- Showing the progression from basic turns to slides and donuts on an adventure bike.
Follow me on Instagram for some more content - @onmygs111
1 - First time and new riders riding off road, usually nervous, sitting down and feet on the ground and over cautious, resulting in a few stalls during the maneuver
2 - Sitting down and dabbing one foot when they feel the bike leans too much
3 - Sitting down and relatively confident doing so
4 - Standing up and dabbing their foot when they feel a little unstable
5 - Standing through the turn, no dabbing
6 - How to learn spin turns, step 1 - doing two 90° spin turns
7 - Progressing from step 5 to do 180° spin turns
8 - The 90° brake slide to a stop, followed by a 90° spin turn
9 - The elephant turn - the same as step 7 but a seamless transition from brake slide to spin turn
10 - Elephant turn on the pegs, no dabbing, fine throttle control
11 - Moto donuts - 270°
12 - Sliding slalom and a rolling dismount
You forgot my version which is like #1 except before the first stall I drop the bike and crush my hand with the clutch lever and pin my leg under the engine guard, accidentally lock the throttle and have the bike violently do about six revolutions horizontally which doesn't help because in the end I'm still facing the same direction.
wow that sounds full on! hope you were able to get up and keep going
Ok. I think I'm still on step 0.5
😏
ikr, hate it when my bike fall and explode before I pick it up and have to stole another one ;
Ugh sir lol
that was both funny and painful to read. i am still in the phase of disconnecting the rear abs of my africa twin to be able to block the wheel and slide a few meters....so, step 0.1 i think
Nice skills! Now you gotta go it all turning right 🤔
In England and Indonesia, it's necessary
Bro just reverse the video. It will go right.✌🏼
Yes!
He can only turn Left like Zoolander
It can seem a joke, but you are correct, as when turning right you can not paddle and cover the brake pedal at the same time, some of the drills showed in the video are actually impossible turning right, you have to learn directly the more advanced version where both the feet remain on the peg.
Now the real question is, how did he turn around behind the camera?
There were 14 riders standing ready, so no turns behind the cam.
@@JohannesDalenMC underrate comment
Exactly, what was the most comfortable yet most secure way of turning around each time FOR HIM. I guess that he did a sitting turn no leg drop, slow and steady, no dust and no unnecessary chances. But who knows, he could have did a 180 on his front tire.
0, 180 & 90 turn
He just kept moving the camera
My mind : "You can do it"
My Brain : "Don't even think about it "
😆😂🤣
My bike: "Ffs, he tried it. Now pick me up please"
My cruiser bike refuses to start when I am thinking about it.
First you gotta find a perfectly graded gravel road like that. I've never seen gravel so groomed! ;-)
True, great to learn on then transfer the skills to riding when out bush
small loose stones (2-3cm gravel) are also very good for this and predictable
Come to Kansas
Great skills there mate! The tight elephant was beautiful. I need to nail that one.
Cheers man.
lean your body outward, youll be surprised how much more you can push that way and not fall
the best tutorial ever.. no talk just action.. straight foward..got to nail those elephant turn
I wait until I find a gas station for turning back
I used to do the brake slide everytime on my old scooter, made me feel like a movie protagonist
I have to admit, beautiful presentation ! Really impressed.
Still not tired of rewatching this video :D
could be the best moto video I've ever seen.
Thanks Dave.
@@terbo_111 really tho - the progression of the skills is so accurate, and the fun part of the end is such a great reward for putting in the work. Thanks for the inspiration and motivation!
Summer Riders: "u-turning a bike in a tight radius is impossible"
ADV Boiz™: "hold my sweet all-weather riding pants😤😤"
What?
@@ohanaross-roberts97 What are you confused about
That was very good and fun to watch. I'm still between 1 and 2 haha. Lots to learn!
+ 1 🖐️
I'm not all of these...yet. I love that you stalled twice in the beginning for realism. 😁
Hey man, great video! Seeing the progression is helpful. It would be great to see more vids on how to go about learning this and other offroad skills.
Always remember in order to succeed in these be prepared to drop your bike over and over. I started on grass in a field so when it fell I knew neither the bike nor I would be seriously hurt. Just my ego because I still can't do the elephant turn 🤣 Great fun trying though. Great video👍
i went from 5 years of trials riding and never being on an adv bike straight to number 6 very happy about that
What a truly beautiful bike that T7 is!!
Spectacular...Shaun what a Skill ride....When I was a kid ( i,m 56 ) I spent months doing these exercises ... the eight, the elephant's ear, the pendulum .... I have to buy myself a Tenerè, really nice bike....Greetings and Ciao from Nortwest Italy.
OMG! You're the Goat! I gotta learn these turns
Dude I hit the sickest elephant turn yesterday on my klr650. Making these big bikes slide around is soo fun and it looks crazy to others🤣
I’m a road bike user and never taken a trail ride in my life but after watching this video it seriously makes me contemplate what my next motorcycle should be...
(I originally wanted a Yamaha XSR700)
I have a Yamaha xsr700. It's amazing! But I also have an xt250 for the dirt. If you have the space that's what I recommend. Those two bikes combined are still cheaper than an adventure bike and they're more purpose built
The range of skills this rider has....why ain't more views?
I think its my destiny to have a tenere one day, they look so fucking amazing and perform perfectly. You are a very lucky man, give her a rev for me please :)
Im on the edge too.. Ktm890r adventure is a bike I will prefer tho.
Yep but for now it's the Royal Enfield himalayan
Got myself one as my first bike. Loving it though the weight is something hard to manage at times
one of the best video i can find
Hey, well executed! You forgot no hands.😂
What no stoppie with a 180 degree turn? Seriously, this vid tells the story well. Well done.
😂 Thank you 🤙🏼🙌😎
@@terbo_111 Wait, any relation to Pierre Terblanche? I loved my Ducati 999.
@@bedmac2 nope no relation there.
@@terbo_111 OK thanks!
im impressed you could gain that much skill in less than half an hour!
Great progression demos. Worth watching. Saved for good. Thx.
Very cool adventure bike
Ah, Western Australia, I surprised that Five Star Yamaha didn't fit a set of crash bars, before letting that demo out.
Thanks for the class. Nice tips. Strong hug from Brazil.
Cheers 🤙🏼
hehe it's fun to watch this. From being a noob to getting more and more better.
I'm still not as experienced to do the complete elephant on pegs. But now I know what to practice on for next season! 😉
Thanks for the video Shaun! 👍
//Dark Visor Motovlog 🇸🇪
Do you apply the front brake too when doing the spinning turns on the pegs? I always feel like i pick up too much speed and start to run wide
You don't have to apply front brake for an spin turn on the pegs, but if you can manage everything that's happening and add a little front brake after the transition, it will certainly give you a little more control.
@@terbo_111 thanks, appreciate the video.
ikr, this is so accurate I can always tell how someone is experienced based on how they turn 😂👌
cheers
Nice, I like this, gives a idea of where I can go and shows me how to get there. Thanks man. Currently at stage 5.
Excuse me sir. You can stop making me jealous now. I appreciate it 🤣
🤣😂
I really need to find a road like this :D
Go to Australia, vast landscape and hot climate
This is awesome comparisons
That slide was sooo cool
Cheers
I dont know why but bikes just look so cool going sideways.
Totally agree!! Ha ha
I’ve been working on that for quite some time, but I’m getting better.
Thanks for the video though!
Good, I still keep practicing when I can, to make sure I get them smoother and more precise
I am so bad and you make this look so easy lol
Cool vid mate🤟🏼 informative and pretty accurate versions of what I’ve witnessed on a large group ride except you left out the one where you stop, dismount with stand down then pushing it 3 point turn and then stand down and remount like a horse and off you go.(seriously have watched someone do that on a group ride. 🤷♂️🤦♂️)
Elephant turn looked the funnest
This was surprisingly informative and funny, well played with the stalls
3 minutes of peaceful content
Oooh, nice thanks for the tuto, next step is to get an adv because I’m not doing this on my XJ6 Diversion lol!
Im use to dirt bikes.. its handling the extra weight . Im accustom to 140kg duelsport. Might take a little while to get use to the extra momentum.
Nice skills!
Thanks
From step 6: did You hold a little front brake or just lean the bike and open a throttle? Is it so easy also on an asphalt with normal road tires? TC is off I assume
Hi Tomasz, no I don't use the front brake after coming to a stop. Lean the bike, add throttle then drop the clutch.
Would definitely be harder on asphalt due to traction levels
The T7 doesn't have TC, but yes, on bikes that do have TC you would turn it off.
Excellent skills
Most adventure riders are road travellers who lack any off road skill. Nice vid.
Elephant turn was smooth
Very well done demonstration. Thanks a lot
Amazing skills
I've been dreaming about this bike ever single night since I saw her for the first time.
That makes me smile👍
Solid turns! Gotta add the pivot turn now😅
Heavy bike + road biased tyres + loose gravel = easy drifting fun!
Paddle walking such a tall bike isn’t a possibility in my case🥲
this is so satisfying to watch with stereo headphones
Are these turns exclusive to adv bikes or could I practice these on a sport bike?
Your tires wouldn’t enjoy that though... :/
Surfaces matter
not about about sport, by my TDM 850 on street tires was easier to power slide than big adv bikes 😂
It took me a minute to see the WA plate. Nice work.
Genial zusammengefasst. Danke!
The newbie is so fucking relatable I'm offended and honored at the same time. 🤣🔥
😆😂🤙
Number 10 is sick
This is impressive. I will study it on my own and share it. Thanks men
👏👏👏 great video! i want to see the bloopers now
What about right turn?
Nice demonstration, in my city the gravel is stick to the ground, if you try the bike will go like a rocket on the first stone under the wheel 😅
i feel personally attacked by the paddle walk
nicely shit and edited my dude.I shall share this with my ADV buddies that are plucking up the courage.
Nice skill👍👍 ,especially the 10th 😎
Beautiful bike. What is it? Love the sound.
what gear are you in for the slides? do you feather the clutch? show us big power slides next.th anks
Just got the license 2 days ago... I'm staying woth 3 and 5 right now :D
This is inspirational, I my new to dual sport and I am a paddle walker and dabber depending on the conditions. 😂
thanks for sharing, i just knew that there's lot of technique can be done
Is this all done with or without the use of front brake? If the front brake is used is it being dabbed? or just a soft pull? for the elephant turn I would love some in-depth commentary on how its done.
Practice indeed pays off. Nice display of useful skills.
I do the elephant turn but im a little rusty. It looks great when you do it👌🏻👌🏻
Thanks Tiaan 🤙🏼🙌😎
I enjoyed this movie with coffee ☕
Do you use your front brake in the beginning when throttling?
No I don't use the front brake
fun to watch! I'm a #3
Thanks Stefan, cool - on to #4 then :-D
Haha me too. I sit confidently.
Hello, those looked great.
I used to be able to do those turns on my little wr250. But I feel like I'm gonna drop my t7 when I try this.
Ive got a knobby on, if i just feed it more power will it shoot out from me or will it potentially work for me, im worried ill drop it on myself.
Thanks for that. It's certainly harder on the bigger bikes, a little less lean on them as the increased torque will make up for it. 🤙🏼🤙🏼
I now see I'm a #3, thanks for sharing this video. I plan to practice the rest of the turns and progress. Cheers.
Incredible
Most entertaining!
Thanks 🙌😎
Shaun Terblanche you master all, and that is great. Next is a stoppie with 180 turn and wheelie away?
Plz make a video of how to do this..
hi, what is the name of your equipment? Where to buy?
Do you front brake at all at the 90 and 180 degree spin turns from a stop?
Currently a stage 5 guy.
But I'm working on it 😎.
This is legitimately useful. Thank you.
Came for the skills
Stayed for the turning
this looks fun! cant wait to get my license!
Too good !!!very well shot and explained
That was GREAT entertainment. Dang, I've got some practicing to do!
What gear are you in from step 9 onwards? 2nd?
