This was such a useful conversation to listen to. I've read Arno's book, and it reminded me of vipassana style of meditation practice, but I've still struggled to apply it to my climbing. Listening to Hazel unpack it a bit more was super helpful. Thank you so much for facilitating this discussion!
Interesting conversation, ladies. Appreciate your perspective, Hazel. Thanks for all the work you are doing in this space. Stretch zone vs panic zone... so good.
Thanks for the feedback. It is, and I particularly thought it was important to recognise that both our physical and mental capabilities will need some work when lockdown ends. A useful pep talk.
Just came across this video and I’m so glad I did. I’m nearing a year of trying to lead climb and am still very much afraid to fall while climbing. Some days I can push myself and don’t think about the fall but other days my palms begin to sweat at the thought of going to the climbing gym. Hearing Hazel say that she also would get nervous prior to an outing really does make me feel better.
I'm so pleased it helped. One of the big takeaways for me was having a goal that's different to the usual "must climb my project" or "must get to the top". Instead aim for a psychological goal. "I have succeeded if I tried" or "I will try to have fun today". Reframing goals on a day out makes so much sense. Hazel has just started an online course you may be interested in.
Hi I m from Singapore, I m a reality therapist who boulder. I wanted to tap on bouldering to work with my clients. It will be nice if I can get connected so I can learn more from hazel.

Thanks Láralyn, I totally agree. Hearing someone talk about how the principles can be applied is really helpful. We're glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks Catherine. She brought so much useful knowledge to this discussion. Great stuff.
Mental game in climbing is SO important! Thanks for this chat, great to listen to on a Friday work day. :)
