken.
I know you guys are busy with the Cyberpunk videos but the Doom Eternal switch port is def worth looking into! I want to know what black magic made that port possible.
