    Sitting here with a broken foot, since 4 month in recovery. They tell you it takes 6-8 weeks, but man, everyone I know of had a couple of month "fun" with it. Last week I had my very first ride since a long time, loved it.

    What a great journey. You just never know what will happen out there. Sorry to hear about your friend’s broken foot. Glad he is okay otherwise. You really got to see some beautiful parts of the world on this one and shared more with us about the realities and risks that come with motorcycle travel. So, thank you. Glad you and your trusty T7 made it back home safe and sound as well buddy. 👍🏾
    I have been thinking about your ideas on a van and an enduro bike combo off and on since you posted your last video. I think I am starting to see what you are saying more. It does make sense on many levels especially for really long trips like these. Enduro bikes and the idea of having a van are just awesome anyway, so there really is no downside to that move. Thanks again for sharing your trip. Wish you well. Take care.

      Happy to hear you enjoyed it, and thanks a lot for watching.
      With regards to the van setup, yeah I think it makes a lot of sense. I don’t think I’d travel all the way down to Spain again in a van to do the TET, but rather go to a place that has a lot of technical offroad where an enduro really shines, then do day rides and sleep comfortably in the van.
      Cheers my friend 😊

    More wonderful stuff, thanks Johannes. Now, I have a theory…heavy bikes can also mean more injuries when bike and rider interface during a crash. I have suffered many high speed crashes on lightweight enduro and MX bikes in my time and never broken anything. But came VERY close to a broken foot myself when my huge ADV bike fell on me. I am sure that heavy ADV bikes actually contribute to injuries. It’s simple physics - over 100 kilos of extra weight to squash the rider with!

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад

      Thanks Kym!
      Yeah I think that makes perfect sense, just a simple tipover can be pretty nasty when dealing with a 200kg + bike.

    So you answered you own question about the buying the van. When riding the French back roads it was FUN. T7 for travelling. Back , small or dirty roads with tyres like the Conti Trial 3. ACT type routes on 50/50 rubber. TET on the dirt bike. As others have pointed out , van plus 2 , 3 bikes is a lot of money and time. If you get a van , how about a rental van ?

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад +2

      Absolutely, I had a blast on my T7, but the overall distance was a bit too much.
      Yeah, two bikes and a van sure isn’t cheap, but at the same time all I do and breathe is motorcycles, I have no other expense. I might rent a van to test the setup out, but I’m still pretty sure about thr van + dirt bike setup. Let’s see what the future holds 😊

      Well, it took two full days to get Shem (guy with the broken foot) ready for his flight back home so we spent some time helping him. And to be completely honest, I was very tired at that point, a few days in Barcelona was both fun and relaxing. We’ll finish it sometime in the future 😁

    I'm actually riding alone from France to the South of Portugal on the TET and ACT and one of my concerns is how to recover the bike once that I may be injured. Some ambulance will probably do everything to reach me, but the bike with all my belongings...? How did you recover your bro's bike then??

  • @kuhndj67
    @kuhndj67 Год назад

    Riding that aggressively on loose stone will definitely result in the occasional dirt nap (especially on big bikes)... it's fun though so I do it too... but risky. I'd suggest you pick up a Satcom device (I use the Bivystick but there are a number of good options) so when an emergency does happen you can reach services immediately. They're cheap insurance IMO.
    Also... what boots was he wearing? Doesn't sound like they protected him very well.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад

      Sometimes we can’t help it, and we ride to have fun, right? 😁
      We all agreed that a satcom device would have been clever, as we often found ourselves out of cellphone service.
      I want to say Forma adv boots if I recall correctly - his first question after the crash was «do you think I would have been without a broken foot if I wore mx boots?»

    Hi Johannes, I'm thinking of the Huskyvarna 701 Enduro as my 2nd bike, I already have a GS 1250. Could you say exactly what the oil leak problem was with yours? Which part had to be replaced? Is it related to the clutch slave? Thanks man.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад +1

      Hey Marco! The 701 would make for an excellent second bike to your GS for sure. I had a minor leak from the water pump housing, it was a bad gasket they replaced under warranty. The leak itself was so minor I could probably have kept on riding for a long time without any issues. The clutch slave issue was fixed in 2021 if I'm not mistaken, so that's not something to worry about anymore.

    Its hard to get a read on how you really feel and did on this adventure... The trip was definitely an experience, but I don't get the feeling it was particularly a good one. Personally, I would not try to cover so many miles with that combination of riding disciplines. The T7 seems to small for so many highway miles and too big(especially loaded) for single track. Then there's the whole tire issue... What's good for 1000's of road miles isn't going to work in rough off-road terrain and vice-versa.

    • @JohannesDalen
      @JohannesDalen  Год назад +1

      Yeah I get that it is a bit hard to read me here - I had an absolute blast, and like every adventure we had both ups and downs, but in total I’m very happy all things considered. Met two fantastic guys that I look forward to riding with again in the future.
      When it comes to bike choice, I’m happy with the T7 too, it was the amount of time spent on the highway that had me a bit tired, besides that I enjoyed it a lot. Heavy in certain situations, absolutely, but I knew that going into this. Thanks for watching 😊

      Haha! I don’t think Spain showed itself from its best side on this trip when it comes to food, we didn’t eat out all that much, so Portuguese wins it so far 😅
