I know some won't like my Liverpool / City classification
Liverpool have won 1 league title in 34 years. Obviously they have the European pedigree, but it's 2 in 40 years
Maybe a bit of recency bias for City, but if we're not allowing City for that reason, we can't have Pool either
Fair if you feel they should switch - I don't feel there's a wrong answer

The only reason city is AND should be first tier imo is simply their sheer strengh in the present , there is literally no team in the world that can beat city in decisive matchs other than Real Madrid (barring the occasional hickups that can happen to any team , no team is perfect...)

It was United that surprised me. Used to be top-tier but they have a crumbling stadium, are badly managed (INEOS already clumsy with ETH) and aren’t close to competing in top-tier competitions (and haven’t been for ages). Top talents moving there have seen themselves burnt as a result (it takes two to tango ofc, but environment has to be a factor).

I love your content in general but putting City on the highest tier is absolutely ridiculous. You yourself said it should at least be partly on history of the club. City have none and players only go there now because of Guardiola. He leaves and they certainly won’t have anywhere near that pull or aura. Heck we beat them to Declan rice after just one season of challenging at the top level.

I think for the likes of Smith Rowe, Viera, Nketiah, Nelson, Zincenko, the fuse should be short. We can’t just waste space in the squad for players who we can instantly replace upwards.

I get the point your making but trossard is a woeful example, you can’t replace what he brings as an option for anywhere near 25M, and the constant mentions that you think we should move on from Kiwior it’s seems like you miss what the likes of him, trossard, Jorginho bring when they play/ the fact they are good bench options, we can’t suddenly have 17 players who are both unreal and willing to regularly be on the bench, some players in our squad will be 7 out of 10s, and they are far better than Eddie, esr, Nelson (proved that the past 18 months). If you said sell zinny, Partey id get that

I'd counter in the Trossard argument that, signing those "dream signings" doesn't mean that they will perform as said dream. Selling a player we know will perform, just because we signed a new one doesn't make sense. If perhaps after 6 months we saw our new signings performing, then yes it makes sense. However, what if we get to Jan with these new players who aren't settling in, adapting and performing way below expectations? We'll be weakened and risk our season collapsing over shiny new toys.
This is a big reason I don't think we will ever sign more than 1 big name per window, it's just risk management. 1 big name (Rice) , 1 risk/market opportunity (Havertz), 1 potential (Timber) and 1 floor raiser (Kiwior, even though it was in Jan it was meant for the same window). Selling players will relate to value and utility as stated, but that why Trossard is better to keep in the squad, but ESR makes sense to sell. Similar value, but big gap in utility. Selling low utility and replacing accordingly based on what the market conditions are.

    • @sleepyshinx3623
      @sleepyshinx3623 2 месяца назад

@@olsenfernandes3634 Yes I did, and this point of him over performing is nothing because best the best players regularly over perform their xG numbers. It's due to them having the X factor and scoring unlikely goals. Players who perform close to expected numbers, they not scoring from nothing, they scoring goals they should only.
And yes, Trossard is not a pace player, he's main value is in his technical ability. He could easily still get another good few years out of him. Would much rather we just kept him for his X factor till he on the decline. ESR however? Much more sense to sell, because profile wise he isn't being utilized and is not developing on the bench (vs Trossard who is). So his age is not a worry, if anything he will remain a quality option from the bench as his minutes decrease and younger players take his minutes.

I ask because I think our club leaders / owners seem to be on a progressive improvement path rather than an urgent lurch to get a seat at the top table. Leeds /Spurs /Chelsea (last 2 seasons) have all fallen in a messy place by trying the get it now plan. I think your other offering on our likely extensive recruitment plan for ‘24/25 is very much on the mark but likely just another step or 2 up towards the top table- and I think winning the league OR semi-final in CL will be a mighty achievement AND set us up for more of the same til we win BOTH perhaps in 3-5 seasons with only a handful of current starters in our team but another handful on our bench

Interesting view point there Alex. I agree we are somewhat of a tier 2 club. Our banter title of "next season fc" has a certain element of truth we shouldn't completely dismiss. There are times that as a fanbase, conversations like "next season will be Viera's year" or "this will be an incredible long term project (Marquinhos)".
To move to that Tier 1 level, I believe we need to find talent that can prove itself quickly similar to what we found in Declan Rice. Looking for this kind of talent is an uphill task which is a possible reason why Arsenal now is not making moves for new signings too quickly in this current window.

To me I think the challenge is about finding players willing to play squad roles at a high standard with the age profile of the players ahead of them. Can we get a CB at Kiwior's level to come to us, when we have a world class CB pairing under long contracts, aged 26 and 23? If not, why are we talking about making the squad worse?
There's a similar question for Trossard, even though it's more complicated. I don't want to lose that clutch factor especially if he's now buried behind 2 additions. Trossard is the perfect depth/bench player in how he can come on and impact a game, certainly better in that role than Jesus or Martinelli.

I believe you are asking the right type of questions. As for the fans we are in a sense never concerned with the tough questions as they are more for Edu and Arteta etc.
There is always a soft limit to how many players you can move on in a season.
There is about 4 dimensions to how we consider a new or current player for our squad.
    1: Which is his position?
2: Which other roles/positions can he do?
3: How does he complement our current crop of players regarding his role/positions.
4: How does his presence enable our squad building, our needs and resources over time/beyond this and next season.
If everyone is fit I fail to see one player that is available and linked that would go right in to the starting 11 and improve is if everyone is fit. So if we ask questions with a 1 or 2-dimensional thinking we will never have a good answer. If we use a 3- dimensional thinking we realize we need to sign a superstar in midfield.
If we consider the squad now and where we are in just 2-3 seasons we have a glaring hole in midfield we over time need to fill and having an adapted ready option is better than a new signing that still needs to adapt when the day come. There is where a Fofana from Monaco or Onana from Everton truly make sense as they may not be better than Jorginho and Partey but in a few years there is big shoes to fill and they serve us better joining now rather than later while still allowing us to sign that superstar if they themselves don't become that superstar.
As for Trossard as another example in the 1-3-dimensional thinking he is just a delight to have but since he is older than most of our forwards and thus will reach an age where decline is not uncommon we need a plan regarding who will be taking his minutes and providing that output.
Similar questions may be asked regarding Jesus.
Every single player needs to be assessed is a similar fashion.
All the while we cannot spend like Man C or Real Madrid in the long term so we have to sign a player now that may be the solution to a question over time.
Say if we move on Nketiah, Nelson, Zinchenko, Ramsdale and Partey which is the 5 most likely we may not be able to move on any other first team squad players just because the cost to replace.
3 of them are home grown which may increase the cost and 3 often inhabits important spots on the pitch or bench when fit which may increase the cost to replace.
Since this is how I think and how ESR have performed when playing I don't see how he is the one likely to be offloaded. Vieira could still come good, the jury may still be out and he could fill spaces where we lack substitutes and where better ones are hard to find and expensive to sign.
We also have the likes of Nwanieri growing up and all that guy constitutes in a 4-dimensional thinking.

If we had a Rice level signing every year, we’d kick on to that next level in no time.
Everything should be done to sign Simons/Musiala/Neves and if not then De Jong. Any of those elevate us the same as Rice has. That would give us arguably the best midfield in Europe - we already have probably the best defence!
Then next season, maybe a LW - in the ilk of Williams/Leao
Obviously you need a couple cheaper signings too, that hopefully kick on and level up. But you can see how quickly you end up with a world class team.
You just have to be brave enough to make marquee signings consistently. All the top teams do it (and we’ve started to recently, we just have to continue).
We have the strongest team we’ve had since the invincibles. World class CB’s and RB. 2 World Class CM’s, a World class RW.
That’s literally over half the team; we have to capitalise on that and, like I said, continue to be brave enough making marquee signings.

I love the channel, but selling players for sales sake isn't the answer. We need to raise the bar for the 25 man squad. If we bring in one or two front line attackers, seems like we should be moving Nketiah and Nelson on, not Trossard. Selling Trossard only makes sense if we can replace him for what we've sold him for or less. When we got him for just 27mil, that was a steal. If we're looking to raise the bar for the 25 man squad, look to sell Nketiah, Nelson, and Zinchenko (maybe Vieira). Also need to part ways with Lokonga, Tierney, and Tavares. Let's get those sales done. As for Trossard, I'd be looking to extend his contract.

It reminds me of the situation in British athletics. Sprinters in the uk team for instance have often been given chance after chance without ever really delivering. And this is partly due to the lack of fear of being replaced by someone else. For example mark lewis Frances broke all manner of records when young but just never really consistently out in the performance to justify his place. Compare this to the US where there is such a talent pool of sprinters desperate to take the place of whomever is in the team even if they’ve won an olympics their position is not guaranteed.

Arteta is easily one of the best managers in world football right now the way he has turned around a massive club like Arsenal with so little experience is going seriously under the radar.
It’s not always about winning, it’s about how you win. Look at Man City, they are winning but everyone knows it’s because of the money.
I really like that we can take players that other teams aren’t getting the most out of and make them some of the best players in the league with everyone falling back in love with them. Havertz, Trossard, Odegaard & White have all been great examples of this and I love that philosophy of improving players. I think that’s why a lot of players will want to come to Arsenal and play under Arteta.
I would love if we got Kimmich in our midfield, he is one of those that can take us to the next level with his mentality, Gnabry would also be amazing to see back at the club and I’m sure Arteta would get him back to his best. Also Gnabry is Kimmichs best friend and we’d get Gnabry for a bargain now that Olise is going to Bayern.

Your analyses are always top notch! Well done.
Real Madrid released Özil when he was constantly having high numbers of assists every season. Di Maria too was released. Beckham, makélélé, higuain, Arjen Robben, Sneijder, etc even when they were playing quite well.
Barca: Released Yaya Toure, Eto'o, etc
    Bayern: Same thing.
I love all our players but some have to leave for us to move forward. I would have preferred Nelson, Nketiah or/ Jesus to be sold (one or two of them), not Trossard. He's an asset to us please!

Trossard is one of our highest performing and decisive players.
So the argument would instead be, would real madrid sell one of their highest performing and decisive players for $25m?
Took part in 34 games last season. And as you've said previously, as far as value to come off the bench, and a player to be happy with that. That's near impossible to get.
That's not from an emotional standpoint but purely logical.

Honestly I'd start having that argument about Martinelli, while he's definitely a talent and could improve in the future, I don't know whether he's what we need in that left side and his sale (which would surely be massive, 60m at least) could help fund a replacement on that side of the field

Fully agree... but - just because talent is out there, doesn't mean it is available.
    We cant just have a fire-sale and get rid of everyone, it has to be smart, that being said;
Viera - young, has potential, but is weak, has not shown enough in the time given and has poor mentality (bruno) - Sell
Tavares - Does not fit schemes, poor mentality, no value keeping him - Sell
Tierney - Great fullback, but not for us, poor inverted, injuries, quickly declining in value - Sell
Trossard - proven performer, covers many areas, low wages, squad - Keep
Nketiah - has been a great back up when called upon, but does not add anything to the first team - Sell
Smith Rowe - Injuries, does not fit the schemes as well as others, has value for other clubs, unlikely to reach the highest first team levels - Sell
Kiwior - young, has value as a squad player, but does not fit what we need, far better, available players out there for the same value - Sell
Zinny - Versatile, can still improve, helps the scheme, great mentality, confidence player - Keep
Tomiyasu - Covers both sides and the middle, great 1v1 defender, very trainable, needs game time - Keep
Ramsdale - Sad how its ended, holds better value than what's reported, clear mentality issue, not elite - Sell
Nelson - Not a first team player, has been loyal, great moments, but not enough to push the best players - Sell
Partey - When fit, world class, mentally in and out, makes us better, media nightmare and injury prone - Sell
Jesus - Still a gamechanger, will get back his spark with time, can cover a lot of areas, fits with the team - Keep
I would say everyone else is 'keep' but nobody is safe from an upgrade, but you cannot just buy and sell like in fifa.
I think a club like us would benefit from a sister club with similar play style and ethos where we can lend players to for them to develop

Selling someone clutch like Trossard for 25m would backfire. What will that 25m bring in today’s market?
The amount of points Trossard can salvage will be key for a title push next season. You can’t just always plan and build for the future.
And your tier seems incorrect. RM and City are miles ahead of all other clubs. And RM honestly is in a different league can’t even compare with City. Bayern probably would be a little close to them but I don’t see them winning UCL anytime soon. We can’t just get to City’s level in one window/season. We still haven’t won anything important in 20 years. First priority should be that. Selling best bench player in the world wouldn’t make sense in that case.

The missing piece in this is that having the talent is half the job. Having the courage to play them before they "deserve" it is the other part. You can look to Madrid, Bayern and City for examples where players are given chances to earn trust. It can't all happen in training. Playing Odegaard 90mins while 4-0 up at half time isn't good squad management and I hope Mikel learns.
I'm not sure how Trossard is 7th choice attacker. That assumes all the other 6 can play in every position across the front three better than him and I beg to differ. I think he's a great second tier option for games where we dominate possession and create loads of chances. I'd take his finishing, coolness and creativity over Martinelli, especially at CF. Trossard for 25mil is not as clear cut as you make it seem.
Also, let's actually play out the scenario with Osimhen for example. Say he hits the ground running but Martinelli is still out of sorts going into December. Who replaces him on the left? Havertz? We'd be back to trying out fringe players in no time. Trossard's inclusion in the squad has several upsides and admitting that isn't about being attached.

Good video. We always have to pay overs in the prem, we sell Trossard at the top of his abilities for $25k (don't have a pound symbol on my keyboard) and will need to buy someone of less ability for $35k to fill his spot in the squad. Doesn't make the best sense. Although I agree we need to be more ruthless with our outgoings but unsure if Trossard would be the right choice.

I'll start off by saying I'm an Arsenal fan. Teams like Real Madrid, Bayern and even City, have a gravitas that I don't think Arsenal has YET. The best players in the world WANT to play for Real or Bayern, etc. Arsenal just does not seem to have that same pull. I'm just not sure that the same strategy as what those teams apply will work for Arsenal. I agree on the thought that we need a change in mentality - I'm just not sure what strategy would be the best. I reckon that the plethora of social media content creators around Arsenal (kickstarted by Robbie Lyle IMHO) has contributed to a growing fanbase and love for the club and its history, particularly the Henry era. Additionally, both Henry and Wrighty who are popular pundits LOVE the Gunners. This has to be the beginning of a wave of support that will produce the gravitas we need to get into that top tier. @DiffKnock, love your analysis, thanks for all the hard work!

  • @The_Tisch

I do agree, but... Good players often need half a season to settle down - Havertz just now, TH14 and DB10 back in the day - so if changes might mean months of adaptation, we should only make them if we're sure they really entail an improvement. Also, young players need time to develop: we mustn't sign someone who'd block Nwaneri. Lastly, we want to buy players like Brighton or Leicester a few years ago before their price skyrocket (Martinelli, Gabriel, Saliba). All this means some calm patience alongside our rightful desire and ambition to be top tier.

The Man City (Sale of the summer) made a transfer income of £144 million. For three players. So I would say, thats pretty easy to accept. Sterling, Jesus & Zinchenko were not starting matches, week in & week out.
And your figures, exclude the weekly wages, that Man City paid, at the time. All three of those players, signed improved contracts, with rival clubs. Which means that City were gaining a financial advantage.
The point with Arsenal, most recently, in the last 5 years, is that when the club sell the fringe & bench players, the transfer fees generated are 'fair'. Clubs like Chelsea, Man City, Real Madrid & possibly Bayern are able to get away, with selling their unwanted/discontent players, at a profit, which is above the market valuation. It's moral corruption & extremely manipulative. Some might say 'clever'

Real Madrid is an interesting case to consider, as they've altered their buying strategy from time to time, and again recently in bringing in Mbappe. Of course they let Odegaard go in the way you're advocating, and I don't currently think that looks like the right decision. Modric is coming to the end of his career and none of Diaz, Ceballos or Bellingham really offer what he has given them for the last decade. Whether they can maintain their level without him, I'm unsure of.

Arsenal's sales policy lacks killer instinct and so does the fanbase.

Love your videoss, but the Trossard example is a wild one. He's proven that he's clutch when needed in his first two seasons. Both as a false nine & healthy competition for Marti at LW. He's the wrong example here, even in your hypothetical dream signing(s) scenario (not even linked to some of them 😂).
He'd be the experienced squad player in that scenario, ala Jorgi this season. This video is all based on short term hypotheticals. We need a little more patience. Why? Because we're ahead of schedule and currently going through a transfer window with a Euros slap bang in the middle.
Love your videos but i think this is jumping the gun. We get to tier 1 by selling right. Like an Eddie, Nelson, ESR (pure profit too) etc. And buying right, which we've improved on. With only ONE signing each sesson being a marquee one e.g. Rice.
So even if we get one of those hypothetical players, we're only realistically getting one. Meaning a consistent player like Trossard is a perfect quality cover for a new attacker as he settles in.

I think one Arteta and Edu’s greatest contributions is spotting talent that can be improved and improving them, which under new FFP will be how success is achieved rather than ruthlessly buying the perceived talent and selling off who doesn’t cut it, sure that will always be part of success but more emphasis on improving players than ever before under new ffp and this is our chance to break into tier 1.
