Great review! I had a Sentry at one point but decided to get the Big Muff Deluxe because I needed a fuzz pedal and the deluxe version has a built in noise gate. @@DerekPaulGuitar Mine arrived today and I immediately tested it. It even silences a cheap wireless system that I used as a patch cable between the Noise Gate & the Distortion pedals. This unit is basic for features, but adequately effective none the less. The red LED light is red & stays red when the NG is on as enabled or off for the True Bypass. With the TC Electronic Sentry, I think that NG pedal, the light goes from red to green as the Threshold is reached and the guitar is played. So that feature seems to assist in dialing the NG pedal threshold and when the damp & decay control aspect of the Noise Gate opens & closes. Anyway, I'd definitely recommend this pedal for solid basic operation in a NG pedal. It's not really a sexy pedal for being an effect sound, but it just quiets down noise interference in the chain of pedals and that's sexy when a quiet amp at idle is the goal. It's like having an instant on & off muzzle for unwanted noise as it's amp effect. Now I can drive the amp at higher volume and not have to listen to hissy white noise when the guitar isn't playing. That was a good demo of the effect this pedal has on the signal. it was particularly apt that you used it on the Biyang Fuzz box, an unruly pedal that doesn't play well with others if there ever was one. I have seen the Donner in action and it works as well as the Rowin albeit for around $90 if I remember correctly.

@@jimcamp2423 Thats a cool feature to have the light change once the threshold is reached on the Sentry, you're right it isn't the sexiest of pedals, but for the enthusiast like me and people who want to either experience noise gates or who are on a budget then after using this for about 2 weeks i am really pleased with it, it does its job well on my fuzz pedal (that's all i'll use it for as i don't really use high gain that much, i'm an overdrive guy, thanks Jim, stay safe my friend
This is a real good job
Thank you!
That was a good demo of the effect this pedal has on the signal. it was particularly apt that you used it on the Biyang Fuzz box, an unruly pedal that doesn't play well with others if there ever was one. I love the sound of that pedal by itself in front of one or two of my amps but I had already come to the conclusion that a noise gate was the next step and was looking at the Joyo and Donner models. I have seen the Donner in action and it works as well as the Rowin albeit for around $90 if I remember correctly.
Brad Laue cheers my friend, the Biyang fuzz was perfect for this demo as you say, I’d recommend the rowin one as it worked perfectly after my noise pedals and I only recommend stuff that I use everyday :)) Cheers Brad
Derek Paul Guitar I’m slowly building up my ‘Derek’ pedal board and find myself plugging it into my amps more than my old board. There’s proof right there you are doing something right. Cheers, mate.
Btad Laue be good to see the ‘Derek’ pedal board once it’s done :)) and thanks Brad, i guess I’m just experimenting with what I like :))
Where should a noise gate pedal go in your pedal order? Before or after Distortion pedals?
Edit: Little old me should have waited until finishing the video.
No worries! And thanks for watching
Hardly any difference? On a low setting the tone persisted for 10 seconds, on the higher setting about 8.5 seconds.
It does also cut off some of the noise left behind on the sustain, and is fully adjustable, so much so that’ll it’ll kill the sustain if that’s the effect you want, cheers!
But it shortens or cut off the sustain
Not if you dial it in right. So many musicians in heavy metal bands use them...as do i
Haha how did you do that green screen trick? Great vid! About to buy one of these by Stax, which I’m guessing is the same guts as the Rowin one.
Haha thanks! I’m imaging they are all the same guts in there
so it's like a squelch on an old cb then?
Pretty much, it’s very similar!
I might be dumb for this but I like noise xD mostly because I play only Hendrix and he has a nice yet noises tone
Not at all, if noise is your thing it’s your thing 🤘
Great review. I have this (new)...any idea why when it's ON it makes the tone noticeably brighter and when I turn it OFF it dulls it?
Cheers for the kind words, Hmmm I’m not sure about that, mine doesn’t do it, , maybe contact Rowin? I find them really helpful, Cheers
Probably because when it's turned on, it acts as a buffer, reintroducing some tone back into your signal chain
Hi! Can I use it with any other multi effect pedals like Amoon Pockrock? TIA…🙏🙏
That’s a good question and I don’t see why not, cheers!
Is there a pedal that can give this man a glass of water, gr8t video still
Haha thanks!
Very nice and educational vid :D
Thanks my friend! i appreciate that, stay well!
The green and purple one was $24 aud on Amazon almost to cheap
I just can't get that backround noise to go away even with a noise gate I myself use the noise killer by donner
I haven’t tried the noise killer but if it’s any way decent it should kill the noisiest of pedals or guitars, unless the noise is from the amp itself?
@@DerekPaulGuitar after some research and testing I'm more inclined to say that its from the amp itself bc the pedal would kill any guitar noise but the hum would still remain. Making me think I should buy one of those hum x socket purifier things.
@@jacobwooten5137 Sounds like an amp issue, hmm thiose x hum things havent worked for me, do some good research on it :)
@@DerekPaulGuitar yeah currently researchin them
@@jacobwooten5137 be interesting to know how you get on and it it all works out 👍
Is there a stereo IO version of this pedal under $100?
After googling ( i was curious myself) i still couldn't come up with a conclusive answer
Hi buddy...would it work for bass guitar as well? I use a sansamp at the end of the chain as a powerfull tool for sending my signal in paralell to the main PA and my amp. Audio tech guys usually hate me because of the noise 🤣
Hey bud, yes it’ll work for the bass signal too 👍 got to please those tech guys :)
@@DerekPaulGuitar haha thanks bud
What's the brand of that doubler pedal?
Did you mean the double sized pedal on the bottom right?
I just bought that Noise gate but it acts like a volume knob.. it cuts feedback but it lowers the volume
Leave it on and turn up the volume and you notice the volume cut
I'll buy later
Hi Derek! Nice video! Its very insightful :)
Though I just want to ask.. what would be the best remedy for intense buzzing. Ive checked on my power supply but everything seems to be fine
Thanks! Things to look out for would be the shielding on the guitar (copper tape in the pickup cavities works great) and maybe swap out the patch cables to see if one of those could be buzzing, cheers :)
@@DerekPaulGuitar awesome! Thanks a lot will try this one later :)
@@manensmrke2459 hope it works out :)
Any other decent budget noise gates out there? Cheers guys
David Westhoff I disagree, this is a good little pedal even for the money, it does a great job for the enthusiast, not for professional use of course but that’s a given at this price, cheers for the comment David
Check out Donner noise killer
The Behringer NR300!! I had it some years ago and got awesome results, even tho I wasn't using the loop function! I ordered both the Rowin and the Behringer...can't wait to try them!
will that do just to kill the hum from pickups ? basguitar badly shielded
Hi Karl, it’s really not ideal and not the way to go, have you tried shielding the guitar with copper tape or something like that? I go through this on my telecaster build part 2 :) cheers
Anybody have experience with this and a Gibson 160E?
Where do you put this in your chain
As i said in the video, wherever the noise is, just before fuzz or distortion :)
your voice is sooooo soooothing 🤤😴
Haha thanks Kevin, watch me before bedtime 👍
is that digital or analog
It’s a digital unit
Does the pedal help with unwanted string noise and string muting?
Le Talentless Cult hi, thanks for the comment, it won’t help with unwanted string noise or string muting, unless you had the threshold set extreme but it’s not really designed for that, in short it won’t, cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar thanks I've just been having trouble keeping smy strings muted whilst trying to learn how to start soloing
It’s a tricky thing to train your right hand to dampen the strings you don’t play but with practice you’ll get there man, cheers
Fretwraps my fren
Thank you!
can i use it with boss me-80?
I don't see why not :) cheers!
@@DerekPaulGuitar thanks. it's a lame question sorry but what i wanted to know is it's my first pedal. i always used multieffects. so i have to buy the power supplies for it right? can u suggest one?
@@PrantikNath Not lame at all, if you don't know you don't know :) any 9v pedal power supply will do (for a pedal board you'd need a pedal power supply block ideally) but for one pedal it'll cost you less than $10, Sweetwater has this for $10, D'Addario YS12-090050U cheers
@@DerekPaulGuitar thanks! But if I want to use 3-4 more pedal in future in that case what should I buy? so that i don't have to change it if I buy some more pedals which i will do eventually.
@@PrantikNath hi, then you’re looking at something like this Truetone 1 SPOT PRO CS7 7, plenty of them out there, and you can also mount it on a pedal board :) cheers
holy fuck this mans voice is like a cloud of marshmallows
haha if this isn't the best comment ever i don't know what is! cheers!

100% the best comment I’ve received this year!! Superb... 😁👍 happy new year to you and an amazing 2021
£12 on Temu inc P&P 👍
Have this pedal sitting in my board right now to keep my fx loop quiet, and boy let me tell you. It works better than an NDA given to the family of a prostitute that was slain by a politician. Keeps her reaalll quiet. 7/10 ease of use but I wish you could do the 4 cable method like other noise reducer pedals
Nat Geo music gear edition.
That’s it! I’m going to have to be less laid back haha, so many people have said it
lol hahaha
You stole piers Morgan's voice I see
Haha! I did return it to Piers after the video 👍
