    Great to see you casting. I’m on the Euro setup journey myself and this has really encouraged me. I watch the American stuff ( I love a bit of Old Dominion Trout Bum) and I can see you doing similar casts. A Tuck cast as they call it. I have just bought some Sunset Amnesia to try the flat level micro leader setup as you mention.
    Keep the info coming, great stuff.
    Cheers, Jon

      Thanks again Jon, yeah Cory has shown me the way, he’s really quite inspiring, much of what I try to do is from watching him. There are many other top euro nymph anglers out there but I think he’s one of the best at explaining what and why he does it. Hopefully much more to come on the channel as we push through the seasons. Let me know how you progress👍

    Looks like you have mastered it. I’m so pleased to see some one in the Uk talking about actually casting the Euro setup rather than lobbing and fishing at distance. The Americans seem so hot on this and you are the first person I have seen actually talking about it in the uk.
    Tight lines.

      Thanks Gordon much appreciated, it can be productive but it’s like any form of fishing good days and bad. Well not bad days just something to learn from and move on. I prefer to be a bit more productive and this method certainly does that.

      Cheers buddy much appreciated. it’s an addictive method when you get into it, just stick at it. You can never go wrong with a few hares ears or pheasant tails, just have a range of sizes and bead weights and your go to go.

      Hi Gavin, it all depends on what species and how wild you want it. Loch Etive can be good for mixed species and some big spur dogs. Isle of Skye for big pollock and spur dogs

    Great tutorial explaining your approach and methods. Certainly caught the Grayling and even better on your own hand tied flies. Hey, mind what you're doing getting swept downstream. One wounded soldier is quite enough.

    Hi Douglas, just found your channel and am loving it and subscribed. I’ve recently moved to Balloch by Loch Lomond and am hoping to start mackerel fishing (which I haven’t done since I was a boy) this year. When do they become big enough to eat, and could you recommend some good spots for fishing them from the shore? I’m guessing Gare Loch is a good option and not too far from Balloch?
    All best,
    Jake

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks for watching and subscribing much appreciated buddy. The mackerel are bigger in size usually near the end of summer but you can still get big mackerel at the start of summer just not as many. Just stick at it and you will pick a few big ones out. Anywhere from Ardmore point all the way round to loch long can be good when the mackerel show up. Rhu is a hot spot but it can get busy with limited space especially when the tide comes in. On the opposite side off the base at Garelochead can also be good and busy at the big lay-by. As you may have seen from my mackerel videos you can catch them almost anywhere if they are there with the right method.

    That's a bit more like it. Like you, the short reach of the method was what has been putting me off. I like the idea of a set up that allows a longer cast. Might need to give this method some more time. Some nice fish there too.

      @@PiscatorUK-Fishing was your leader just 20ft of mono, rather than a French/Tapered leader? And how much does the nymphing fly line come into the cast?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  7 месяцев назад

      @@alexallanangling it’s more of a Spanish type leader no taper just level line 20ft. The euro fly line is just really used for managing the line with your non rod hand. The fly line never comes out of the tip of the rod, which seems like a waste but managing thin mono leader with wet and cold hands is a nightmare. Barbless flies Uk do a good line with braided core, it’s the cheapest around and it’s full length. You could cut it in half and split it between two reels, you get me? I cut the welded loop off and whip in a tiny loop and tie the mono leader to that, it goes through the guides easier.

    Another great video Douglas. Great to see you catching the grayling on a different methods. Is there any type of fishing you don’t do😂 it would be good to see you target trout later in the year. Keep up the great work.

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  7 месяцев назад

      Thanks buddy. I am going to do more euro nymphing and fly fishing through the year for trout, stay tuned for that. I enjoy most types of fishing mate but I don’t fish for salmon in fresh water, I think they’re in dire need of protection and should be left alone to do their thing.

    I have the nymphmaniac 11’ #2 I always have a dilemma choosing, what was your rationale for 10’ #3?

    • @PiscatorUK-Fishing
      @PiscatorUK-Fishing  5 месяцев назад

      Hi mate, great question it is the 10.6 3wt I’ve got. I had the same dilemma when I was choosing the rod in the first place. What swung it for me is I already had a 10ft 2wt nymph rod and I wanted a rod that could cast heavier nymphs, be able to do some light jig streamers with the euro line and to use it for light dry fly fishing. So I wanted more of an all rounder rod. The bigger disappointment for me in the 3wt is not being able to cast light nymphs, I can do it but I feel totally disconnected from the flies even when I use a 5x leader. In all honesty if I didn’t take the plastic of the handle before I tried the rod I would have taken it back and got another cheap 3wt nymph rod.
