O'Carolan's Lament by Turlough O'Carolan (1670-1738), an irish harpist and composer. We recorded this beautiful tune in a norwegian fjord because I felt the atmosphere fit the mood of the tune.

The beautiful bass recorder was built by Monika Musch.
Sound by Sebastian Kienel
Turlough O’Carolan's towering talent brought forth these exquisite and evocative melodies. The delicacy of your playing has brought this lament to life. Thank you for your assiduous work.
It took me ages to find out the recorder was something more than a child's toy. Glad I learned, or I never would have listened to this. Brava!
What a haunting sound! It’s exquisite.
Superb.
So mystical in this setting
Beautiful music in a beautiful setting. ❤❤❤
Well, that's the most beautiful bass recorder playing I've ever heard. Brava!!
That's the FIRST bass recorder playing I've ever heard! Beautiful.
such a beautiful instrument
So beautiful, your recorder sessions are absolutely stunning, I like that you recorded this by a lake
Beautiful song, beautiful performance, beautiful scenery👏☺
too bad there's literally no connection between the video and the audio
@@kumoyuki Since they are both beautiful, they are connected!
Beautiful!
That was very alluring music. Lovely tone. Beautiful setting.
Gotta say, that lake valley has amazing acoustics!

Gorgeous woman, beautiful music!
Magnificent!
A beautiful and haunting sound , amazing ! 🇨🇦
Very nice, indeed. I have always thought that O'Carolan's music, being baroque, lends itself more to the timbre of the recorder than the pennywhistle.
Interesting perspective. Thank you for sharing!!
O’Carolan’s music is so beautiful, as is your playing. ❤❤❤❤
The best setting of the Lament I've heard; an incredible recording.
Do you really believe this was recorded live? Geezus…🤡🤦♂️
@@RustyKnorr The word "live" appears nowhere in my comment. 🚪➡
wonderful! The simpler the instrument, the more naturally it will match. Japan also has an instrument called the shakuhachi😊
Bellissimo!!! Grazie!🙂👏👏👏👏
Beautiful
Very nice and quiet; thank you.
Not sure how this came up in my feed but I'm glad it did! I love wind instruments, especially flute based ones as they sound incredible and can produce some of the most relaxing music I know of.
Also how come we didn't have Recorder's like this in school...all I got was a cheap and shitty piece of plastic that sounded horrendous at best!
:-D yes, the bass recorder is for me one of the instruments with the nicest and most relaxing sound. They should have it in schools indeed. - But it is also more difficult to handle and a bit more expensive than the plastic once ;-)
@@sophiaschambeck Due to that expense, I thought the recorder was nothing more than a kid's toy. Quite a while later I found out it's no toy. Our educational (US) is at fault for that as well, by not giving kid's the chance to hear this piece, and many others just as beautiful.
Cause that instrument is like $500. There are also pretty decent plastic bass recorders, but you gotta have the hand span to play it. I struggle as an adult to get my hands to sit right. And I got soprano, alto, and bass recorder (plastic) from an auction for undet $100. Still sounds great.
Belleza ❤
Beautiful...
Well done!
Just beautiful. Thank you for sharing it!
Mesmerizing and enchanting!
Very beautiful. Thank you for sharing.
This is truly special
HERMOSA MELODIA ❤❤❤❤
Impresionante
Very lovely Sophia! 💘💋🌹
Nicely played. Good camera work too, a drone I suppose. Usually Irish music has a different kind of drone.🤦
Beautiful, but couldn't have been recorded in such a windy situation.
Nice !
very beautiful. The only thing I find disturbing is the unnatural reverb considering the 'natural environment' of the visual. I don't mind the 'chemical' overdubs of second and third voices (very beautiful), but maybe a slight wind or water veil might "cover up" the unnatural reverb...
Miraculous.❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Beautiful location + performance! Thank's for sharing! :) What I wonder now: Was the original audio recording from the location any good that we can get a glimpse of how the recorder sounded embedded in all the natural sounds of the water, the wind? Or was the wind even muting/disturbing some notes as it blew over the window from the side?
On that day the wind was really strong. So unfortunately the audio was not usable especially not from the position I was playing from since the wind blew a lot away. - Usually I always try to have the „real-time“ audio in my videos, especially for the classical pieces. In this case the idea was to give the tunes a beautiful surrounding scenery and sacrifice the real audio for it. If you nevertheless want to get a glimpse how it would have sounded: I found this video on my phone from the recording day ruclips.net/user/shortsrYj5uDtOp_k?feature=share (it was freezing cold, thus the change in outfit 🤣)
@sophiaschambeck Cool! What an adventurous experience. Sounds interesting too without the reverb. Of course, that is a hell of a challenge to mic it in this situation without any wind pop sounds. Thanks for the sneak peek! 😊
I have a soprano, alto, tenor, and a bass recorder and a sackbut.
Lovely! Where was this place you were standing?
The recorder is normal size. She is 70cm tall
😂
So soft
Thanks for the music ❤
🙏💕💕💕💕💕
I love the music. Was it really recorded out there or are we watching finger synching?
Looks like a very, (too) cool to play a tune.
.
Wow. Having played tenor recorder in the wind, I'm surprised you can get any sound at all with the wind across the fipple!
I'm certain Sophia would say her recorder would not sound the same
if she had worn shoes and stood on that rocky outcrop.
♥
This is true my beautiful
I know a place in Donegal where you should play this the atmosphere and surroundings would be amazing at Glenveagh by the lake
I can send you a picture
There is a place in Kerry that I actually thought she was at.
I've always wanted a musician as a partner (as a retired musician myself). Hard not to have a crush on Sophia.
Strange comments, some people not satisfied, Ok!!! For me: Camera not perfect, music not perfect, nature not perfect, and so on.....
But,but: ...For what every time all things must be perfect in our shit mobile-phone-world!!! My feelings: ...nature and music and harmony ...Thanks for some good feeling minutes!

Soundtrack recorded in a studio
OK ..
¿What is this place?
oh, sophia...
yeah. prolly recorded in a studio.
Very beautiful, but I am confused... It sounded eerily similar to some Swedish folk music.
Ah, the price you pay for art. You must have frozen your arse off standing on that rock.
can u play - arirang with ur instrument ??
Now that is an interesting question. Arirang carries the tonal qualities provided by this instrument.
I half expected whales to come and listen too.
Me too

You are a good Classic musician but when you play irish music without intenzione folk you deprive folk music of his own spirit
???
I don't think so, i think she played well.
Those who can, do. Those who can't criticise. 🙄
Beautiful!
