    Ouch!!! that ankle roll looked quote sore, though, you did recover quickly... Hills don't seem to agree with you? The guy in Orange (your brother I think you said before) he must know you don't like hills as he just took off in the Beauchief Golf Course 😉😉. Some lovely trails, woods and scenery around there... very well done and it looks an interesting challenge!

      Cheers!
      Yeah, it was quite painful, had eased enough after about 10 minutes to run fast on, but started hurting a lot again towards the end of the race. It took a good 4 or 5 days before I could get a shoe on to that foot due to the swelling though!
      Ay, there is some great scenery and trails around that area, and it's always challenging!

    2 hours 48 minutes and 30 seconds? Holy cow, this is a bit longer than your parkrun videos. Do we get a souvenir T-shirt for watching the whole thing? 😵‍💫

      Ay, a little longer than normal, but not the longest on here.
      Here's the commemorative t-shirt.. 👕 !

      It's a bit small but I'll take it.

    You nearly caught me! You started 40 minutes after me and ended up 10 minutes behind!
    Sorry about your ankle, such a shame as the Limb Valley stage was by far my favourite and set my confidence for the rest of the race after that hellish climb! It did give me a small laugh though, you stopped, hobbled and dropped your water and were only 30 seconds slower, and, I felt like i was flying 😂
    Cheers for the vid, great resilience and result considering.

      Cheers Tim!
      Yeah, I was enjoying the Limb Valley descent too, I managed to launch my bottle of water into a bush somewhere behind me when first spike of pain hit, it was the group of lads coming up the trail that retrieved it for me.. which was when I dropped it !
      What time did you get in the end?

      @@MattClarry 01:55 - 219th in MV40 🙈
      I only really started running this year and being 110kg currently, if I lose a bit of that and keep up the training I'm hoping to be 10-15 mins quicker next year.
      How much time do you reckon you dropped?

    • @MattClarry
      @MattClarry  Год назад

      That is a good time with only a few months of running, I'd be surprised if you didn't improve more than that next year!
      I think I probably dropped around 10 minutes-ish

    46:05 Casualty! Yikes. But hey let's not complain too much, you've still got _one_ good leg left.

    • @MattClarry

      Yeah, that hurt quite a bit, but managed to carry on, somehow !

    So, what's going on here with the walking/recovering business? I'm unfamiliar with this sort of event. What are the rules and the aim?

    • @MattClarry
      @MattClarry  Год назад +1

      It is essentially a half marathon, but split up into timed sections. The aim is to have both the lower individual stage times and overall combined time. I'm not aware of any other races quite like this one, but I'm sure there must be others.
      As for Rules, you need to hit the timing beacons at the start and end of each stage to record a time. There is then a rest/recover period to get to the start of the next stage. There is no cut off time, on the timed stage, but if you go over the allotted recovery, then the extra is added onto the next timed stage.

    • @BadCyborgMovies
      @BadCyborgMovies Год назад +2

      I see, thanks. I'm guessing that this structure is intended to get more people to take part, but also to be a potential stepping-stone towards doing an actual half marathon. Would that be about right?

    • @MattClarry
      @MattClarry  Год назад +1

      I think the original intent was to do something a bit different to your conventional half marathon and this way, they don't have to close any roads off for it either! And yeah, I think it gives a way in to do longer races, without having to run it all in one block.

    • @BadCyborgMovies
      @BadCyborgMovies Год назад +1

      Ah yes, good point about not having to close off roads.

  • @BadCyborgMovies

    That elevation chart along the bottom is handy, but I keep wondering what's going to happen when you get to that sudden dip near the halfway mark. A spot of abseiling off a cliff perhaps? We'll see…

    • @MattClarry
      @MattClarry  Год назад

      I think you might be disappointed !!

    • @BadCyborgMovies
      @BadCyborgMovies Год назад +1

      1:31:13 Indicator dot goes down the vertical bit on the elevation chart, but onscreen there's no elevation drop at all. And meanwhile the readout rapidly goes from about 167m down to about 54, before starting to climb. Something screwy here!

      @@BadCyborgMovies Yeah, I'm not sure what happened there, might be the trees interfering with the GPS

    I know I asked this last year, but forgot! :) Is the time between each checkpoint finish/start not counted in the overall time?... ie do you get allocated a certain amount of time to transition between stages? ... Love this event, looks fun! (without ankle rolls!!....do you think the HOKA's would have been better than the Speed 2's, which I find ok but a bit unstable on rough tracks) ... Still caned that last 400!!

    • @MattClarry
      @MattClarry  Год назад

      Ah ha, no worries, the time spent on the recovery stages isn't counted towards the finishing time, unless you go over the allotted time given for that section, then any excess is then added on to the following stage.
      Yeah it is a fun event, especially when I haven't rolled over on my ankle, took until Thursday before I could get my shoe on again!

    DO you have right/left gct balance on your Garmin data? WOuld be interested to know how much your ankle-roll affected it, as it started to sound uneven afterwards, but probably just imagined it. Well done for ploughing ahead, though I'm not sure I'd have taken the chance!

    • @MattClarry

      Cheers !
      Yeah, that would be interesting, unfortunately though, it doesn't have that option.
      It definitely felt unbalanced, had some overcompensation aches for about 4 days after!
