Julie Rheault you can do both of you like. Mainly the new is to keep it in place on double knitting. I don’t tie in on single knits. And really weaving long tails in after works better for them not popping out.
I have always learned to change colors this way also but I have found that when you wash the garment, those long strands of extra yarn work their way out. Am I doing something wrong?
Thanks Kristen!
Do you need to tie a knot in the existing color yarn? Or just in the new color?

What do we do with the yarn that lays around the first stitches in the beginning?

donna monroe I usually hand wash but perhaps when laying it in just weaving through the top of the stitches before wrapping the next row?
