80’s Classic!!! This is the music I grew up listening to. I love everything about the 80’s and Tears for Fears was very present during my childhood years. Besides being a great band, their sound and their style is very unique. This song has such an amazing and powerful groove that I always wanted to play. I had a lot of fun making this cover and I was quite pleased the way it turned out. Enjoy it!!!

Your obviously a very good drummer, but it's the offbeat hi hat groove that makes the drumming in this song so good (and difficult) don't know why you didn't do it.
Didn't the band play/record it this way, sometimes? I could swear I have a cd of this meter.
The hat is in 12/8
definitely wrong, the hats are more of a polyrhythm and the egg shaker makes it sound like it has triplets
This guy is obviously a strong player and very capable of playing the hi hats the correct way to the song. I'm also not sure why he chose not to.
true...many of the nuances of this specific beat aren't there...but he's sphincter tight on the groove. TIGHT. A drummer like this gets work.
I actually like how you do the shuffle the way the track is heard. It’s not how the drummer plays it live, but it sounds like the actual drum part from the song. Very well done.

It sounds more like a shuffle when the hi hat is played on the off. I liked the feel when you mixed up the hi-hat fills because the 2 & 4 was so solid! You could build a house on that 2, 4

Love how you compensated for the missing shaker. Not too many bands have a dedicated shaker guy. I'm an older drummer with arthritis, so I struggle to play it like
Leandro. I play light ghost notes on the snare to compensate. The guys in my band think my version sounds exactly like the original. Their hearing must be bad.

Neither does their drummer. The groove is because of a loop they run. At least from what I've seen. They relied on loops for a lot of their stuff.
L O exactly, they have a shaker looped that make it seems that the hi hat is constantly being accentuating

Great cover! We all know the shaker is looped on the original..you filled in the blanks with straight drumming to keep the feel..well done sir..
This song has a polyrhythmic hi hat pattern. That's one of the main things that makes the groove so unique. The hats follow the shaker loop that's going on and makes the song swing totally differently than a regular 12/8 shuffle.
Aside from that, your playing and pocket is spot on. You're a great drummer.
