Aja was the first album I played on my new Technics turntable that I bought with my first real paycheck. I still remember that moment. So clean - transported me somewhere else
This is the story of Owsley Stanley, an LSD maker and dealer, who was also a sound tech for the Grateful Dead, in the '60's. Look him up. When cocaine became the rage, LSD lost popularity (all the "white" men on the street). He was eventually busted when he ran out of gas (is there gas in the car?).
Steely Dan is a rabbit hole you're destined to fall into. Look forward to watching your reaction to their amazing discography . They never miss , and their diversity and musicianship is unparalleled.
Steely Dan is two guys Donald Fagen and Walter Becker (RIP) who hired the best studio musicians to record their albums. On this track the lead guitar was by Larry Carlton and the drums were the great Bernard Purdie. I've loved their music for over 50 years now and yes, it is timeless. This song is about a guy named Owsley Stanley who produced the best LSD on the west coast. He became famous and rich producing the drug. Eventually LSD fell out of favor to cocaine. He was a direct descendant of King Charlemagne of France. Hence the name Kid Charlemagne.
I work in a music store, and one day in around 2006/2007 we were playing this song on the stereo. Couple dudes walk in during the hook and one says “damn bro everybody sampling Kanye”.
Steeley Dan is an iconic band that has been together 50+ years and does not have a bad song. Fantastic top notch musicians and production. So crisp, so clear and soo bad ass.
Every time i listen to this song there's a miniature version of me in my head reacting and dancing the way you just did! Every single aspect of this song is pure gold.... Charlemagne was a king and emperor of the holy Roman empire and was responsible for uniting Europe through conquest in the late 8th century and it's credited with ushering in a renaissance that impacted European history for centuries. Great reaction 🤟🔥
I would suggest that if you are going to listen to more Sterly Dan, which I Strongly recommend, you start with their earlier stuff and work your way forward. Enjoy the joirney. LOVE YOUR REACTION.
Im not saying im good enough or anything but I try to play with stuff like this without just copying. I get brain melt sometimes. Emotionally as well as trying to keep up even halfway technically. True masters
Shout out to Rap artists sampling great tunes…Please react to Jeff Lorber Fusion - “Rain Dance” and “Tune 88”….you can let us know if you recognize the many Rap tunes based on samples from these funk tunes from the 70s
Not a group or band after the first album. It was Walter Becker and Donald Fagan hiring the best studio musicians available, playing with them and producing the very best sound ever produced in music! Now try reacting to Kenny Loggins with This is It or Celebrate Me Home!
@@theneverenderreactsonce a week for over three years! Every song is great…Green Earrings, Black Friday, Pretzel Logic, Aja, I’ve Got News for You, Peg, and hundreds more, don’t forget to check out Donald Fagen and Walter Becker’s solo albums as well as Tom Scott (horn arranger)
Can you react to "VALSHE - BUTTERFLY CORE"? She has a unique beautiful voice. Oh by the way, Valshe looks like a boy, but she is a woman. Valshe is my favorite singer! She is the one who made me fall in love with music. 😍🔥💕

I see where you are coming from. But the original artist gets compensated. Speaking from a pure musical aspect? I just love hearing samples. It brings music to life in my opinion. There is a lot of songs that I would not know if it weren't for sampling. I just have a different few on it
You know the song is about Owsley, right? It is loosely based on the life of the guy who made LSD his business...hee hee. Really interesting person, Bear they called him, and he hung around with the Grateful Dead a lot. His acid was part of the culture, really. And he made the band sound really good with him around.
I hope you're listening to their albums. No? You're cheating yourself. Decide on YOUR favorites by personally listening to albums instead of relying on others.
We used to use Steely Dan to test the speakers back in the 70s

That’s a great idea!
Hmm, we are still using them today.

Bernard Purdie is the drummer - one of the greatest ever. Larry Carlton on lead guitar - one of my favorite solos ever
Steely Dan is your favorite band’s favorite band. ♥️✌🏼😎🇺🇸
I whole heartedly agree with you. I will say also, Rush falls into that category as well ✌
I work in a music store, and one day in around 2006/2007 we were playing this song on the stereo. Couple dudes walk in during the hook and one says “damn bro everybody sampling Kanye”.
I hope you corrected them.
One song and moved on from the best band you will ever hear
Wow.
Yes, this has always been my favorite Steely Dan song.
"These guys are the definition of music." You bet!
Steeley Dan is an iconic band that has been together 50+ years and does not have a bad song. Fantastic top notch musicians and production. So crisp, so clear and soo bad ass.
A bunch of Steely Dan tracks were sampled. The best of the best musicians and songwriting grabs attention ;)
Saw them " Live " whenever they were in town! FIRE! UNTOUCHABLE!
Please react to Steely Dan "Don't Take Me Alive". Larry Carlton just kills it on the guitar.
The rhythm section here is the great Bernard Purdie , Chuck Rainey and Paul Griffin, can’t really go wrong 👍😀
This rabbit hole is DEEP! And fire from one end to the other. I suggest ‘black cow’ or ‘peg’.

Larry Carlton's lead on this is my favorite.
These guys (and the lineup of master session musicians they used) were pretty good.
Fantastic enthusiastic reaction to one of the greatest tunes ever made!
I knew exactly why you were freaking out. Steely Dan was sampled often.
Uptown baby. Uptown baby!
Warms my heart to see you enjoy this music so much! I love this band.
What an amazing reaction to an amazing tune! That's how I felt back in 1980 when I heard this first time!
Real musicians
Glad to see you enjoy them as much as I did all those years ago!
Thank you! I love this song as much as you do!
Bernard "Pretty" Purdie is one of the all time great drummers.
If you want to hear more of this drummer with Steely Dan, listen to "Babylon Sisters"
Steely Dan, your favorite bands favorite band 🔥🤘✌
If you think the drummer is losing his mind on this one. Listen to "Aja" Steve Gadd goes OFF!
SD had the best of the best.... and musicianship 🎸💥
I listen Steely Dan since 1983 …
Haven't seen a guys face melt in a while . There's a lot more where that
came from . Enjoy .

The Kanye sample always gets ‘em.
Another musically-deprived "rap fan" with the heart and soul of a true artist finally discovering what he's been missing!
Yup - I don’t crap on rap when I see the awakening.

😂😂😂😂😂 We know! We were waiting in you! 😁🥰🐰
Everyone studies same songs. But i do love them.. suppose u do 2.
While your on Steely Dan check out Pretzel Logic the single off the same titled album. Talk about smooth!
If there was a Mount Rushmore of cool, Donald Fagen would be on it.
U have to be high to hear those rhythms. And I'm sure they were.

"Sampling" used to be known as "stealing." How about learning how to play and write their own music?

its amazing how many youtubers are like.. OMG!.. Kanye sampled this! hehe

Exactly and it used to be illegal. How can anyone give no-talent losers credit for pretending to be "musical artists?"
❤❤❤

U can't count that u have to intuitive that
Sampleing is just a polite term for stealing someone else's ideas because you got none.
I hope you're listening to their albums. No? You're cheating yourself. Decide on YOUR favorites by personally listening to albums instead of relying on others.
But u know thats just when you're there. Otherwise its just nice elevator music.
Not impressed, any modern rapper can do 10 times better than this , right?
I don't think you're gonna find a lot of company with this comment. I guess check with Kanye
What a maroon!!!
