In the exhausts there are valves, these valves can open automatically (Like a Ferrari F430, Challenge Stradale, GTO etc.) and/or can be opened electrically. The main reason for putting these valves in an exhaust is for the loud sound. With the valves closed, the sound is just normal, so you can drive it like its a normal car. When opened, the car is much louder! Porsche has (just like several other new sports- and supercars) a button in the car. You can adjust the valves.

Bruce R. Porsche does tune their production cars. E.g. you can get the Power Pack on top of the 911S involving heavy engine an other modifications (PASM etc), that gives you 30 horses extra. But it's about 13000 EUR. On the outside you can get heavy modification, too. E.g. the Aero kit for like 15000 dollars surely is more than mere cosmetics.

They don’t. You have to manually engage it. I have this feature on my 2015 991.1
