Morning Eric! Elrich here - had the same issue in my 335i. No rich codes or codes of any kind, just fuel trims slightly off at idle and I’d feel tiny misses. The failure was a lot smaller so the smell check didn’t even help.
Ended up pulling the injectors out, flipping them over on the hardline and relightening. I pulled coil pack plugs and then turned the car over to get HP build up. I had a piece of cardboard underneath and got a nice solid trip out of 5 out of 6 injectors. Two were much worse than the others.
1800 bucks in parts for that fix! Ugh.
Hope the smell comes back soon - one of the best tools in the box.

I’ve done the injectors on the SRX. Here are tips I can give.
To get to them, I taped off the intake passages , then used a 1/2” belt sander to take off about 1 mm on each side of inside intake rails. That little bit let’s the injector rails out with ease!
You don’t need the special tool to put in retainer clips. You can use a set of channel locks and position them just right. Then squeeze!

Cadillac seems to have a habit of doing things the "hard way". I think it's because they try for "innovative" and end up straying from proven design concepts. It also leads to the "Special Tool" thing as well. Examples like the 4.1HT (freestanding sleeves leading to blown head gaskets that needed a whole 'kit' - essentially an engine rebuild less lower end - and it's DFI integrated into the radio. Then there's the Northstar line, too many issues to mention, but the $900 water cooled alternator and starter under the intake come to mind. I'm not real familiar with the big 3.0, but GDI in general is a bad idea with inherent issues, injectors running diesel pressures without diesel lubricity, intake fouling, etc.
There's a premium price on Caddys that extends to parts. Bet that injector is pretty pricy and probably special order. I doubt NAPA (not a sponsor) will have one.
Hope we get to see the injector changeout. Thanks, as always, for taking the time to share!

Cadillac being the premium brand it gets all the newest fanciest stuff. Which means that’s where it also gets developed along with any problems.

@@NBSV1 Very true. A lot of the stuff is groundbreaking, like the limp home mode that allows the Northstar to run for miles with no coolant by dropping cylinders and still making 400hp when healthy. You would never know what's there until you put the pedal down. Then, in the same motor, they did several "what were you thinking?" moves. My dad had one, a 400hp Coupe de Ville, and it was amazing, but he had to sell it, as neither he nor many people can afford to own onw out of warranty. The CTSV with the blower is just incredible in an Escalade, albeit it expensive, and not without an issue or 2. I guess it's really a super premium brand, as the long term cost of ownership is very steep.

Classic GDI, the mist in the cylinder is usually my tip off but a puddle, that's one heck of a leak.
