Just received our fatboy after ordering back in October due to COVID.well it was certainly worth the wait great piece of kit, thanks again for a great review on this product
Sound great... That is until your next electricity bill arrives !... If only we were in the 1980's where electricity was a bit cheaper... I would love one of these patio heaters inside my workshop 😁
Well, I guess most people use these things relatively infrequently, when they want to sit outside in the freezing cold, and the bill doesn't amount to much. But you're right, more expensive if you have it on all day every day in a workshop!
@@arlo.guthrie Agree 100% mate. Sadly the government does nothing to cap the prices of energy - Back 50 years ago lots of people had these radiant infrared heaters everywhere, in the early 1980's we had one in the lounge with 3 x 1000 watt 24 inch long bars plus 2 x 40 (or 60 watt bulbs) to illuminate the fake fire wood in a lovely orange/red (which really gave the room some warmth !).... and I remember it was on 2 bars most of the time to heat up a large room in the winter (It was large Victorian villa house)... I also remember my mum just calmly paying the electric bill at the post office and it was around £150 - £200 for that quarter and not giving it a second thought !... Now if we ran that thing in 2024 all day for 3 months the bill from EDF would be £2,700 ! It's a great shame because I love those orange glowing radiant heaters that warm up all the furniture, not just their air ! Best of luck.
@@BITTYBOY121 I guess I love Mother Earth more than using old electrical technology. While this unit cranks out heat, would I be correct in assuming the product’s technology is less wasteful than similar units in the 1980s?
@@scorbett4370 Probably !... but 2 kw or 3 kw running for a few hours a day can really jack up your electricity bill... especially here in the UK where energy firms are charging double kw ! 😞
Why can’t I get this in the USA???? Been trying to get 4 of these the past several months. My friend got it on Amazon last year but it’s no longer on their site!
Here you go, I've posted a photo of the bracket under the community tab, here: ruclips.net/user/postUgw-F9RaLobTHe4u2K14AaABCQ. Hopefully that will answer your question. And thank YOU for the kind remark :)
Great review - thanks! I note the placement of your heater allows rain to fall on it - there is nothing really covering it above. Are you leaving yours up through the winter rain, or did you take it down for protection?
I can't remember exactly. Just went to measure it for you, but I've installed it and the cable is wrapped around stuff, so cant do it accurately. I think the main cable that comes with is around 2m, but you can also buy extensions, as I did, which add as much as another 5m: www.heat-outdoors.co.uk/lamps-and-stands/extension-cables-with-waterproof-1380871.html
Love the video, was going to buy a cheaper patio heater until I saw this,I’ve ordered a fatboy with remote but we need a stand for it which is out of stock.did you use heat outdoors extension lead or did you use your own.didn’t know if you have to use theirs because of the waterproof connectors or can the adapter be taken off the heater cable, thanks
Well, you might be able to find another stand made by another manufacturer that you could adapt. But it would have to be pretty hefty. The concrete base of one of those outdoor sun umbrellas might work (www.amazon.co.uk/PARASOL-HEAVY-FURNITURE-GARDEN-UMBRELLA/dp/B00CKJSK9M/). Buy 6 ft of metal tubing. Drill a couple of holes and Bob's your uncle! I used the Heat Outdoors extension because it is waterproof, but no reason I can think of why you couldn't use another waterproof connection.
@@arlo.guthrie thankyou for that idea, everyone has the same thoughts so stock is a problem.I’ve already got the correct cable and waterproof connectors and didn’t want to buy another one even though the connection on the heater side will be different,I take it that connection can be undone rather than cutting it off
Thanks for the review, very helpful. Have you tried the newer Shadow 2 ULG+ model? I was all set for the Fatboy but heating outdoors recommended the 3kw Shadow 2. Not sure if they’re just trying to sell me a more expensive model.
You could import one as NEMA 6-15/6-20 to BS1363A adapters are derp easy to build as long as you have a 240V receptacle to plug into, and these heaters are frequency agnostic and will run on 60cy/sec electricity no problem. 120V versions of these would be lower power due to the 1.44kW steady state limit of 15A 120V circuits.
Yes, I'm still happy with it. Does it get hot like it suggests on the website? I'm not sure how hot that is. Also, it depends on the outside air temp. I don't find it makes it warm enough to sit out in a t-shirt if it's 0 degrees outside. But after dark in the summer, I can. Does that give you a better sense?
I don’t know, but In a few weeks time, I’ll be getting a Weatherflow Tempest to review, and will wait till it gets to freezing then try sitting outside in my T-shirt again.
@@arlo.guthrie The 2.4kW rating is steady state as power does not have a time component. It does use 2.4kWhr of energy per hour at full load, but the hours cancel. Also, that would be 51.84p/hr running cost at full load. I'm an engineer. I have to be a pedant about terminology and units.
How have you ever heard of California in United States we can't keep the power on when the wind blows over 20 miles an hour or 3 course the population in the state turns their air conditioners on how are we gonna make an electric heater work
Heard of California? Had some of the best times of my life learning to fly from Long Beach. But why can’t you keep power on when wind blows? Do all those turbines in Palm Beach stop working when it’s over 20mph?!
@@arlo.guthrie Power lines get blown down and start fires when the wind blows. Rather than burying the lines, as should be done, PGE just shuts off the power if the wind blows. No plans to remedy the situation other than cutting power...so much for regulated utilities.

lovely review. kindly provide an opinion on the fatboy double if you could. thanks
The cheetoh face at the end made me lmfao 😂😂 , great and informative vid
Thank you, and glad you enjoyed it!
Does it come with a mounting that swivels? Yours appeared to swivel so if not how did you get it to swivel?
The mounting came with holes which meant you can fix it at 45 degrees or 90 degrees. Not sure it was designed to do that, but it worked for me.
Oh, and it was only a small piece of angle iron with some holes drilled, so it would be easy enough to get one made.
Haha brilliant. Wasn’t expecting a funny review but you made me laugh 😁
Glad to be of service!
