The trial was relevant, during the era of ME TOO it was a public trial of whether or not women are just allowed to destroy men through accusations with no trial or whether we still have due process. I think this case answered the question.

i agree. i am super happy this is coming to light. as someone who has been falsely accused of abuse it's devastating. i can honestly say i would rather deal with physical abuse. i think it is really important to have people see in a public setting that women can be abusers, they just do it in a much more complicated way (often by playing the victim)

At the end of their relationship, Amber waited until Johnny was overseas, ran to court to get a exparte temporary restraining order, contacted TMZ to get the picture of a “bruise” on her face. And with that, JD’s career was flatlined. He was convicted in the media-there was no trial, no police report- just that bruise and Amber’s word that she suffered years of DV in her relationship.
While recovering from surgery, I had the time to watch the whole trial. Johnny had a very high bar to meet to win me over. I listened to Johnny’s side, and it was clear they had a toxic relationship. But when Amber got on the stand, my support for her disintegrated. She describe extreme violence-her broken noses, sliced feet, brutal rapes, vicious beatings-but no doctor visits, no stitches, no major bruises. Amber should have been jacked up the next day, but she always looked ever so lovely in her close-up photos and revealing dresses. Her testimony was incredible and in-credible. In so many ways, Amber Heard sank herself.
How can you comment on something you did not see? There are major discrepancies between the MSM narratives and the raw testimony. It is a bit mind boggling.
Watch the trial. Watch JD’s and watch AH’s testimony and redirects at least. Then talk about the verdict and all the residual fall out. Cameras in the courtroom was a good thing.

Less than 24 hours after the supposed incident of him bruising her face by throwing a phone into it, she is taped bringing Franco up to Depps condo in the elevator. Last night I watched that video again and paused it where they first entered into the elevator. Took a few attempts as they were hiding their faces. But finally got the shot if her face paused! No bruised or discoloration at all. Yes, I realize it was black and white film, still easy to see her pale white cheek with no marks. He was listed as one if her witnesses to verify her bruises. Maybe that's why he was there...but he refused to testify...

Two things, firstly, yes she absolutely could and would have been able to change the outcome if the case wasn't available to the public. The media was on her side 110%, and if they were our only window into the situation, they would've spun the absolute shit out of everything to make it look like she really was a victim of abuse and that Depp was a crazed monster. They still tried to do that, but there were just too many people paying attention this time for them to be able to succeed.
Second, the jurors being sequestered in the O.J. trial was the REASON they returned a not guilty verdict. The jurors all got sick of being sequestered and just wanted to go home, and the last jurors who were holding out because they knew O.J. was a murderer were bullied by the other jurors into agreeing to return a not guilty, because the majority of the jury was either sick of essentially being held against their will, or were idealogically animated by the abuse of Rodney King and just wanted to set a black man free regardless of anything that happened during the trial. The state was also really wanting the situation to go away, they were afraid of the L.A. riots repeating if they were to lock O.J. up. Just wanted that to be clear.

I get where he's coming from, and in pretty much any other situation a private trial would have been the better option, but this one had to be public. The entire lead-up played out in the court of public opinion, which Heard used to decimate Depp's career, so unless he fought back publicly he could only win a financial victory, and his image would still be in the dumpster.

    • @justinw1765

That and she co-opted an otherwise necessary/important movement for her own selfish gain. This trial, unfortunately, belonged to the world/public, because AH had made it so public and media oriented from the get go. And this is doubly sad because though Depp is an musician/actor/celebrity, he is still a deeply private person with a lot of concern of how things would affect his kids. Though, sometimes I wonder if karma might have been involved some in him leaving his marriage for a much younger, prettier woman i.e. to some extent chasing tail in a shallow way. But, I suspect he deeply regrets the whole decision at this point, from multiple angles.

Zachary has allowed the point of this trial, and the reason for the public's interest in it, to fly over his head and circumnavigate the world twice before crash landing behind him!
When somebody tells the whole world that you were an abusive partner, then you're perfectly entitled (if not impelled) to clear your name.
I can't speak for other people, but I was glued to this trial NOT because it exposed the intimate details of a relationship between two people but because it exposed, to the whole world, a narcissistic, lying and gold digging individual - and in doing so, it allowed a person, who's reputation had been demonstrably tarnished, to regain some of the respect that had been stripped away from him.
What I find staggering, is the amount of people who, despite all the evidence put before the jury, are still unable to accept the verdict BUT are more than happy to accept a decision made by a UK court, even though the US trial allowed more evidence to be seen/heard AND both Depp and Heard took to the stand to give evidence and to be cross-examined.
How anybody, who watched that trial from start to finish (like i did), can still be of the opinion that Amber wasn't a lying, narcissistic, abusive and manipulative gold digger, I do not know.
But that's why Johnny went with a public trial: too many people had been convinced by her lies and he needed to set the record straight.
And that's WHY we needed to see this on TV, Zachary.

Just myself... I know a few men who's wives accused them of horrific things in court - which were 100% lies - and ruined their reputation and lives. Just ruined. My bro in law's brother wife was, like AH, diagnosed by a professional with borderline personality disorder - and the court still sided with her. And everyone knew she was batshit crazy. He had to escape into different rooms of the house like Depp to avoid the abuse. The culture needs to change - awareness of this - to put pressure on the system to change so the outcomes are more fair. This is why the public airing of the Depp trial was so important. People should stop judging and giving their opinions on such sensitive case like this unless they know the facts and watched the whole thing from the beginning to the ending. Put yourself in Johnny's shoes, wouldn't you want the world to know that you're the one who's been abused not the other way around?

If the trial had not been public, your interpretation of it would have been second hand through legacy media. Justice needs more transparency, not less. I agree the whole thing was distasteful, but the gamble that Depp took was his only option besides swallowing the outrageous accusations. Some of the reaction videos were just part of the circus, but some content had real value, e.g. the lawyer commentaries.

But the trial humanized America in a time when there was an uncertainty. It also gave Americans the ability and perhaps people around the world a time to look inside themselves to see that their perception of a certain person or situation what is incorrect and that it's important to find the facts in situations like the pandemic the war in Russia and many other things going on at that time and that are still currently going on.
