Allen was a great showman producer. Even when directing, he remained a showman producer first and foremost. I was involved with movie theatres when both the original Poseidon and this sequel were released. The first time around, the theatre was packed on opening night. It was a true "all-star-cast" blockbuster, and audiences loved it. I saw it in the theatre many times. By the time the sequel arrived, the disaster film had largely become a subject of parody, much like many of the social phenemena of the 70s, such as Pet Rocks and disco. Except Irwin Allen didn't know it. After shelving plans for a Towering Inferno sequel, he bombed in 1978 with The Swarm. By 78, the disaster blockbuster had run its course. There were about a dozen people in a threatre of 365 seats on the first Friday evening showing of the The Swarm. And the second was no better. It was a bomb on its opening night, and many theatres still had six weeks contracted to play the turkey. A year later, theatre owners were less convinced to sign big contracts for Beyond the P O. I don't know what the studio expectations were for it, but I don't think exhibitors expected much. And they were not disappointed; box office was pretty much on par with the mostly awful reviews. By 1980, Allen's slate of blockbusters was looking very stale, and yet some big stars (including Steve McQueen) still had one or more pictures with Allen remaining on their contracts. Unstopped, however, by his irrepressible showman's determination, he raised his biggest budget ever, $20 million, for what would become not only his third major flop, but also his last theatrical film, When Time Ran Out. Earning a total of under $4 million, Irwin Allen's obsession with a genre that was far past its prime became his own personal disaster for the Master of Disaster.
This 20 minute featurette is far more entertaining than the dog of a movie it's trying to promote. "Beyond the Poseidon Adventure" Is basically unwatchable

I really hate this sequel. how are there survivors? Everyone at the bow most likely died, not to mention the ballroom and upper decks after the liner capsized? I can get onboard (no pun) with the salvage villain trope or whatever but I can’t deal with the hate at the beginning lover at the end situation between “monkey” and the captain

I really enjoyed it personally. It's not got the same magic as the original but at least they didn't add the escaped tiger from the book 'Beyond the Poseidon Adventure' haha!
I love Angela Cartwright for her role here; almost as much as how she was for her role in Irwin Allen's first production and creation she was in, Lost In Space as Penny Robinson. As well as liking the other cast roles that did team Salvage team (Michael Caine as Captain Mike Turner, Karl Malden as Wilbur Hubbard, and Sally Field as Celeste Whitman), other Poseidon passengers (Peter Boyle as Frank Mazzetti, Jack Warden as Harold Meredith, Shirley Knight as Hannah Meredith, and Veronica Hamel as Suzanne Constantine), and Poseidon crew (Shirley Jones as Nurse Gina Rowe, Slim Pickens as Dewey "Tex" Hopkins, and Mark Harmon as Elevator Operator Larry Simpson). It's good to see for those characters all having consideration and concur in helping the others get out of the capsizes ship. Interesting hearing the cast talk about having to scuba dive with buddy breathing. It would be better if they could've shown more them having to scuba diving, know how challenging it was for them doing it, and how they liked it.
I always feel sorry for Angela Cartwrights character in this film when she sees and hears her father Peter Boyle screaming as he is riddled with bullets and my grandmother was upset at that scene because she found Peter Boyle to be very handsome I was only young at the time but Angela played a good part and it did upset me seeing her in tears afterwards.
I never realized until a few years ago that this movie was made I was so excited I wanted to see more of the inside of the ship.... so I rented it out.... It was pretty horrible. Not even the same ship

The sequel had the look and feeling of a made for TV movie.

sucky movie
stick with the first one
good film . but the first one was the best . yes guys ?
Yes. I didn't like this one.
I didn't even know this movie does exist.
I just knew the Poseidon adventure, that is a masterpiece of disasters movies
Because director Ronald Neame was so talented at handling the first film.
Neither did anyone else .... it was a bomb. One of worst flops in movie history -

I really wish they’d followed the book with Rogo, Martin and Manny coming back. They could have left the tiger and volcano out though
That tiger in the book was utterly ridiculous :D

The impossible task of filming an upside down ship, Underwater. Which just so happens to be sets built on a sound stage.
I work in the industry! Irwin's not fooling me. As much as I love his films. And I do. I am a bigger fan of Towering I
The actors do not sound enthusiastic about there roles.
Especially Michael Caine

the white block line Yeah it went under in the end.
I always wanted to write a good remake of this story. All time favorite movie and the 2006 remake was SHIT!
They could just rename Goliath Awaits as Poseidon Adventure 3 😅
Irwin Allen playing up to the camera, trying to portray the image of being a big shot film director.
This is so cool. Thanks for uploading this.

I hated it. So did my late girlfriend !!!
Horrible movie that should never been made

While I give Allen credit for attempting a sequel, it's pretty dismal.
I had absolutely no idea that Sir Michael Cain was in this movie and it completely changes my view of it.
His performance was awful... as a teen I knew it then, and still today.
There is nothing Sir about him... and this film was dog crap
Now, I never said that I thought the movie was good, I just said that my view was changed because I now know he was in it.
This was a total flop barley making back 20% of its budget of @20 million
Easily one of the worst movies Allen ever made. Directing movies himself was a big mistake. He had zero talent for it.
Hate the original due to bully shelley...love sequel..amazing reverse sets
