1994 camaro rough idle problems

- Here is my 1994 Chevrolet camaro with a 3.4L v6 idles rough like it has a cam shaft but doesn't. Cat converter was removed by previous owner. O2 sensors are upstream in manifolds. Idles at 1000, I can't figure out why its running so rich. Any help would be nice

had one doing the same thing changed the ignition control module and I.A.C. fixed it good as new. hope it helps best of luck to ya
Looks like an IAC Valve (Idle Air Control). This regulates the amount of air necessary to mix with the fuel to maintain a steady idle. When it died like that is a clear indicator of an IAC Valve failure. You may also have a carbon build up where the throttle plate is not allowing the throttle to close all the way - which can cause similar issues allowing too much air into the engine.
I see this video is from quite some time ago, but other people having similar issues with a rough idle should do some research on the IAC valve and cleaning a Throttle Body.

My 1994 Firebird 3.4 is doing almost the exact same thing. Exhaust smoke isn't as dark and the rough running only happens after first trip of the day or immediately in extra humid/wet weather. I tried unplugging my O2 Sensors but it made no difference. When I looked at the O2 sensors I saw no way to really get a wrench to/on them. Did you have yours done? If not, how did you get a wrench on those sensors? From underneath? Thanks. Glad you finally got in figured out. I wish I could.
For the oil light it has something to do with the oil pressure check the oil pressure switch/sensor
Egr and gasket, pcv valve, any exhaust leaks can cause it to run a bit rich.... rough idle- throttle position sensor, idle air control valve, map sensor, mass air flow sensor. Take your plugs and see if any of them are fouled if so replace your plugs and wires....

I also want to mention as well when you started it, it died that is a good sign of a bad iac idle air control valve and it will also cause it to run rough... remember that the iac map sensor tps and the mass air flow all run together... if you replace one replace all of them.. I was running in the same issue and is still currently running in the issue of rough idle and crank but no start. And when it does it will idle rough and die.. this is a easy fix just got to narrow things down little by little. But I would get that egr swapped out on a defininate. Your egr is exhaust gas recirculation if it goes bad you will run rich. I'd get it fixed first before anything. Swap the injectors and the others I mentioned and you should be good.

my 02 firebird with the 3..8l was doing the same thing except it wouldnt idle i had to keep pushing the gas turns out it needed a cam sensor, lower and upper intake gasket, and had a clugged catalytic converter. if your antifreeze is good then you dont need the intake gasket. when you drive it does it sound like a alot of rattling under the car? could be a clugged cat
it might be your manifold absolute pressure (map) sensor.
and a good carb cleaning /rebuild
Obviously an ignition problem. Plenty of fuel, but not being burned. Try replacing the radio antenna.
Sounds like a big vacuum leak, I can hear the hissing sound when he revs the engine.
well from the looks of things your o2 sen may be sucking air and causing your car to not run right that would be a huge problem or u could be missfiring as for the carosion in your manifold do this use seafoam replace your plugs wires and coil pack use the seafoam to dispurt all that out of your intake run a full tank of 91 octaine with about a half a bottle of lucas this will increase your performance and gas milage n fix all problems take my word for it

hey mustangjoe88..I have a question for ya bud.I have the exact problem with my car and it's also a 1994 v6 camaro. It idles poorly, rpm jumps up and down. When you first start the car it idles like it has a huge cam in it and white smoke comes out of the tail pipes and it also dies on you at idle
mine will run good for like sixmins then die and wont start back up

If your gas is burning Rich it's an O2 sensor problem

U have a vacuum leak my car was doing the same thing but get it fixed quickly because shortly after my car quit running altogether

i have the same car and it looks like you have a busted head gasket i had the same problems. look at your white smoke pouring out its super blown
need a new catalytic converter
its your thremostate switch it out and youll be ok
mine does the same shit i changed 02 sensors the iac valve and cleaned the throttle body egrs are alot for these so im trying to hold out on it anybody else have this problem and fixed it as i did these things it got somewhat better nowhere near where it should be

I just finished rebuilding my 94 Camaro's motor. The oil pressure shouldn't be nearly that high when idling.

buy urself an OBDII diagnostic scanner with graphing capabilities and then research some stuff on the internet and use the scanner to check all the sensors; o2, cam, crank, map,maf,etc etc and that way you can see whats really going on with the car and why its running rich and rough. Instead of throwing parts at the car and relying on all these unreliable youtube comments.
