Warren, I just rebuilt my swing cylinder on my 416 CAT, and looking at all those hoses and bolts I just decided to leave it on there! It wasn't that difficult! Also I don't have a HUGE vice to hold it while I take off the gland!! Most of the work you do on the piston and gland which comes right out!!! Sure wish I had a crane like yours though! One job I'm putting off is the seal on my torque converter is worn and she leaks when you shut her off. According to the manual, you rig up a sling to lower the tranny off of the roof of the cab. Sounds like fun!? Well at 63 I'm going to think on this a while!! Love your videos and your doggies!!
Sitting here watching your video while recovering from a back procedure, use everything you can to save your back. Back surgeries are most definitely not fun. Keep up the good work and keep safe!
Hey Warren, I am in Winnipeg Canada and I would like to thank you for your channel. I am an old HVAC mechanic so I have a slight knowledge of your trade. More importantly,I have been battling a serious infection the last two weeks and thank heavens I found your channel ,I have been unable to do anything of late, so you have provided a much needed way to pass the time. Thankfully, this nonsense I have contracted is leaving, however I am still going to follow your adventures. All the best Jack Martin
I was a heavy equipment operator for 40 years worked with a lot of mechanic's and you are a good one don't listen to the nay sayers that's why they are watching your videos and not doing one of there own, keep them coming hand
That orange ring is the removal tool. If you install it after you take ok the snap ring you don't have to beat the rod out of the barrel. The snap ring groove is beveled on the one side so you don't need the ring for installation. It always gets caught and then you have to beat the cylinder head in. Also, people leave the orange ring under the nut so it's there for the next guy to disassemble if they don't have a seal kit. Keep up the good videos.
Hell yeah. My favorite channel 👍is it weird I get back home to the shop after a long day of servicing equipment and watch ya fix even more lol. I think I have a problem. But a good one.
If I could afford it you and your family would go on vacation. YOU NEED IT. But you would go crazy. Lol. Love your work ethic work work work. You are a RICH man. LIFE IS GREAT 👍
Another great video thanks Warren....maybe a chest mount for the gopro would be worth a try? You can get holster type setups but the camera sits in the middle of your chest and you can point it up or down, it would reduce the head bob (that's what it's called lol)
Good job!💪🏽I always put me a big hose clamp around the pin and put it around 2oclock when I'm tryna drive it out so that aggravating assed pin dont keep falling/sliding out the other side.
Never ceases to amaze me how deep and broad is your knowledge base and how methodical you are in your work. So tell me your secret on how you keep that camera clipped to the bill of your cap without it pulling the back of your cap up? I wear mine like that and it feels like I need a counter weight so it doesn't tip down over my eyes. You think some Red Locktite inside the headband might help? Appreciate all your video editing done in addition to your already full days.
So glad I watched this. @35:50 you gave great tip on compressing the rings but put old wear ring over so hose clamp isn’t pressing on the seal. Thanks Warren beauty tip!
I deffinately feel the pain on the bleeding. On blood thinners because of a heart attack. Keep pumping the vids out bud. I enjoy them as I am now on disability and unless there is groceries or grandkids I don't go out much
That's a good idea for the Teflon seals. I usually use a piston ring compressor to resize them. The wear ring and hose clamp sounds alot easier. Thanks 😉
Warren, with all the smartasses (who aren't really smart) out in viewer land, you have to fight back. Good job. Good content. Good humor. Keep it coming.
I used to use a piece of steel banding material, measure my OD + some for the ears. I would form it into a compression ring with the ends bent out at 90 degrees and hold them tight against the lubed o-rings and seals with needle nose locking pliers to help keep them from rolling over. Commercially a piston compressor tool with the right ID could do the same thing. It's like having an extra hand. I keep a 4' length of banding strap in my truck for those oh cr*p momments.
Warren, great video. How many PSI does it take to take off that Nut at the 10:21 mark? I have a 310C and I was hoping I could do it with a cheater bar. I'm not a mechanics so I don't want to put no more money than possible into this project. Will the Earthquake XT 1/2" drive work with my small compressor from HF work? What size socket it that? Mine appears to be a 46mm (on the flats the nut measures 1.8"). Does that sound about right?
Wuz thinkin if you set that bucket down on some type of dolly, you cud roll/swing it side to side to allow access to those trouble makers....great vids...keep em comin 👍🏻
I enjoyed watching this video. Just wish you have the first clip on how you remove the swing cylinder. I have a 1985 John Deere backhoe and I’m trying to figure out how to remove the barrel from underneath
My work toolbox looks about the same as your service truck tool collection, except I only push 1200lbs of tools and they are a little smaller than yours. I did ditch some hammers though. I never needed all 13 of them anyway.
easier to leave the cylinder in the machine and just use a come-along to pull the rod with the gland and the piston out - you forgot to remove the snap ring and install the temporary red ring to prevent buggering up the gland threads before pulling the gland out.
Great job, love the videos. Just wondered why you don't use a trash box for all the rubbish rather than chucking it on the ground, would be less work at the end of the day, not having to pick everything up.
have a question about your service truck ? if i understand it right the air compressor is hooked in to the PTO ? or is it the generator ? if able to could you give us a run down on how the system works please
HI western great vid, but I dont know what your hitting with the long steel bar? Im doing m y first re packing on a 310D stabilizer and have a rusted snap ring. Any more tips be great thanks..
So far, the 510 doesnt have any cylinders leaking. The alternator died and I just wired in one off a chevy. matches perfectly. the control valves need new o rings. thats coming up.
Could you please think about buying a magnet mount for your camera and also a tripod to set up off to the side to capture your work, don't wear the camera on your head, it very hard to watch because your moving so fast. Thanks, like your work.
I enjoy doing this kind of work. I've done this for aleast a dozen times. and know what? Yesterday I installed one of the seals on backwards by mistake. It costed me about 2 extra hours had to take it all apart and do it all over again. it was fun though. 🤭
I thought most of those piston heads had a rubber O-ring on the inside to keep oil from going through the inside of them. Anyhow, thanks for the video and the play by play commentary; you make an hour go by fast.
hydraulic shop I’d love to but zero time during work day to that. We have around 200-220 machines underground with only 50ish mechanics to keep them going... we desperately need more mechanics....
No No No you did it all wrong. All your seals are backwards and you got left over parts in the sack you did it all wrong. What is wrong with you?........... Just had to say it. Excellent work as usual.

Suggesting is saying " you know you can pull those out of the barrel and reseal without pulling off the machine " not " I never " as if you don't do it his way your obviously wrong. I should have shown removing the end cap on the barrel and resealing , so if you are just pulling the rod out and leaving the barrel on you are doing a half ass job on that particular cylinder.
I have left the barrel on the machines for years and have not had a failure yet. So it must not be a half ass job as you say. I’m glad someone showed me this trick 20 year ago, really makes it easier to hold onto the barrel when taking it apart.
"They" also had to pay to have them manufactured and then had "their" money tied up sitting on a shelf until the dealer ordered the part, and then the dealer had money tied up sitting on a shelf generating $0.00 dollars until someone purchased the part. If you think it's such a lucrative market - go into the hydraulic seal business...

There is nothing good on tv anymore. Waste of electric, hollyweierd is on its way out.

Omg. The pain of the Deere cylinders with the orange ring. I got cheap and starts buying cheap kits from Hercules. Thanks for the informative video.

Q. Do you have to remove the whole cylinder or could you not just pull the piston and leave the sleeve in situ?
I hardly ever pull the barrels just the rods and guides out fix them and shove them back in good to go
Is there a removal video of the cylinder it’s self

just bought a seal kit for JD 4055 hydraulic pump. it said, made in Taiwan, province of China. They are being very diplomatic.
