The last pieces of dialogue from Algren are amazing. First the "I will miss our conversations" then answering the Emperor "I will tell you how he lived."
Earlier in the movie Kotsimoto (as the warrior poet) says (paraphrasing) people spend their entire lives trying to find the perfect cherry blossom. So when he dies and he sees them, he says they are ALL perfect. Wonders of nature. It’s a profound realization he comes to as a warrior poet in that moment that so many miss or misunderstand imo.
It was the same type of thing with Brad Pitt when he starred in the movie "The Mexican", most didn't realized that "The Mexican" was the pistol, not a person.
I saw this movie six times when it was in theaters at the time it came out this scene shook the concrete floor at my theater with the subs it was awesome it's one of my favorite ways to test out on a new stereo system to see if it can handle the bass 😊 This movie is freaking a masterpiece Tom and Ken wanabi the throw up the performance in this movie

There was a joke going around a few years back about Tom Cruise starring as "the Last Samurai" and Brad Pitt as "The Mexican" and it was funny if you didn't realize that Tom didn't play the role of the Last Samurai and "The Mexican" was a pistol, not a person.
That's because people see a title and automatically believe it refers to the top billed actor in said film. They judge the book by it's cover and never bother to find out it's actual contents
Dude, you’ve been putting up great react compilation clips. Consider the scene after this when he offers his life to the emperor so we can see the fat guy get his comeuppance.
I have lived in Asia in several different countries over the past two decades and still do to this day and I have seen not a single negative thing towards the Japanese in any of them. Can't say the same thing about the Chinese, though. For perspective though, a group of Japanese will que up with no issue and no one giving direction to do so when waiting for something where as a group of 10 Chinese will push, shove and fight for the front of the line for a bus that has 30 empty seats...
When you trying to make a political statement, the last thing that a "rebel" has to gift to his followers is the unending reason of never forgetting, you give up your life and become immortalized as a martyr. Such was the case in the Emperor when he said he will never forget and make sure his people will never forget Katsumoto's sacrifice. People (some) who watch this dont even realize this fact, they only see the obvious....seeing dumb samurai going against a gatling gun, why they dont surrender, or what a waste of human lives.
lol not a fan? That's the skinny guy with glasses who's very very childish? My least favorite is Natalie. She needs a better mic - hers makes her sound so high pitched it hurts my ears.
Sometimes I wonder if Tom Cruise has been black listed by the Hollywood elites. Master and Commander was a mediocre movie and captured so many more Oscar’s than this amazing film.
Women really have no clue about how men works....They bowed in the end because they recognized their bravery and soldier honor, not because they changed side or changed their way of thinking about the whole thing. We men know what it takes to be in a combat...and even when we're enemies on the battlefield we are capable of this empathy and acknowledgement about our enemy valor.
It's the people of Japan bowing to the men who protected Japan for thousands of years. Saying "your time has passed, thank you". It's the most Japanese thing I've ever seen from a non Japanese film

So the title is misunderstood by many Americans, The Last Samurai is meant to be either for Katsumoto or his clan as a whole, not Nathan Algren.
Right, because Samurai is technically both singular and plural, correct?

Really? You seem to be making a strange assumption that people don’t understand the movie. Of course Katsumoto is the Last Samurai.
@@Syzygy77still a few who claim algren is the last samurai because of that final shot of him returning to taka after the meeting with the emperor

i always wonder about the reactions of other asians (who aren't japanese) to japanese themed movies and shows given the history and all. 😄
