  • How to make a Powerblock stand
    You will need:
1- Adjustable Height Heavy Duty Workstation. (U.S. General - Item#46725 from Harbor Freight, under 30 dollars).
    1_ wood 2"X4" 16-1/4" long
    1_1-1/2" x 50" Plain Steel Angle 1/8" Thick. Cut 3 pcs.
·1 at 17-1/2" Long For Top
·1 at 15-1/4" Long For Bottom Front
·1 at 15" Long For Bottom Back
    9"X34" wide skateboard grip paper
    ·2 pcs cut to 16-1/2" (Ebay 5 to 8 dollars for a 9"X 34" roll)
4_ Machine Screws 1-4"-20X1-1/2" Flat Head Phillips with nuts.
    Start
    1. Cut the top that comes with stand down to 17-1/2" X 16-1/2" (cut rounded corners off). Save the large pcs of scrap for later.
    2. Using a router. Make a channel on top of the front edge (the longest side) of the board so that the 17-1/2" PCS of angle iron will set flush with top and the front edge.
    3. Center the bottom front 15-1/4" angle iron about 3/8" from front edge of board. Drill 2 holes through the 2 pcs of angle iron and the top, countersink the top angle iron and bolt together.
On the 15" pcs angle iron drill 1 hole on each about 2" from the end to be able to attach the bottom back to the stand later.
    4. Drill 4 - 1-1/2" holes in the 2X4. The first hole should be about 2" from the front. (when placing the front hole do not place on top of bottom angle iron). Drill the other 3 holes 1-1/2 apart from each other.
    5. Center the 2X4 on the top and mark the four holes then drill the holes through the top. Now glue and screw the 2X4 to the top with some drywall screws from the bottom. (Screw should be flush).
6.Using the scrap pcs of wood that was cut off of the top. Glue and screw this pcs of wood over the holes from the bottom. Make sure the screws go into the 2X4.
    7. Spay paint the front angle iron, 2X4 and the back edge with some black flat paint.
    8. Attach the top to the stand making sure the bottom front angle iron is as far as it can go onto top front legs of the stand. Trim the outside top of the back extensions so the top can rest on the flat back edge of the extension. Slide the 15" pcs angle iron in between the top and the top of the extension, with the holes facing the top and facing the front. Mark the 2 holes on the bottom of the wood. Drill and countersink the screw on the top and bolt together.
    9. Mark and drill small holes in the angle iron to attach the top to the stand. The holes are already in the front and the back extensions of the stand. Using small nuts and bolts bolt together. Only snug these to hold the top.
    10. Fill and level the 4 countersunk screw with some kind wood filler. If the screws in the angle iron are not level. Grand them level. Apply skateboard grip paper wrapping around the sides trimming under bottom if needed.
    Enjoy!
I would like to thank Fred Kinney for sharing the stand he made on RUclips. That is ware I got the idea to make my stand.

It looks like it was a fun project. You did quite a good job on it. With the Powerblock stickers on it it looks like it came straight from the factory. Actually when I first clicked on the video I thought it was just a different version of Powerblock stand that I had never seen before. Thanks for making the video it was interesting to watch.

Wow Mr. Cooper great build. I am going to follow your lead instead of my initial thoughts which involved learning how to create sloping crossing table legs; which after watching a couple RUclipsr video on; decided with my tinkering abilities, that it would involve to many do overs. So I then grand idea occurred to me that probably many others thought to make their own DIY stand and looked for Power Block DIY’s on RUclips which lead me to come across Mr. Kinney’s stand and that was more within my abilities. Yours although farther down the list is even better and much easier to accomplish. With your well done video and directions I will have a sweet Power Block stand similar to yours shortly. Thanks for sharing.

Great stand! PowerBlock also sells just the official top, with adder weight holes, angles, and the black non-skid paper, for $37 plus $11 shipping. It's made to sit on the floor and can be seen on their official Stands video on youtube, and it can be seen on their official PDF brochure through their website. Might save some of us two-thumbs builders from having to build the top, angle iron, etc. We can just plop than on the HF base, screw it in, and boom, still only about $80 overall. Thanks for a great video, Clifford. You have the skills to build the whole thing. Love the printed label idea!

Oh, I wanted to share that with Urethane sets (not yours, Clifford), the front lip of the slanted rack even from factory can cut the urethane. Ouch! So, be careful as lifetime warranty does not cover the urethane. I use two flat weight lifting bench, about $40 new each, to store mine--when working out I can separate them and walk between them to lift the weights, one in each hand. Great for heavy --#100+-- weights. Works great, perfect height, padded, no lip. :-) Many workshop table options too, when cut down to proper height. And Ab Benches (short sit-up benches) can be bought at two for $80 and can move to walk between to pick up weights. Other options for those less handy than Clifford.

At 5:45 where yo state that you do not want to tighten to much to not bend the frame, you can put washers between the frame and the angled piece and give it support to be able to tighten a little.

Ok so I made my stand and it has been working great. I never added wheels to it because I dont move it around that much... but after years of use I wanted to add a modification and see if you had any ideas. Since the current stand is so sturdy with a 1000lb capacity, i wanted to add bars to make a dip station/weight stand combo. Any suggestions?

NIce stand! How hard would it be to put some lockable casters on it? I live in an apartment and it'd be nice to just roll the powerblock stand out of the coat closet, hit the locks with your foot and your set to workout. Then roll it back away when you're done.

  • @mpbrown18

Thanks for the idea, I did something very similar. I built the stand with all the original pieces and set it to lean forward just like you did. I painted the press board black, then I covered the top with rubber safety tread strips from harbor freight. In place of the angle iron I just screwed an 18 inch magnet strip (from harbor freight) towards the bottom of the stand. I don't have adder weights so no center piece. The magnet & safety strips work pretty well at holding the weights in place and everything was less than $50 since I had a 20% off coupon for the stand. Thanks again Clifford!
