I just wish Bruce dropped the raspy voice for the last part of that coat line. Would it have been more powerful? Maybe not. But it's just weird to me that he'd continue to bother at that point.
Oof, Alfred begging Thomas and Martha Wayne's forgiveness for failing in what he felt was his duty, protecting their son by any means necessary, and at the same time having to feel the loss of a man he himself loved like a son. Heart wrenching stuff.
@@_the_rizzler but Bruce patched the autopilot. Which means he could've very well managed to get out of the Bat before the bomb went off. I'd have agreed that it was wishful thinking on Alfred's part if it hadn't been for that little clue with Fox and the fact that Bruce wasn't with some faceless woman we only saw from the back.
Bruce told everyone he was alive in the end. Showing himself to Catwoman and Alfred, fixing the Bat symbol for Gordon, giving Robin the coordinates to the Batcave, and knowing Lucius would find the autopilot had been fixed. A great way to end the trilogy.
If you really want to see a great Christian Bale and Michael Caine dynamic, please PLEASE watch The Prestige. You also get to see Hugh Jackman so that's a bonus.
Also to be fair... the first half of the script doesn't ask much of Bale's performance. They all act like "Batman needs to come back, then all will be fine" and Bruce Wayne is partially like "Damn you all and my ailments, I'm returning". Everything moves as many would expect: Batman will reappear, will kick Bane's butt, deliver some witty replies in low raspy voice and everybody will be fine and happy dancing the BatiTwist... Until Bane breaks his back XD. For the audience not familiar with Batman's general storylines (and those maybe bothered going for the "oh yeah, predictable" feeling) this would have been a big shock boosting some interest for the second part of the fim (where Christian Bale actually starts to act better... in the sense that his emotions return XD). I don't say that it was carefully planned (it could still be a mistake, in the sense that Nolan knew what he wanted and he didn't ask more emotional performances from his cast in the first half of the film in order to save time), but as far as many Batman comics go, it's an element that's been used before: "Oh, yeah; it's the goddam Batman; he has everything under control, nothing new to see... Jesus H. Christ; the dude is really hurt!". When Nat said she was not getting anything from Bale, I just though "wait for it" XD.
Out of the trilogy, this is my personal favorite. I adore the scene where Bruce finally climbs out of the pit. His father pulled him out of the well as a boy, but Bruce has to pull himself out of the pit as a man. This whole time, he has welcomed dying as Batman, but learning to fear death gives new life to his mission to save Gotham. I believe the bats aren't really there, but they're symbolic of his deepest fear. He has relearned the fear of death, and gives him the strength to keep living. He returns to Gotham to become the Bat one last time, but for Bruce Wayne to live, Batman must die. He and Selena can use the Clean Slate Protocol to start their new life together, and Bruce can rest easy knowing Gotham still has a protector in Blake as the new Batman. It's the only way Batman can ever have a happy ending, and I love it.
Yep, for me TDKR is the best of the lot. I know it's kind of a mess, but I love the Tale of Two Cities parallels, the reveal to Gordon, and the final moment with Alfred in Florence.
When Batman Begins came out, everyone praised it for being a dark and gritty/realistic Batman, and the tone persisted through the trilogy. But let's never forget Christopher Nolan is the director who gave Batman's story a Happy ending. That will always be my favorite part.
But he didn't get a happy ending.... He literally died in that nuclear blast. Do you really think Alfred really saw Bruce at a random diner in a different country years down the line and all he did was raise a glass and nod to him? He was imagining it- just like he said he did when Bruce initially left.
@@emperormouse5487 I’ve never heard anyone think it was a dream, why would Nolan setup the ending, including Fox finding out the auto-pilot had been fixed if he wanted audiences to think Batman had died? It doesn’t make any sense. To your question, the movie ends, Alfred could have easily gotten up and joined them at their table after the camera stopped rolling. Showing up, unannounced after everyone thinks you’re dead to wink at Alfred is exactly the kind of thing this Bruce Wayne would do, his love of theatrics and drama is well established in the trilogy. It ends with a happy ending. But if you choose to believe he died, I guess more power to you. lol
@@emperormouse5487no it wasn't imaginary...proven by the scene that came before it when Lucius inspects found out Bruce had fixed the auto pilot on the bat...that's all u need to know...Batman wasn't in the plane when it exploded
I always thought he had died, when someone made me realise he genuinely survived it really changed my opinion of the film, and not for the better. They establish in the first film how famous Bruce Wayne is, he gets tracked down in prison in Korea, so to suggest he somehow retires into anonymity in Italy is ridiculous and destroys part of the ‘realistic’ base the trilogy was trying to create.
In the first film he's young and presumably Alfred has him on missing person's lists and people are LOOKING for him, even then he was missing for years. In the last film he's publically a recluse and publically DEAD, they hold a funeral for him, presumably his obituary is in the news papers, why would anyone be looking for him in Italy or anywhere for that matter. People fake their own deaths for insurance money in real life, why would it not be "realistic" for Bruce to send off Batman in a blaze of glory and go retire with a lady in Italy. Like I said in a previous comment. Faking his own death just to wink at Alfred in Italy is EXACTLY the kind of thing this Bruce would do. @@MrScienceReasonLover

It took me an embarrassing amount of time to realize that the prison was Christopher Nolan's take on the Lazarus Pit from the comics and it blew my mind. Also, watch Tucker and Dale vs Evil.
Actually the prison is a thing in the comics as well. Bane was born in the prison of Peña Duro, forced to serve the life sentence of his father. The thematical similarities between this version of the prison and the Lazarus pits was a nice way of connecting Bane to Ra’s al Ghul though.
Funny story: I actually downloaded the entire Hans Zimmer score for The Dark Knight and I'd play it every morning while driving to work. I was the hero my office needed.
Now imagine living in Chicago and getting to drive on Lower Wacker drive with the score on full blast🔥. For those who don’t know, Lower Wacker is the underground road in the Dark Knight where Joker tries to kill Harvey while he’s being transported.
22:57 There's an older fan theory that they didn't show what Bane looked like cuz they wanted to suggest that he was beaten so badly that he doesn't have a bottom jaw. So the mask kinda fused into his face. I think Nolan likes to keep things a mystery like the Joker's past in the Dark Knight cuz he likes people to come up with their own conclusions. Makes the story more entertaining.

@@j.m.w.5064 The Dark Knight trilogy is a series. The argument for it to be a serial is weak, and even if it was correct I don't think calling it a series would become incorrect. Neither of the first two films needed sequels to resolve dramatic cliffhangers. They left opportunity to make sequels, but that is extremely normal for all pop cinema today. I think he keeps his bat voice even tho no one is around, because, hes not consciously doing it. When he puts on the suit he becomes batman entirely, and that voice is part of Batman. My favorite scene is at the end, when they reveal the statue and gordon looks on with that look on his face, and the music that plays - oh its so good.
Yeah, traditionally with DC heroes. Especially with Batman and Superman, there's a duality going on. Unlike Marvel where the superhero is like an extension of their character, someone like Superman is almost an entirely different person from Clark Kent. Like the guy gets so much into his character and method acting, that the secret identity is almost like a different person. Of course, the more prominent interpretation of Batman is that Bruce Wayne died in that alley. But still he puts an act.
@@soubhagyanayak3098 The main difference in the outlook of Superman and Batman is the direction their duality comes from internally. Clark views his Superman identity as his Other Self, while Batman views Bruce Wayne as his.

Bruce probably still has the intelligence contacts to be alerted when Alfred books his ticket to Italy(? Don’t remember which country) so he probably timed his visit to the cafe perfectly.

@@jasonkh4 Well, in that case, I believe he misjudged. I know of no one who watched that shot and thought "I wonder if she's really dead?" Instead, everyone deemed it to be bad, jarring work by the actor, director, and/or editor.
@@bigdream_dreambig again, it was so blatantly melodramatic, so jarring from the gravity of the other performances, and such a pivotal moment in not just the film, but the series, that I believe he was trying to draw attention to the idea that people who are believed to be dead might not actually be, which would be in line with how he treated other characters. I don't know how familiar you are with Nolan's work, but the guy is definitely not an idiot lol
That last shot with Bruce nodding at Alfred is so, so epic and emotional. The most emotional thing about it is something they didn't draw attention to, but had also been setting up throughout the movie. There, at the end, in the cafe on the banks of the Arno, as Alfred sits down with his Fernet-Branca. As Selina turns her head and moves her hair away from her neckline... she's wearing Martha Wayne's pearls. ... ... ... I wonder if Bruce told her there was a tracker in them.
I love how Catwoman and Scarecrow (Crane) are never named but identifiable by concepts. I heard that Joker was original supposed to be the "judge" rather than Scarecrow, which makes a lot of sense considering the choice between death and exile is quite Jokerish.
Fun fact: When Alfred wants to pay for his Fernet-Branca and spots Bruce being alive, he realises Bruce has taken care of that already since Bruce owns this place ...and Alfred puts his wallet away.
Nope. Bruce Wayne is dead, he don't own shit. Don't know what the name is of the guy with the fluffy hair but he does resemble Bruce Wayne and if fluffy hair guy owned any amount of real-estate anyone who has ever owned a TV would recognise him as a former multi-billionaire instantly. Alfred probably puts down his wallet in surprise and relief.
That, and his other line in there, "You fight like a young man. Nothing held back. Admirable, but mistaken." Both of those are incredibly wise. Part of what makes Bane so damn scary is just how intelligent he is.

This movie is a true masterpiece and I am happy I saw it in theaters when it was released. Unforgettable, emotional and very deep. A true Hero's Journey.
The reason why that person acted like Gary Oldman being Robin was a strange thought is because Commissioner Gordon is his own main character. It's like questioning whether Batman himself is Robin.
@@campagnollo No. she said she had previously guessed that Commisioner Gordon was Robin. Then she said, “Oh, I was close. Robin was one of the cops. Just not Gordon.” I’m paraphrasing there, but you get the idea

I love that ending so much as well. Its not only a call back to early in the film. It also calls back to when Bruce had to find the blue flower. Selena at the end wearing the blue dress is perfect. The flower represents a token of what he is fighting/looking for. Now Selena is that rare person who he can finally be happy with.
That’s actually a reach. Lmao. It’s not a deliberate choice. The blue flower had nothing to do with Selina’s outfit in the climax. The screenplay also doesn’t say that at all.
What I love so much is this movies overt symbolism; as a child, Bruce was carried out of the well by his father, but now, as a man, Bruce must carry himself out. That is why he rises

Hard for Christian Bale to seem like a good actor when he’s constantly talking to people like Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman, Heath Ledger and Tom Hardy.
Yeah Bale wasn’t really given much material to really shine as an actor, but he was still solid throughout the trilogy I think his best moment acting-wise was after Rachel’s death in TDK. He was also great in general at portraying the rich playboy persona of Bruce Wayne

This trilogy brings so much emotions. Michael Caine did such an amazing job, I cry everytime I see someone reacting to this trilogy. I see your point about Christian Bale, but I think that's a Batman thing. He is not an emotional character, not as Batman OR Bruce Wayne. But you can see how much he actually cares to the point of sacrificing his own reputation/life to save everyone. Overall, I really love this trilogy, so many memorable heroes/villains.
Definitely not a Batman thing. The character is portrayed horrendously in this series. His personality is so much more than just some brute with a raspy voice.
I don't think Bale is giving a bad performance by any means, it's just that he's being surrounded by a cast of more interesting characters being played by actors giving incredibly memorable and colourful performances. It's kind of like Mark Hamill in the original Star Wars trilogy, or Elijah Wood in the Lord of the Rings trilogy

Why people ain't suggesting her to watch Zack Snyder's DCEU trilogy?
Wow, this is a much deeper take than I got out of that movie. Bravo 👏
You really should consider doing movie reviews.

Tucker and Dale is awesome!

22:57 There's an older fan theory that they didn't show what Bane looked like cuz they wanted to suggest that he was beaten so badly that he doesn't have a bottom jaw.

@@imajhawk6146 I think physically he was definitely 100% committed like you should’ve seen what he looked like for the machinist compared to how he looked like in batman begins
Watch PRESTIGE best Michael cane role ever . another Christopher masterpiece.
PLEASE watch!! 😂😂
Yes!!!!
Absolutely
Michael Caine best role is probably from Sleuth..
Or Jaws 4
EXTREMELY underrated film! One of my favorites
24:30 you can literally shoot, drop, heat, explode on the outside, whatever you can do to a nuclear warhead and it wont set it off, because NUCLEAR requires FISSION
Right. Also, the fact that a cubic foot of uranium weighs over 1000 lbs explains why the Bat had such a hard time lifting it.
It won't blow up but it could leak. Not a great way to go.
The high explosive shell around the core might go off.
Or Fusion in this case, but your point still stands. :)
This is my favourite of the 3. A lot of the ppl say it's the 2nd one... but this one really plays your emotions big time... and the plot is genius.
Michael Caine's monologue after the funeral gets me every time, even though I know he's still alive. Great acting.
"Oh he cracked his mask!"
Me: *That's not all he cracks* 😏
If you want to continue with Batman, I heartily recommend the film "Batman: Mask of the Phantasm". It was the first animated Batman film to get a theatrical release and is considered by many to be the most faithful adaptation of Batman.
Fantastic movie
Yes but if so, don't watch the second one (Batman & Mr. Freeze: SubZero) without having watched Batman the Animated Series, at least the episode "Heart of Ice". The third (Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker) requires watching at least the pilot of Batman Beyond.
And for another take on Batman, "Batman: The Dark Knight Returns" , parts 1 and 2, are a splendid animated movie pair.
@@markgreene5926 You say pair but they've rereleased it as a single film.
@@markgreene5926 I agree wholeheartedly. The Dark Knight Returns was a much better take on the Batman/Superman rivalry than that abomination known as Batman v Superman.
This and Interstellar are the most I’ve liked Anne Hathaway in movies
So you don’t like Anne?
“Rachel Getting Married” is very good. One of her best.
Devil Wears Prada though?
Watch havoc. You will like her for "other" reasons
@@zestd3722 Another good one.
Here's something I didn't realise until it got pointed out to me:
The part where he's looking everywhere to safely detonate the bomb is almost exactly like the 1960's movie where Batman has a big bomb over his head.
"Some days you just can't get rid of a bomb."
You put such a good spin on this movie & I loved your reaction like a lot of them. Thank you for this one!!
Everyone who hasn’t read comics 100% buys that Bane is Ras Al Guhl’s child. Everyone.
As someone whose read several comics featuring Bane in some way, I absolutely ate it up lmao. Thought it was an artistic liberty
Yea thats the thing is that I played all the Arkham games as well as reading the comics to a point, I still really enjoyed the movie though!
Lol I beat Arkham City before seeing this and still fell for this. Got fought up in the movie.
As a comic reader, the moment Marion Cottilion was cast I knew she was Talia. Even when they announced her playing “someone else”, I knew she was still Talia.
@@Pancake_ice_420 Man, the Arkham games were so much fun. I even loved Knight, despite the overuse of the Batmobile-tank thing.
When Bruce tells gordon Who he is, he really is just letting him know that no matter all The things batman/Bruce did and how everyone saw him as a hero, Gordon was always his hero❤️
I'm throwing out a suggestion for next react: "Master and Commander", with Russell Crowd and Paul Bettany. It is a totally underrated film and an absolute classic. Doesn't get the love it deserves!
I don't think it is that underrated... 10 Oscar nominations...
Just think it got devoured by the Return of the King hype during that year.
YES!
I don't know if it would be a good react or not, so I won't opine on that part, but I absolutely think Master and Commander is criminally underrated. It's only a half-step behind Gladiator but I don't know if I've ever talked to a casual film fan who has actually seen it.
I'm not sure it'd be the best movie to react to because there are times where it isn't super exciting or anything, but I will agree that it's an underrated movie. When it first came out there was a ton of hype and I got it on DVD and absolutely hated it. It came out right around Pirates of the Caribbean and I was expecting it to be that sort of movie and it...most definitely was not. Over time you learn to appreciate it for what it is and it's a very well made movie with some great acting. I just don't know if it's the best to react to, but yes...most definitely underrated.
I don't know what any of you are talking about, besides the 10 OSC noms it's rated 85/80 on RT.
Your reactions TO the emotional core of these movies, are so very SWEET🥰🥰🥰🥰😁😁❤❤❤❤
i love your dedication to the Gordon family.
“No one cared who I was til I put up the RUclips Channel.” We did care! We just didn’t know it yet. 🤓
"As i terrorize Gotham, i will feed the people hope to poison their souls" the writing in this movie is just ridiculous
bad or good. cause it's good writing.
@@SB992REBORN it's fucking awesome. It's one of my favorite trilogies. The writing is good but i think the delivery is even better. Although nat didn't like bales batman hes my favorite.
@@babayaga96792 I like Keaton and Burton's Batman, myself. He's a monster, which is exactly what a nut-bar billionaire beating-up street criminals as a hobby would be.
This trilogy is very fun, as well.
@@michaelccozens bale is a very good actor. the scripts of the 2nd and 3rd movies dont give him much to do. Hes great in Batman Begins and so is writing for the character.
@@crobeastness since he’s already flushed out in the first movie I think the other characters kind of deserve some love in the 2nd and 3rd movie
"THINK ABOUT ALL THE FISH THAT ARE GONNA DIE TOO!!!" God, I love the weird way her brain works.
This movie is when I really started to love Anne Hathaway. When Bruce calls her out on stealing the neckless, she completely drops the facade with the tiniest of moves. Just perfection.
One of the DC gems. A perfectly made trilogy. The score and everything. Chills.
He always uses the voice because if you get in the habit of dropping the voice you could drop it at a really wrong moment. When he's in the suit, he uses it period.
I thought, might be wrong though, that he had a voice modulator.
That might be JL/BvS which is not part of the DCEU
@@krisssmith477 yeah, that's Batfleck.
Amazing trilogy. This movie in particular hits hard as I can't help but think about the 12 lives lost in Aurora, Colorado. Fellow Batman fans who should still be here today. May their spirits be at peace.
"Batman is Logan Paul" is not a sentence anyone needs to say again anywhere, EVER.
Did you notice that Selina was wearing Martha's pearls? A wedding gift from Bruce no doubt
I like how the "for you" internet meme got into her brain that well before she ever even watched the movie.
This movie is actually pretty decent and a really good finale to the trilogy
@Lycan I agree that it wasn’t as good as the dark knight and frankly people shouldn’t have excepted the 3rd to be just as good that’s a pretty high bar, but I still think Batman begins is the second best. The setup of that first movie is incredible
i actually disagree, i watched it a few months ago and sometimes i even laughed out loud because of how ridiculous some stuff was
@Lycan I don't hate it because it's not the Dark Knight, I hate it because it has an idiotic, nonsensical plot. The stock market thing requires a level of suspension of disbelief that completely takes me out of it. If someone did that to the stock market, they wouldn't jsut be like "well, I guess they got us, and even though we know it's completely artificial, rules are rules and we have to let it crash." LOL Fuck no. They'd be like "yeah, so anything that happened after XX:XX o'clock on that day will be reversed and they'd just reset everything to prior to the event. The stock exchanges are literally corporations, and while they are regulated by the government, they ultimately can do what they want. Shit, the government wouldn't allow anything that happened that day to stick either. It's just so fucking stupid.
The whole thing with a prison that is just a hole, and if you can climb out of it you're free? What a fucking stupid concept... So, what, only the strongest criminals are allowed to escape to once again wreak havoc on society? Makes no goddamn sense.
Also, Bane's voice is stupid and distracting as hell... This just isn't a good movie, and it has nothing to do with it not being The Dark Knight and everything to do with being disappointed in Nolan for making this pile of shit after two stellar films. On the contrary, I think many people like yourself only think it's good BECAUSE it's the last movie in Nolan's Batman trilogy. You WANT it to be good. But it's objectively shit.
@CYB3R2K30 Batman is far more grounded in reality than many other comic book series... That said, that's not really an excuse. A story still needs to be internally consistent. They weren't in the stock market of some fantastical world, it was supposed to be an event that could possibly happen in our world because they purposefully made it VERY CLOSE (if not identical) to our the NYSE. That's honestly just a lame excuse for plot holes.
@CYB3R2K30 I'm far from the only one who hates this movie for it's awful, plot-hole ridden story. Seriously, look into it.
Nat is such.a genuine soul. Watching her reactions had me tearing up more than when I first saw it myself.
Christian Bale did great, its just the personality of bruce wayne.
How did she say Christian didn't give anything wtf? His Bruce Wayne was one of the best portrayal of the character. He was so vulnerable and had geat emotional range.
@@RafidW9 Then how come I never saw him as Bruce Wayne, just Bale performing off a script?
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps if you're watching movies that way, you were just looking to nitpick from the get go and never give it a chance.
It's both, i think. He's like a stoic veteran.
Bale is method so of course he's not snotting everywhere. He's miles ahead of most batmans in my book. Im open to others in the future, My reaction to Heath Ledger's casting in TDK has taught me to wait and see because greatness can come out of non-type-casting, Affleck was asleep but maybe Pattinson will be different and interesting, who knows.
@@Mansplainer2099-jy8ps Everyone has their own opinion. But Bale IMO definitely gets Bruce perfectly and almost gets Batman (The voice Nolan made him do was the one issue) perfect. He's hands down the best Batman / Bruce Wayne put to screen. And I think is only topped by Animated Batman voiced by Kevin Conroy.
The fact that you know who Alex From free solo is, is amazing! That doc was soooo visceral. I was on the edge the whole time.
One thing that blew my mind. Remember that one Prisoner who threw the detonator off the ship back in the second movie? The character name is Ginty. In the dark knight rises, he joined Bane after they released all the prisoners. He's the one at 20:47 who was about to execute Blake before Batman saved him. I'm kinda saddened that he joined the bad side but that's also a touch of realism that i love in movies.
Different actor though
No he doesn’t. Eight years later, Ginty decided not to join Bane into taking over Gotham City after hearing the truth about James Gordon's resignation while his prison mates decided to escape from Blackgate Prison denied the paroles under the Dent Act.
JGL doesn't become Robin. It doesn't make sense that he would use his real name as his secret identity. Even in interviews Christopher Nolan says that he becomes the new Batman
I always thought that had the story continued it would have been the beginning of Nightwing.
He was Robin the whole movie. He was acting in a sidekick role the whole time We just didn't know his name. On rewatch there are so many instances where they were acting as a team.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt I so underrated as an actor, he's done so many good movies.
"I forgot I didn't trust her"
Been there with some of my ex's

...And Ann Hathaway wearing his mother's pearls in the last scene was the icing on this 3 layer cake for me.
