I kind of think Nathan needs to sit back and just let them gradually begin to like Steve. Majority of people do see Steve as a bad guy in the beginning, this is the typical response. But I do understand why he wants to defend his fav haha

One of the many great things about this show is CHARACTER GROWTH. The Duffer Brothers do it so effectively. Another thing is their uncanny ability to introduce a new character and make you fall in love with them instantly. They do this in every season following this one.
exactly i died laughing when they were like steve is the worst character bc season 2-now truly redeemed him from that douchebag he was in season 1 and he’s now one of the most beloved characters. my favorite thing about this show is the character growth and that nothing is what it seems at first glance
Also theres a bunch of characters that i didnt like at first but then they turn out to be pretty cool, like steve, hopper, doctor owens and bob

Nah, I disagree with you on this one. When you drag your friend to a party, you don't then tell them to leave when you want to have "fun" all of a sudden, especially when the friend expresses concern that you're not making the best decision. Nancy could've asked Steve to drive Barbara home to make sure she was safe. Then, they could've gone back to Steve's house for their hook-up. Nancy abandoned her friend for dick.

@@bresworldd3440 Lol I honestly appreciate the Nancy defense 'cause I love her character, but she still messed up with Barb, and being in love doesn't excuse her poor choice especially because Nancy is a smart person. Her brother's friend went missing in the middle of the night, resulting in a town-wide curfew. Yet, she still told her friend to leave a house seemingly in the middle of nowhere alone in the middle of the night. She couldn't ask her to wait in the living room or a spare bedroom? I'm just saying Nancy had so many more (and much safer options) and she chose the extremely risky one. P.S. Sorry about the essay.

I do think it was sad that Nancy told her to leave but she was a "perfect" straight up teenager trying to live one risky experience, they're teenagers.

Barb was just being a good friend, watching over Nancy coz let's face it, it wasn't a good idea to leave her tipsy straightlaced friend with a questionable guy, what if sth went wrong. Also, they had parked quite far nd by now everyone knows how the demogorgon can smell blood, she couldv very well been taken while walking to her car too so no, barb wudnt live if she left her friend there nd tried going home as well. Yea sure no one wud expect a monster showing up but everyone knew a boy went missing around the area recently so it was an extremely careless thing to say. Nancy was getting mad at Steve later on for not being much worried about barb going missing when she herself didn't care about her brothers lil friend going missing even tho they came over to their place all the time nd were pretty close. Nancy only started growing after losing barb, she was a terrible character before that.

She didn’t kill her, but she did drag her there.. I’ve always been told to look out for my girl friends when we go out(you don’t leave one behind, especially with a boy after y’all have been drinking), so I’m assuming that’s all Barb was trying to do..
As far as the creature part, she didn’t know, but she did know one of her brother’s best friends was missing (the quiet and timid one at that)
Yes she was being a teenager… having fun.. but this was clearly the writers way of showing how careless everyone were and still are in small towns sometimes..

Okay everyone, I know that y'all want to defend your favourite character and stuff. But try to do it without giving any spoilers. I know it's hard, it's hard for me too to not defend my fave, but you have to let the guys watch the show in peace and decide if they like the characters or not.
You guys had me actually laughing out loud. Real laughing, not smiling and chuckling. And Miles egging you all on, then looking at the canera, laughing, was the icing on the cake! Thanks for the comedy guys...lol
I know you don’t like Nancy very much but give it a thought; she’s a teenage girl that’s been catalogued as a goody two shoes her whole life and now she finally feels like people in school see her, she just wants to fit in. Almost every nerdy highschool girl tries to do the stuff that popular kids do in hopes of being perceived as “cool” and “fun” too, because being nerdy usually comes in hand with being lonely. Especially for girls. And she looks like she’s genuinely having a good time, its kinda shitty that Barb keeps exposing her “Nance this isn’t you”, “Nance you don’t like parties or drinking”: people change, and it is embarrassing when you try to fit in with a certain crowd and just when you’re starting to be liked your friend makes it seem that your sense of fun isn’t authentic. There’s nothing wrong with girls who like to drink and party and hook up with people, there’s nothing shameful about it and Nancy is just learning that.
Exactly, I get that Barb is just trying to protect her tho. Neither one is in the wrong. The situation was just unfortunate. Steve wasn't even really in the wrong (at least at that point) either. Sure, he's been kind of pressuring Nancy, but he's backed off whenever she's told him to. Bare minimum, I know...

There’s a difference between having charm/game and playing the nice guy😂.. Steve just like Nancy is just a teenager… he’s very questionable.. but I think that’s cause the writers knew we’d go in rooting for the outcast to get the girl over the jock..

It’s NOT Nancy’s fault that Barb got attacked by a monster. She wouldn’t have been able to stop it regardless and maybe Nancy would have been attacked as well. Plus Barb did not stay to wait for Nancy, she stayed cause she was feeling upset but it was clear that Nancy wasn’t going home anytime soon. Barb got taken at her own risk.

I just watched the reaction and omg. Don't forget that it takes place in the 80s, and yes, people were there was smoking and underage drinking all the time. Teenagers disrespecting a parent it's still happening and we've all have done it at least once. Nancy is not responsible for Barb going missing, that's bullshit.

Steve didn't do anything wrong here and neither did Nancy... I mean, Nancy should've never forced barb into going with her, but that's it, what's so wrong about her wanting to sleep with Steve? Barb said it wasn't her cause she wasn't there yet herself, but Nancy fell in love and wanted to sleep with her boyfriend and there's nothing wrong about that, it means she's growing up, not that she's becoming a different person.

I’m sure barb wasn’t projecting - she was just concerned for her friend because it was very clear that she was doing things that were out of character for her. If you’re implying the girl fell in love with Steve within like what a week? Two weeks the so be it 🤷🏽♀️ but it’s clear that they were a very new relationship. Steve didn’t do anything wrong, however the way he comes off in the first season is like he’s just trying to get in her pants, like he doesn’t really care about her like that. It’s not his first time, so it’s not special to him, but it seemed like it was special for Nancy - I feel bad for her. Kinda gives off the feeling that she got played. Even in the current season Steve acknowledges how she changed him. Which would imply that his intentions in relationships prior were not always pure. Just my two cents - this is why I believe most people don’t like Steve in the beginning.

This show works on stereotypes of 80s movie characters in the beginning and round them all out to be so three dimensional by the current season. You will learn to love so many characters and learn to understand the others

But I have no problem in admitting I didnt like him at all in S1. He was just another rich pretty boy with no real purpose.

Both Jonathan and Steve made some questionable decisions this season. But they're high schoolers, they're allowed to be a little stupid.
Nancy also made her friend drive home alone late at night, which even in small town Hawkins is a dangerous thing to do.
But it isn’t usually dangerous. It’s the 80s (I think). Which means a lower crime rate. The chief said that the worst thing that happened in Hawkings was an owl making a nest on some womans hair. So driving back home alone isn’t normally considered dangerous. That’s why the four kids were allowed to ride bikes at night. Will got lost on his own as far as the characters are aware.
Barb was gonna leave Nancy in her house then drive alone to hers anyway.

First of all to the newbies. Nancy told Steve that she would meet him somewhere so she could study but Nancy’s mom told her she couldn’t go out so he decided to come over. You gotta remember he is 1yr older than Nancy. She’s a sophomore and he is a junior. Steve becomes a beloved character.
