I completely agree with your statement about people trying to relate even though they have nothing in common with what you went through, I suffer with a panic disorder, severe depression, and PTSD. I don’t know how often I have someone try and relate. You get the “I have the same thing and I made it through” it drives me insane!

thank you for talking about this!! ptsd really is experiencing overwhelming situation(s) that you are not able to cope with, and so living with ptsd can feel very hopeless, because it feels overwhelming everyday, the emotions and symptoms overwhelms everyday.....

It's been 3 years since I had my ostomy removed, and I thought I was really stretching things trying to think that my depression, PTSD (Received from another incident), and panic and anxiety was associated with it- but it's a thought that never went away either. My surgeries were'nt simple procedures either. Mistakes were made, I didn't respond well, and 15 surgeries later, I look like a carved ham. I appreciate you making these videos, because there's no handbook on how to deal with the world once you're indoctrinated into the world of having an ostomy, especially so if it's completely unplanned as mine was. Keep up the great work! Your service is far more valuable than anyone could think.

I have had the same situation as well! I have not yet been able to get a reversal. I'm extremely herniated and prolapsed.... horrible horror! Seven surgical consults and NO ONE will touch me.
High risk and liability. All said I would die in the table...yet all said I would die if I didn't get it fixed 😭
Hmmm... truly a sad sad situation! SOS. JJ

I'm so sorry you're dealing with this. I also live with depression and anxiety. It can feel so isolating sometimes but it helps to know I'm not alone!

There is no way I could ever understand even a portion of what you have been through. I don’t want anybody to ever minimize your journey, you’re an inspiration to everyone. That positive attitude will be your saving grace, and if you want to cry.....I say cry......it’s good for the soul to let the tears roll. 🦋

I struggle with Bipolar Disorder and I think getting yourself out there and trying to break out of your shell by making youtube videos is a great way to be happier and more comfortable with yourself. Congrats.

    Emily,
My name is Alicia. I also have UC and have been through a lot the last 4 years with this disease. I totally understand the anxiety and depression side of dealing with a life changing event like getting diagnosed with a chronic illness. I have not had any surgeries so since being diagnosed but I relate to what you say in your videos so much! Please continue the videos you do on UC, it’s so nice to just know you’re not alone or crazy in what you’re feeling lol
    :)

I’ve had people die in front of me. Why doesn’t it bother me? Not that I don’t care but I understand and there’s things I can’t control. As soon as you can process what you can and can’t control things get easier

i haven’t been diagnosed but i think i might have ptsd. i know i shouldn’t self diagnose but my parents aren’t the most understanding so i feel like i can’t go to them to ask for mental health help. i’m not sure if i can go to therapy on my own without their consent :/

Not so sure all depression can qualify as mental illness.. Like our bodies, our brains are still wired much as they were several hundred thousand yrs ago.. But what has changed is the (artificial, somewhat anti-nature) environments we've created, in which to live. These contrived environments possess (experiential and behavioral) deficiencies.. In the long term, these deficiencies may be impacting us, mentally, spiritually etc. (certainly physically!). So our societies, such as they are, may not be well suited for good mental health..

I was diagnosed years ago as a paranoid schizophrenic. However, I saw a doctor of naturopathy and he said he did three tests on me and only two were positive. He said for me to be p.s. all three tests would have been positive.

Same thing happened to me with Zoloft. When I felt better, I quit taking the medicine. After a couple of weeks, I'd start getting depressed again. My neighbor upstairs does the same thing. When he comes knocking at my door crying, I know he's gone off his meds. :-). Also, I've been taking Zoloft for over 20 years, and have had absolutely no side effects. I guess there's some question whether it's ok to take during pregnancy, though. Anyway, you look marvelous, and I love to hear your thoughts. Merry Christmas - I'm taking the chance that you celebrate that holiday because you are sitting in front of a Christmas tree. :-D

Yeah I think it happens to a lot of people. The medicine makes you feel better so you stop taking it, but you really should be weaned off of it, not just stopping cold turkey.

Did the medicine help regulate your period again? I’m having the same problem and it honestly scared me at first because my body has always been very consistent. Thank you so much for sharing your story!

    • @EmilyParrisVideos
      @EmilyParrisVideos  6 лет назад +3

Yes it has! I have always had very regular periods literally down the the time of day it starts and then this has messed with everything. I was recently diagnosed with PCOS which has messed with my periods, but because I have a history of developing blood clots we can't put me on birth control. I think my body was just so overwhelmed with emotions and stress that it didn't even know how to function.
