I lived through this era as a teenager. Ozzy took a massive risk to make and front a new band on a very tight budget. This footage is from after hours television from Rochester, NY in the middle of exhaustive touring. The band just replaced bassist Bob Daisley with Rudy Sarzo (at Randy's insistence) and they had a lot to prove at the time. Ozzy gave everything to make this band work and frankly was just happy to rock and have hard earned success with talented musicians that he adored. Ozzy of course was mortified with Randy's death but played on through interviews and live shows with incredible courage to continue through the changes to come. Saw Ozzy in Kansas City Feb 1982. We had 1st Row. Randy was right in front of us. A week later he was killed tragically. I was devastated. He was the best guitarist in my eyes. I still believe it to this day.
enginekid88 we all need to say a prayer for Dolores Rhodes and Randy Rhoads especially need to say a prayer for his mother and we need all need to say thank you Miss Delores Rhoads for sharing your son with the world and what I mean by that Randy Rhoads mom Dolores roads rest in peace mrs. rose thank you for sharing your son tell your son we will never forget him
It's a cognitive bias, check it out. When we look back at music in the past, we aren't considering all the shitty bands from the '80s. Because who remembers them? Even with movies. I don't think anyone on this planet would hear someone say they love old Star Wars and respond with "yeah wasn't that Christmas special so cool" Y'all just need to probably find more music. I mean there's literally so much more out there these days. I like '80s thrash metal. I also like modern thrash metal. It's not like the old days where you have a record shop in the radio as you're only sources of new music. It's so much better
Also my mom used to say the same thing about the '60s and how the 80s and 90s were coming down from that peak of music quality. So I think it's just an old person intuition to think that today's you have bad music. I mean Plato wrote the exact same thing about the youth's music thousands of years ago. And I'm certain our great great great grandkids will say the same thing too.
After all these decades, Randy still shines among shredders. He was more melodic 99% of the others, and had the finesse of a blues guitarist. He was so young, and he told an interviewer that he was still developing. What a loss!
While out on tour, sometimes Randy would look at the Yellow Pages phone books during lulls and searched for classical guitar teachers to work with. He was interested in branching out beyond his rock/metal roots.
For some reason, I just don't associate Blues with the word "finesse".....nothing at all against blues players, it just seems odd to me to hear a phrase like that. Randy had finesse, no doubt!
i know randy gets most of the credit and deservedly so, but tommy on the drums was a monster. one of the greatest and coolest rock and roll drummers ever
Agreed. I think most focus on Randy because of how tragically short his life was cut. He was a genius. But you are 💯 right! Tommy is extremely underrated.
Tommy Aldridge is a fuckin Monster on the drums ,and he gives them a good fuckin smack as well , just like it should be ,the whole band awesome could be the best line up tight as fuck
Why is it so hard to spell "Rhoads" correctly? Jeez!! Btw, Lambert, Randy was Zakk's favourite guitarist, that already tells more than enough about who is better. Of course Randy is better, as much as I love Zakk Wylde, I have to say that Randy was more melodic, soulful and technical, he truly was one of the greatests!
Interesting comment because, two of them were not supposed to be there. Of course, Rudy and Tommy were great and went on to great things in Music. The original line up was Lee Kerslake on Drums. Who was an incredible drummer, and the person who wrote the Drum Tracks. Also, Bob Daisley was the original Bass player who wrote most of the music and lyrics to not just this album but, much of Ozzy's work thereafter.
@@DetroitWrecker666 ozzy owes Bob Daisley his whole career... wrote songs for Ozzy all the way up to No More Tears.. which most of that album was written by Lemmy, Zakk and Bob Daisley

Rhoads, Sarzo, Aldridge, Lee, Wylde, Pete Way, Castillo on drums. Hell, Robert Trujillo is an Ozzy alum . . . it's truly stunning how many high level players he has had with him in studio and on tour.
What a lineup. Aldridge back then was a beast. Sarzo arguably is the best hard rock bassist ever. Randy, well, Randy is Randy. He almost never even looked at the fretboard. He played those crazy licks just by feel. It was effortless for him. Ozzy couldn't get the smile off his face during this performance. It was as if Ozzy had gone to musical heaven. He had.

I just NEVER get tired of simply watching any footage of Randy Rhoads playing - such a master of the instrument. He had it ALL in spades: the look , the talent , the creativity, the presence, the showmanship, his own “voice” on guitar etc…
Anyone else hear those bass harmonics during the break? Sick live version. What a serious loss to the music world. No one plays this clean & tight live.
Max Mustermann im one of those people lol. for the most part the only time i listen to a studio version with Randy Rhoads is if there isn't a live version of it lol
Definitely one of the greatest. Too many awesome players out there to just select one. I personally cannot name one of my favorites to be the all-time best. They're all different and excellent in their own way
You most certainly are! I paid $10 bucks each for a few copies of original photos of Randy. The guy who sold them to me was the shop owner who took the photos. He said he was surprised I knew it was Randy. I said from age 14 or 15 I was hooked on Ozzy especially with Randy on the guitar. I’m glad to hear stories of people who were there.
I'm always amazed with all the bootlegs that come out, just how ferocious a live player he was. Rarely having an off night, bringing the goods show after show. The studio albums are great but its the live show that really sets him apart. What was he playing? The Les Paul or polkadot V?
Taped one of the best guitar performance too in the rock history according to me.I think many people didn't know Randy Rhoads until they listened to this song,I was one of them.
Even though I never knew him, I love and miss him everyday. He is the reason I ever attempted to play guitar. Every note mattered. His talent is just otherworldly.
Same man. Every note was deliberate and well thought out. It was never mindless shredding. He snuck some of that in there for sure, but it always worked with the melody of the song. Always will be my favorite.
Ozzy is one of the most underrated singers in rock. His style is completely his own, and his phrasing/inflection is so original. No one can sing it like the Wizard of Ozzy.
I have heard he wanted to quit being a rockstar to be a guitar teacher and study classical music, so I guess we would have a brillant classic guitarist today who had a short experience in the metal scene
It was even way better than this during the Sabbath days.. Ozzy's vocals definitely peaked around the mid 70s. On the album "Sabotage" his voice sounds incredible.
It's such a shame we don't have more concert footage of Randy, small little gem's like this, and not many, he is definitely one of the the reasons I started playing guitar.
Ozzy and Sharon do have unreleased live footage. Idk why they won’t release it but they recorded every concert. Tell me they didn’t because we have footage of brad gillis and Joe holmes at different times
Be lucky you saw him.. I never did except video. Seen OZZY 5 times , Ultimate Sin was 1st concert and it was mind blowing. But seeing video like this (audio sucks) I wish I could have seen Randy Rhodes live.

There are so few of them in such excellent quality. I remember hearing this composition a long time ago in the late 80s, a cool riff. I knew that Ozzy Osbourne had a guitarist who died. But I didn’t know all the details of who it was, etc., etc. But now that there is complete information about the musical path of this unique guitarist, we understand that this music was written by Betokhovin of the 20th century in rock music. Rhoades inspired many players to grab a pick and ax to practice those licks. He on the other hand also made many players give up. He is playing for the God that he loved,!

Rhoads, Sarzo, Aldridge: Ozzy's best line up!
don't forget the amazing Don Airey!!
Well let's not forget the original original lineup.. Bob daisley, Lee kerslake, Randy rhoads and of course Ozzy.. that was the band recorded through the second solo album.. don't get me wrong sarzo and Aldrich filled-in just great...but you got to give credit where credit is due!
First of all, Tommy's last name is Aldridge, not Aldrich. Second, Plus Don Airey on Blizzard and Johnny Cook on Diary on Keyboards.

Music was so much better in the 80s than it is now.
seriously
Bro that's so true!!! My friends keep on bugging me about how I don't like modern music. I mean seriously, there's nothing to even bug me about.
Glad I lived through it 😊
It's a cognitive bias, check it out.
When we look back at music in the past, we aren't considering all the shitty bands from the '80s. Because who remembers them?
Even with movies. I don't think anyone on this planet would hear someone say they love old Star Wars and respond with "yeah wasn't that Christmas special so cool"
Y'all just need to probably find more music.
Randy Rhoads is either an Alien Being or an Angel sent from Heaven!

The songs with Randy did not need vocals
@@MrKennyanders I can make that argument for Perry Mason, Miracle Man, Shot in the Dark, No More Tears, Patient No 9 etc

What a lineup. Aldridge back then was a beast. Sarzo arguably is the best hard rock bassist ever. Randy, well, Randy is Randy. He almost never even looked at the fretboard.
