Sam being deaf worked really well and added a layer of difficulty to Henry and Sam's journey. They were the ones TRUELY playing on the hardest difficulty 😮💨
I was dreading this episode from the start of the show and boy, it did not disappoint. Sam being even younger than in the game just made that whole final sequence that much more gut-wrenching. All I could think about was his cute little laugh earlier in the episode 😭
The scene where Ellie tries to cure and comforts Sam with a hug was really sad, like people wants to be in the zombie apocalypse 'cause it's fun? No it's actually depressing
Thi - this is by far the best episode yet ... Yesus I wasn't getting that loving warm bond from Joel and Ellie yet but I immediately fell in love with the Henry and Sam actors that I quickly felt like I was really watching The Last of Us ...... The Sam and Henry actors sold the episode and had me hooked on the spot and this is the first episode where we see good pacing (Not too slow to let a scene drag out but not too fast to rush into the meaningful details) , the scenes kept me at the edge of my seat and there was so much heart wrenching moments and don't get me started on thAT BADASS INFECTED MOMENT AND HOLY SHIT THAT BLOATER 🔥🔥🔥 Bro this is the first time I legit got so creeped out and scared for the characters when the infected came rushing in ..... Fucking World War Z headass zombies 😂 AND THEY HAD JOEL SHOOTING THE INFECTED/HUNTERS WITH THE SNIPER WHILE PROTECTING HENRY, SAM, AND ELLIE ... I LOVE HOW THEY KEPT THAT DETAIL IN ..... Oh Kathleen's death felt so good like I was so excited that we finally got rid of that bitch and we can move on with the story ........ Pedro's performance was more recognizable as Joel in this one ... His mannersims and his tone was more reminiscent of Papa Joel's rough exterior and empathetic side ...... I also wasn't happy with Sam being deaf when I first heard the news but then I quickly forgot and accepted it because of how amazing this episode was and how protective I found myself of Sam ... Also him being deaf made his scenes much more intense and fucked up god damn this kid is an incredible actor ..... I got hyped when we finally heard the word, " Clicker ....." Ellie wanting to save Sam is an example of a good deviation from the game because the fate of the character doesn't change and then we see how desperate Ellie was to save him that she hoped so badly that her blood would heal him but unfortunately we can't escape our consequences ....... Also, I liked Ellie when we were first introduced to her but then she started to have an attitude, and seemed more edgy and had a darker side when she sliced that stalker's face with no emotion but then she started to be more recognizable as Ellie throughout the show ... Especially in this episode since she was more lighthearted, protective and had great chemistry with Sam, and I loved how she teased and made fun of Joel's voice and we got the sense of how she knows him that well now ..... What a beautiful cinematic episode, amazing performances, intense and BADASS infected scenes , so much tension , high stakes, stellar attention to lore details with Ish's family and the comics, also what an emotional and heartwrenching episode ... Did anyone else notice how Henry explaining how he is a bad guy who has done a bad thing just to protect Sam is foreshadowing Joel killing The Fireflies ( The Bad Thing ) to protect Ellie .... Man that was genius ...... This is what The Last of Us is about ........
The Bloater and Joel with the sniper was done PERFECTLY. I can't praise them enough. I'm definitely still feeling good about Ellie. She's still on my good side. Everyone had a fantastic performance this episode. I cannot complain about anyone's acting. Everything the show did differently from the game was done so well, I can't even hate on it. As a dude that played the original game back in 2013 I gotta say I couldn't agree with you more! This Joel doesn't feel as bad ass as OG Joel was and I think a lot of it was the little dialogue changes for the show. But that aside the ending was amazing! Shout out to the actor playing Henry he killed it

As someone who has played the first game multiple times and watched multiple playthroughs this episode was incredibly difficult for me. I absolutely adored Sam, and every scene with him I felt them twisting the knife further because I knew what was coming. I also wasn’t sure how they would do Sam and Ellie’s bond but I think it was flawless which only made me hurt even more knowing what would come next. I feel like this episode is one of the best for both game fans and non game fans because if you’ve played the game you’re falling in love with Sam and Henry but knowing you’ll be heartbroken the whole time and if you haven’t played the game you experience the hope that Ellie does and the care for the two of them that Joel grows only to have it torn away. Beautifully done episode and the bloater entrance was phenomenal. I loved that they show him just how he is in the game, he’s so difficult to kill and those deaths?! Just like the game. For those of you that haven’t played if you get caught by the bloater he will either throw you around like he did with the people at the beginning or he will rip your head off like he does with Perry.
Yesss knowing what's coming is definitely a different viewing experience. I envy pple who've never played the games before because if it still hits hard and we know what happens, I know they're feeling it lol thanks for watching & commenting! 💪🏾
I didn't mind Sam Being deaf I felt like it added more to his short appearance in the episode without wasting time on extensive dialogue so that by the end his fate was more impactful within the hour episode. I really enjoyed this episode, def best episode so far, the bloater was wild, really well done even though it was only for a few seconds. Kathleen, I liked her as an antagonist but damn was she annoying in her hypocritical way of thinking I'm glad they didn't drag her out to be the 'main villain of S1'. Also, this show was good showing how the infected are the 'strongest' not probably the right word but the way the entire team was wiped out was really well done. Despite the absolutely stupid plan of forcing the infected underground knowing the fungus would develop...this could've been avoided if they killed the infected years earlier. Absolute respect to the child actress who played the clicker those movements were so well done. Cried at the end again, also Ellie I'm really starting to enjoy, her moments with Sam were cute, and seeing the sadness when Henry killed himself was so well done, the focus on Sam And Ellie made me okay Sam was younger than in the game, the trust they had in one another was so wholmesome and to see Ellie's attempt of saving him fail was really well-written. All in all a really well-done episode and my new personal favorite, it was just amazing, really sad like episode 3

This is going to be a TMI comment of the week. I had to pause when Ellie and Sam are looking at the comic book. I had an accident 8 years ago this month. I have a long thin scar on my leg where they had to operate to clear a blocked artery. They didn't know if they were going to have to amputate the leg because it had been losing its warmth by the time I made it to the hospital. I spent 5 months in the hospital, had to learn how to walk again. It took everything out of me to get back up and not just say "f*ck it, I'll stay a cripple". I fought and suffered every day so I would regain a little bit of my mobility. 3 years ago a friend of mine who's a tattoo artist tattooed on my leg the biggest "f*ck you" Karma ever received. I answered one of my all time favorite Game Of Thrones' quote. "There is only one God and his name his Death. And what do we say to Death?" So above the thin scar, I had the words "Not Today" written Underneath the thin scar, I have another favorite quote of mine, taken from the best video game story of all time. "Endure and Survive" I had been waiting for this moment ever since I started watching the show. I'm a cry baby, so you can be damned sure I was crying my eyes out just watching Sam teaching Ellie how to sign it

This is the tamest HBO show I've ever seen and an adaptation of one of the most graphically violent games ever made. I'm still not convinced in the show that Joel did terrible things to people in the past. Game-Joel would have put a bullet between that old man sniper's eyes right as he got into the room and had zero remorse. That's the ruthless Joel we need in order to really sell the Abby storyline. Also, Kathleen was a hemorrhoid....so annoying

15:38 - I know you want to see Joel catch bodies like he did in the video game, BUT (hear me out), even though this is on HBO, there *might* be people who haven't played the game so they don't know what a beast Joel can be, both to humans who get in his way and everything else. Since this is a show, they don't want to flood it with bodies dropping left and right. They're telling a story that they don't want to be too violent. I get it, but as a show, they want deaths to be earned for lack of a better word. Most people don't go around dropping bodies unless they're a psychopath. I'm thinking that they don't want to paint Joel with that brush.
I'd be okay with that if they didn't establish Joel as "not a good person" and Joel killing pple without thinking of consequences is the whole reason for Last of Us II so that doesn't really work for the show imo

Yeah, but I think Henry would've still killed himself. He may not have done it right away, but his little brother was all he was fighting for. Without him, I'm sure the guilt would've killed him slowly
The only thing I really wanted to see that they didn't do was the Ellie and Joel jumping off the bridge scene. I thought in this format they could have made that shot and moment even more epic. Even if the reason why they had to jump was different than the game. When they showed the glimpse of the bridge and all of the people starting to come after them man I just thought we might get it. Still, I'm amazed with this episode. They did an extreme job and I kind of like this version of the Henry and Sam ending better. Speaking of that, the guy who played Henry was phenomenal. He acted his ass off with the little time in the show he got. They've done a great job with making you feel characters in just an episode or two so that when they die, it still holds weight even in that little of time.

But we didn't have that luxury in the games because we were controlling the person. I wish ellie had told joel and henry about sam being bitten bc then henry could have had more time to say bye to sam and then he wouldnt have to be the one to shoot him (joel could). Then maybe henry would survive.
Yeah, but I think Henry would've still killed himself. He may not have done it right away, but his little brother was all he was fighting for. Without him, I'm sure the guilt would've killed him slowly
The only thing I really wanted to see that they didn't do was the Ellie and Joel jumping off the bridge scene. I thought in this format they could have made that shot and moment even more epic. Even if the reason why they had to jump was different than the game. When they showed the glimpse of the bridge and all of the people starting to come after them man I just thought we might get it. Still, I'm amazed with this episode. They did an extreme job and I kind of like this version of the Henry and Sam ending better. Speaking of that, the guy who played Henry was phenomenal. He acted his ass off with the little time in the show he got. They've done a great job with making you feel characters in just an episode or two so that when they die, it still holds weight even in that little of time.
Yes, I had that bridge scene in mind, but I figured they'd skip it tbh. & YES the man playing Henry killed it. Both him and Sam did. I loved this episode, the show definitely did this chapter well

Thanks! & yea I figured some pple would be put off by that lol they say that Joel and Tess weren't "good pple" but they tend to shy away from the brutality of this world a lot. But we didn't have that luxury in the games because we were controlling the person. Not a huge complaint just me being curious as to why have a TV-MA show about pple killing pple and infected killing pple if you are going to cut away most of the time.
