It is telling that the 110 is still relevant and appreciated after nearly six decades, especially with those who could have grandfathers (even Great Grandfathers) who carried, used and liked the 110. I wanted a 110 from the moment I first saw one in 1974. Enjoyed the presentation. Thanks for posting.
I have a few 110’s. Love them. My girlfriend was at a garage sale and picked me up a 112 made in 1990 for $5!! It’s in great shape. What a find! Very nice video, thanks.
My 110 is from the early 1970s and I still use it for field dressing deer. My cousin customized it for me just after I got it, cutting mild finger grooves into the handle’s wood and brass. Still works great.
Greetings from Texas! I'm genuinely puzzled by UK laws that forbid carrying locking knives. A blade lock doesn't make the knife more dangerous, and it arguably makes it safer for the user. Knife laws vary from state to state in the US, but where I live the sight of a Buck 110 riding on a man's belt is so common as to be almost unnoticeable.
@SlipjointSawyer the laws are so strict because guns are banned in the UK so all of the criminal gangs fight eachother with knifes and it happens in public constantly. Just like here in California, yes guns are legal to own but the laws on carrying in public are insanely strict because all the criminals constantly shoot eachother.
i’m almost 100% sure the locks ban is because you can’t use a non locking knife to stab usually. a slipjoint or friction folder will close on you if you try to stab most of the time.
Great comparison. I enjoy both of these knives for many of the same reasons. The 112 is the easier EDC carry, so I understand why some gravitate towards it, but you mustn't ever ignore the classic 110. Must owns, both.
I own a classic 110 and a 112 slim select, both are great knives. I agree with you, you really should have at least one or the other in your collection. Thanks for sharing and Cheers!
It is THE KNIFE that started it all when it comes to locking work knives. A knife and hammer in one. I have never needed a soft striking hammer due to having one of these or a glass breaker. Anyone can keep this steel and edge shape razor on a simple V sharpener, car window edge, of base of a teacup. Old world craftsmanship for EVERYONE.
I love these knives, my late uncle used to be a mounted cop in australia, he always had these on his belt and he gave me my 1st buck knife when i was around 9, his 112 had lighter brown in the handle and the 110 was mostly black handle, the buck knife is the reason i have about 30 fixed blades and about 5 nice folders
I passed down my Buck Ranger (model 112) with black phenolic scales to my daughter. I bought it around 1975ish and carried it extensively. It is a bulletproof design. I never saw another one with black scales and think they only made them for a short time before transitioning to ebony like the big brother 110.
Definitely two classics. In my opinion, the 110 introduced the modern folder. Besides being such a great design that all knife companies made a clone of it. Great video!
I always carry a fixed blade usually a 124 here in Canada. I have had a bad experience with a lockback failing, however I do have a 110 and have been thinking recently about a 112fg for pocket carry and small knife tasks
I’d put sharpening choils in them too . Can’t understand why it isn’t done from the factory . Some of the Schrade lockbacks came without too . Others had them . I’ll add one if it didn’t come with one . Ag least befor it needs a sharpening .
Just bought a 110 finger grove model and a 112 for the old man. I needed a good farm knife and have always aspired to owning a Buck. I have been through tens of knives over the years and each has eventually failed. The Buck is legit a tank by comparison to anything else I have owned. Absolutely thrilled with it..... Anyhow, thanks for the overview as it helped me fall off the deep end and finally purchase one for myself :)
I’m visiting my uncle in France in a few days. Last time I saw him he gave me a vintage french “douk douk”… wanted to return the favor with a classic American pocket knife so I’m bringing him a two dot buck 112 I found. Had a hard time choosing between the 112 and 110… but the former seemed like a safer bet for everyday use (and less sketchy perhaps for international travel)… seems like I made the right choice! Thanks
Found it while in the navy at Nas Ellison outside of the medical bldg in the bushes used it many times to cut out air craft crashes you know what crash firefighterusn 68 72
Good video! Looks like the 110 is Ebony wood & the 112 is Dymondwood...you might consider flipping the position you put your knife in the sheath/pouch...it is easier to open when on your belt...pull with your right, open with your left....also, may I suggest you condition your sheaths? A little tlc will keep them soft & supple & looking good & will last a lifetime as a result...note the weight distribution of the 110...it is called the folding hunter as it's principal function was to skin, butcher & otherwise dress deer & other game...the end would nestle in the palm & would give the hunter more puchase while processing the animal...in any case, the Buck is an all-purpose knife, a tool with many uses...Buck came up with the 112 Ranger as a result of fights aboard the USS Ranger involving the 110...the Captain said that work knives had to be under 3 inches...When Buck heard that, they came up with the 112 so as not to lose market share - they were issued to the sailors & were also available for sale on-Base....
Hey there Slippy! 🙂 Thanks for the comparison and perspective. BTW, thanks for your help, answering my questions on the Live yesterday! It was/is totally appreciated. 👍 Have a wonderful day/evening.
Interesting perspective. These are classics and while most people here in rural California carry more modern folders you still see these all the time, particularly with older people and cowboys. What are your laws around fixed blades camping, hiking, fishing etc? If you’re engaged in an activity like that are you able to carry fixed blade knives?
the 110s are awesome, i think i might try to pick up one of the ones in s30v eventually. might do the buck custom shop so i can get s30v on the classic wood handle.
Good vid, I've decided to grab a 110 with the magnacut steel, bluewood grip, and nickel accents. It's amazing to me that you cannot carry such a non offensive knife where you live, even in liberal california there is no limit on the length of knife you can carry.
The two handed opening issue was the reason I laid up my 110 and got the auto version. Canadian born and have a deep fondness for the old country but couldn't live there with all the nanny(ninny) restrictions. Gonna die here in Arizona where you can carry anything and I mean anything! Never felt safer.
Just some friendly advice brass tarnishes and when talking about traditional knife handles it's covers not scales. I carried a 110 for 3 years in the pocket as well as in the pouch (not a sheath).
I used a 110 for years, until I tried to use it as a pry bar and snapped the blade off. I don't abuse the one I replaced it with(as much). Treat it right and you'll never need another...
Howdy! 🤠 Perplexed Texan here trying hard to understand UK knife laws. I thought UK laws don’t allow blades over 3” or locking blades. The Buck 110 blade length is 3.75” and also features a locking blade. So are there certain exceptions that allow you to carry a Buck 112 or 110 and not other types of locking blade knifes?
I prefer the 112 for a number of reasons. It's slightly thinner and lighter, bu most importantly it fits in my hand better. It also feels more balanced. The 112 Slim is better than either of them. It has thumb studs, a pocket clip and is significantly thinner and lighter than the traditional models. It's also orange, so I'm less likely to lose it.
Here you have a new subscriber I'm from Argentina and I've had my Buck 110 in my pocket for almost 6 years and I've never had any problems. Carrying knives here is complicated, it's basically at the disposal of the policeman. If it's good, you don't have any criminal record and the knife isn't very striking, it doesn't make you any problem! But others take it from you, if you're lucky, it will be waiting at the police station, otherwise... At the officer's house 😂
I got the 112,not that easy to get in the UK,but really disappointed that when the blade is closed the tip sticks up a very tiny bit, and it can cut your finger, not good! 😐
And the idea of "two-hand opening" is a joke. I can open both the 110 and the 112 with one hand easily by pinching the blade and letting the momentum of the heavy handle open it for me.
If you people would quit stabbing each other, this wouldn't be a problem. It's like The U.S. and guns only nobody thought to include knives as a right in a founding document.

I feel sorry for you all. Government over reach. Your laws are so restrictive. You can't own anything. Move to the USA. Just when i think things suck over here i hear of the lack of freedom that you have there and i thank my lucky stars that i live in America.

It'd be nice if the 110 had the same drooping finger choil or bolster as the little 112; the added finger protection is needed on such a huge knife.
That would be cool
