    Jump height has some utility in the game but it can also spell doom.A slight bump mid flight and its a major spill.I've seen torn knee ligaments or achilles heel smashed too.Nonetheless,those are impressive athletic gifts.

    • @lamadoo
      @lamadoo 6 месяцев назад +13

      if your vert is this insane, it usually means your incredibly fast and strong as well. When I trained for my vertical, I had to lift heavy weights and do plyometrics. I was literally knocking, blowing by and pushing people over when i played ball. If you watch Isaiah Rivera play pick up games, I remember him knocking over a bigger and fat guy like he was a flyweight

    • @gmaxsfoodfitness3035
      @gmaxsfoodfitness3035 5 месяцев назад +8

      To add to the other reply above me, your tendons should be extremely strong when you can jump very high. You should be able to land from even higher than you can jump with no problem. This is something to practice/train for. Your feet also need to be very strong along with your Achilles. Essentially you should have no weak links starting from the feet/ground up.
      Also look at cats. They can jump very high compared to their standing height but they can also land from almost any position or height without getting hurt. So as a jumper you should be able to land OK even if you get moved unexpectedly in the air.

    • @triggersafe1
      @triggersafe1 5 месяцев назад +4

      @@gmaxsfoodfitness3035 I agree to all what you say.But overuse of body lead to wear and tear.I have seen hoopers in the past blow their achilles tendons doing regular hoop things (not even doing peak physical effort in a game-Kobe Bryant as an example).Im just saying that with impressive athletic gifts,one must also develop skills in the game so that you dont rely only on athletism only to bring you W's.Otherwise,you body will one day give out.

    • @gmaxsfoodfitness3035
      @gmaxsfoodfitness3035 5 месяцев назад

      @@triggersafe1 You're also correct about overusing your body. That contributed to my basketball injuries as well. Most pro athletes aren't actually very healthy (don't let how they look fool you). They tend to get overworked in training and practice and years of that imbalanced training contributes to aging the body faster than it should (this is why they deteriorate by 30 years old not because you should naturally slow down at 30).
      Former US 800m runner and Olympian Nick Symmonds has said that even though he was in peak running shape for his event he was getting sick a lot and he's actually healthier, in better shape, and stronger overall in retirement than when he was a pro athlete. It appears that traditional professional sports training and competition weakens their immune systems (one reason why you have so many athletes getting Covid, seriously it's like each season in every event in track someone's got it or recovering from it). Anyway I was reading that athletes are taught to train one extreme (yang) and neglect the other extreme (yin) which is the reason for aging early and injuries.

      Some people are simply built for jumping. I’ve been training to improve my vert for many years and am not seeing much progress . Sometimes I meet people who don’t even lift, never trained their vert, and yet they got incredible hops. You can train all you want but you cannot change the limits of your genetics.

    I'm 51 and remember back in high school during PE class when we were just trying to "get the rim".😄 I ended up with a 39" vertical at 6'1", but these guys today put that to shame. Unbelievable.

    • @TopSoulMan

      If you had a 39" vertical at 6'1, you would be able to touch rim at 11 feet.
