@@pablobigpopsthats pretty objective, e.g. gamemodes such as sky battle or battle box are very competitive and r in newer versions, also 1.9 pvp is very, very competitive if you look at top players. It also has many different options, so u can play sword, axe, crystal netherite/dia pot, uhc etc.. its likely to say, that as a 1.8 pvper u think that 1.9 pvp isn't complicated and competitive and as a 1.9 pvper u think that 1.8 isn't that competitive, but as someone who spent a lot of time in both versions of combat, I can tell that both r extremely hard to get good at, although it was way harder for me to get good at 1.9 pvp!
Like many players i actually really liked the update, it makes it feel more like a game and less like "click faster than your enemy". Now you kinda have to get good angles and approaches, which was like that before but greatly overshadowed by having an autoclicker for a hand.
Yeah, let's be real: 1.9 was an objective upgrade to combat. Anything that removes the option to use cheats like an autoclicker as a crutch is a positive change. Anyone objecting to it on the grounds of it supposedly being a downgrade was suffering from the classic "Change is inherently bad" attitude, and the main source of objection wasn't that it was bad, it's that it was such a big change that required people to relearn certain aspects of the game, and unlearn some bad habits that used to be optimal.
I'm not entirely opposed to what other people think, so i don't think the update was for everyone, but a the same time a lot of people seem to forget that this is a game, and games tend to have changes that make it more approachable to everyone, not just children. There is games like CS or Valorant which definitely aren't bad, but would you really want Minecraft to be a game about who has the best muscle reflexs and knows the best angles? There's more to it, but at the same time you need to make sure it's a pleasant experience for most people, and as slow as the new combat can be, it definitely isn't unpleasant.
@@JohnDoe-un2cm They're not using it withing literal context but opinionated context, there's nothing wrong with that as long as you understand it's their opinion. It should be taken like hyperbole.
ngl the combat snapshots felt more like a combat game than most of the other versions imo. The versatility it added would have been amazing and it balanced out the problem of the axe being meta for nearly all of early- late mid game while the sword was only good during diamond/netherite combat (except end crystals existing which is a whole different problem).
Imo crystals don't need a rework, because you only need a few commands to clear them out of players inventories, maybe a datapack to disable the recipe if thats better for you. Servers that allow crystals probably want their servers to be crystal-based anyways. And would still be the meta early to mid game, considering they buffed the damage, which basically allows for more dps.
As a top level 1.9 competitive pvper (and someone who played extensively on both major versions of combat since 2014) I can confidently say that the "majority" of the community that you keep referring to that Jeb "wasn't listening to" is not actually a majority. There's a reason that SMP and Manhunt type videos vastly overtook Bedwars content in the last couple years: 1.8 pvp is boring and repetitive. There is very little variety because no matter which way you slice it, at the end of the day it's nearly all about CPS. And there is very little skill in clicking fast: buy a Glorious mouse and learn how to double butterfly at 22 cps and that's basically it. The 1.9 combat update and the many that have succeeded it brought incredible new gamemodes to Minecraft pvp that are all a universe different from each other. The old modes similar to 1.8 modes like potpvp, ffa, and uhc retained many of their original elements (which can be seen in the migration of many top 1.8 pvpers moving to 1.9 in those modes. For example, caseload on potpvp, vexaay and minemanner on ffa, etc) but now have more skill because of added mechanics. FFA isn't just about clicking fast, jump resetting, and hit selecting, there is now more strategy than traditional boxing. Pot is more interesting and fast paced (especially with loka damage which increases melee attacks by 33%). UHC has an even higher skill cap partially due to the shield. And the modes that 1.9 created like Netherite Pot (which is pot with reduced kb, gaps and totems), Crystal, and axe require a vast knowledge of many different mechanics for mastery, not just clicking fast. In conclusion, the majority of the Minecraft PvP community isn't represented by a few idiots on Reddit with big mouths who can type 150 wpm. The next time you think about making a video like this, I encourage you to do your research by stepping out of your bubble of diehard 1.8 mains, because to me there is a sufficient lack of proof that Jeb needs to think about changing the combat system again "because that's what the majority wants". And like you I many years ago thought I would never play 1.9+ because I loved 1.8 pvp and I spent a lot of time learning it. But I was wrong. 1.8 is boring. That's why it's dying. The stats don't lie.
i think 1.9 pvp is better but 1.8 pvp is actually movement and timing based other than the fact you take less knockback by hitting more but again thats only important in the top levels not if you are on hypixel against randoms
@@bubavunga397 first of all 1.8 is cps-dependent because high cps players take less kb and the only way to achieve those numbers is to buy certain equipment. 1.9 to me is also far more movement and timing based. Since you can only hit once per .625 seconds in 1.9 (obviously it gets more complicated than that with the different charge percentages but for the sake of simplicity let's call it .625 seconds) you have to formulate insane strats to dodge as many hits as possible while landing all of yours. For example a very strong nethpot player called Purxy developed a movement strategy that enabled him to beat players with better melee than him by throwing off their aim. Also there is much more timing in 1.9 modes especially with the more complicated modes like vanilla and nethpot. Nethpot has a lot of very complicated timing with gaps and hit timing (known by very high level players like StealthReflex) and vanilla drain is all about strategic timing. There is no dependency on your equipment. Deivi_17, arguably the greatest nethpot player ever with high tier 1 on the tierlist for over 2 years, has one of the most pathetic setups you will ever see. Many jokingly say it looks like a daycare. I played on a 5 inch mousepad and a 13 year old membrane office keyboard for a long time and was still a top player in potpvp and vanilla. With 1.8 these days if you don't click more than 12 cps you're at an automatic disadvantage against bedwars and duels sweats. And it's extremely hard to click above 13 cps without the right equipment.
I believe a lot of the reason why the update was halted was cuz of the un-named virus which caused lockdowns around the world making it harder for the devs to work on the base game forcing jeb to work more on the base game than the combat update 2.0 and he still has a ton of work ahead of him, plus i think he said he was going to start work on it again like a few months ago.
Along with these updates, I would add 4 new combat items: - Scythe: Has medium range and a great sweep attack. Can hit shields through the borders hitting the player instead. - Long Sword: Has long range and a powerful sweep attack. Higher cooldown. - Small shield: Has a lot less area of protection but doesn't slow the player down. - Short bow: Doesn't slow the player but deals less damage and has worse accuracy. Can add some changes like making normal bow the "Short bow" but add a long bow for sniping. Also, the normal shield can have it's protection area buffed.
instead of sythes, a spear will be good enough, push players back when equiping shields. The scythe will make the axe useless. The small shields problems can get solved by using pvp techniques of short shielding and blocking bows from mobs/players alike( parrying)
@@minli3562 sadly, parrying works really bad in the game. Somehow it feels like it eneds to be up for at least half second before it blocks. And I HATE IT.
@@aylanj123 the small shield will be broken in general since thou providing less protection space, it retains speed and opens up the offensive route of shield spammers(if not already enough). Large shields and small shields show less difference for the pvp techniques of backstabbing.
Here's my theory: In 1.9 the end and combat were updated. At the current moment the end needs some serious work expecting it to be updated in 1.21 or 1.22. So they might continue the trend and and the combat along side the end. A lot of work has already been done in the combat test snapshots so it wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Just a thought
The team could implement certain combat mechanics and End Dimension features from Minecraft Dungeons if they were to continue the trend. It would fit perfectly for a Combat Update V2.
I believe that could be the case, but I dislike the idea of an end update in general. I feel the end is the only place in modern Minecraft to not receive any sort of updates and attention, however, that is the whole kinda thing about the end, right? Listen to the soundtrack, look into the void, think about the name "The End", I kind of like how it remains untouched in so many years; like a lost relic of the past.
@@NemaMarcellThat’s so not true and if Notch had stayed, we’d never get updates like Update Aquatic or Village and Pillage or the freaking Nether Update which was huge. We’d also never get any Minecraft spin-offs such as MC Dungeons or Legends because I believe Notch didn’t really like spinoffs. Plus, he’s a very controversial figure and he has made some pretty racist and transphobic remarks in the past.
even if the 1.9 update was disliked, i fee it created a more balanced playing field for players no matter what equipment they have. It was no longer about who has the better mouse or the one that can double click, and rather became more skill based. Although having a better pc, keyboard, or mouse does help, it’s less beneficial, meaning it’s slightly more balanced as not everyone has money to spend on good mice, keyboards, and pcs.
1.9 combat is more of a gear based not skill based, if you are undergeared you still can kill someone being stacked but you can't kill someone being stacked being undergeared in 1.9 combat
Minecraft players when they actually need to think in a combat: By the way, good video, it really is very informative and detailed, I hope you continue with what you are doing
to be honest, i hate the 1.9 combat update for competetive pvp but it makes the game so much more fun in survival because it makes the game a bit harder and makes u use strategies Update : I get that people disagree with my opinion but if u have a problem with it just get off youtube. Its not the end of the world if i have an opinion different to yours.
That's the point of the controversy. The new mechanics are amazing for PvE but frustrating in PvP. Mojang should have tried to make something good for both modes, not just one.
I will always and forever make fun of people who thought spamclicking was better, because of the one guy on Reddit who complained that his mom got him a 300 dollar gaming mouse with a turbo button specifically to make his minecraft PvP win rate better, and now it won't matter because he has to [GASP] _time his button presses._ The combat update was badly balanced, but at least it made it _painfully_ clear that the minecraft PvP community is where all the whales are. Good riddance.
woah waiting a couple seconds for your sword to cooldown to finish, so much skill and not annoying at all and totally doesn't needlessly drag out fights
@@TGT_ yes I am weeping at mojangs poorly implemented cooldown mechanic, a mechanic that it looked like they were gonna fix with a new combat update but I guess they are too lazy
no it's not, switching from java to bedrock the combat is very clearly much more fun when you can spam click rather than having to wait for a stupid cooldown
@@KL53986 I played both and bedrock is much more satisfying, plus you don't have to use an extremely slow cooldown axe whenever you want to avoid hitting every mob in an area in front of you, you can just use your sword and attack exactly what you're aiming at no cooldown. It's just so much better on bedrock
@@lotsaspaghettimamaluigi I agree but in PVP i still stand by 1.9. Combat because well, try fighting auto clicker, and you will understand the pain it is to fight against

Minecraft multiplayer popularity didn't shrink because of the new combat system, as every big pvp server reverted the changes. The new combat system had nothing to do with it
I mained this combat snapshot for a year and within a month or two because the best irish player and quite well known within the community, it's quite sad that this update to PvP isn't likely to happen any time soon but all you can really do is hope.
I wish they added the new combat update because i'm a 1.8 player at heart but I do enjoy the 1.9 system equally. Seeing the new combat update 3 was so cool to me.
I mean I've played on servers against 1.8 people and I did win sometimes. You just have to learn when to hit and what item to use. Not just rush in and spam click.
I feel like blaming the combat change for the decline in bed wars or other pvp servers isn't really taking into consideration that most people just tend to get bored of doing the same thing over and over. I played those kinds of minigames for a little while when they were new simply because it was a new experience, but over time I just got bored with the concept and went back to other gamemodes and modpacks that continued to provide a new and interesting way to play the game. Minecraft is so much more than just spam clicking on other players and many other minigames have declined in popularity as well even though they have nothing to do with the base combat mechanics.
The silliest part of this is that you can literally remove the attack cooldown using attribute nbt tags on items, so all those pvp servers that are stuck in 1.8 and aren't able to use any of the newer features would still be able to keep their spam-click pvp style even if they updated to newer versions.
assuming you've never actually played 1.8 pvp because its not just simply down to weapon cooldown, combat is still different even if you remove the cooldown on 1.9 lol
@@lasercraft32 the reason servers like hypixel dont update to more modern versions can simply be answered by the differences in both versions of combat, and its noticable as someone who avidly plays both, making a plugin that removes the cooldown isnt enough
1:35 Gonna preface this with the fact that I don't actually do PVP, but... Where in the world are you getting your data from? Polls on whether people like the combat update show that the community is pretty split between the two (and sometimes even in favor of 1.9). Split is present on reddit as well. The majority of the video feels like "I believe this, and my circle believes it, therefore I will say that it is what the majority believes"... (Also gonna add on the fact that my initial comment was almost instantly removed after posting it, which is pretty sus) 4:46 For a good reason :)
I know this might be controversial, and yes, I know that everyone was used to it and "nobody hated it" but honestly, pvp combat in any game should not rely on how fast you can click. It never should. Clicking so fast for very long is bad for the veins in your arms, and it requires a good mouse. IMHO 1.9 made pvp more accessible to everyone, opening up the closed community of highly skilled minecraft pvp players.
it honestly confuses me why people hate the combat update so much, i find it to be much more skill based than just "who can click the fastest" with the exception of shields, those things suck
There's a lot more skill to 1.8 than just clicking fast and it's because the new combat update is super slow paced, the main reason 1.8 players like the cts is because it's faster paced and not the longest fight in the world every time
@@SuperDuperSebNoone is coping nor seething. You clearly haven't been quickdropped in nethpot, or quickdropped someone. Attack cooldowns give you a little room to breathe while also, at higher levels, keeping the gameplay fast paced

The combat tests are literally all about timing your hits. Spamming is literally the worst thing you can do, and everyone who has played for more than an hour is gonna realise that spamming doesnt win fights at all.
@@profx33 Yeah this video is moronic on multiple levels, from pretending the community is united in hating 1.9 pvp (the comments alone show this is the opposite of the truth) to blatantly spreading false information about the combat tests.
Imagine having a knife weapon that can be spammed along with the sword and axe. you could spam the knife and quickly switch to swords every second when they charge up until you deliver the killing blow with the axe
My guess is that Mojang will sooner or later make another combat update. Hopefully inspired from the experimental one. Maybe they are working on it now? Maybe it will be 1.22-23-24 or 25?
Personally I enjoyed the change from the start. I hated spamclicking. I never understood why people liked it but its not for me to speak for them. They like it, I dont, its what it is. However, I personally find the change, cooldown and all, to be a lot more skillful and filled with gameplay variety rather than defaulting to one playstyle which is "Spam to win". That being said, Axe is meta so I guess there is an issue on both sides to be seen. Something I noticed, which you bring up partially, is that Mojang is seemingly afraid to bring more depth into their game and I genuinly dont get why. We get fluff after fluff after fluff and there is nothing of actual genuine use added to the game. We play in a Sandbox with a literal endgame scenario dimension, called quite literally: The End. A sandbox, which has no beginning nor end apart from you or your parents saying "Time for bed" has an ending. An official one. Was such a dumb idea they later cut the idea and expanded on it instead. Just that instead of actually making it interesting, they turned it into a steppingstone for a few new items. Minecraft at this point wants to be Terraria so bad without knowing what made terraria good. It keeps adding more and more stuff barely anyone cares about a few weeks into the update to the point where clones of it, games that were made based on a mod by the same devs of the mod, does minecrafts job better than minecraft. Vintage Story. Yea the combat is a lil slower but believe me, its fun. Try it. Its really good.
1.9 pvp genuinely isnt that bad. adds more variety because axe pvp and sword pvp can be entirely different worlds and you actually have to be good instead of just clicking fast, theres still movement but also worrying about shield cooldowns and baiting the charges for shields and timing your swings so you can hit as soon as the cooldown is off
Minecraft has so much potential but Mojang refuse to add them, imagine mining helmets (which aren't that modern) or cannons (which aren't guns) or sharks (add a zebra shark which are friendly and add a fantasy shark which is hostile) , it would be so cool!
Mining helmets would require an entirely new lighting engine, cannons are already possible with *little* redstone knowledge, and they never said they don't want to add sharks.

The issue with 1.8 was it was too cps based and 1.9 it’s too ping based (at least in sword) I personally don’t really like this combat snapshot but tbf I haven’t really given it that much of a try but if they end up going through and doing it ig it’s time to learn a 3rd version of pvp
I used to watch u years ago back when u had only about 1.5k subs to see u grow like this is crazy keep up the good work. UR VOICE ALSO CHANGED SOOOO MUCH LOL
I honestly prefer 1.9 combat over the old way... The old way just feels so _basic_ (And yes, I know there are complex strats and stuff like that, but it mostly comes down to who can mash click the fastest). Even though 1.9+ combat is terrible, it still rewards timing, skill, and strategy more than whoever has the better ping and clicks-per-second. And its better in the PvE side of things too, because being able to spam click any mob and kill them in less than a second makes basically everything non-threatening.
At first, I thought you were just joking, but no, in ABSOLUTELY no way that "pvp is entirely based on how fast you can click and hit your opponent". I have never heard of a less true statement. There are MANY facets to pvp, click speed is just ONE aspect that influences your knockback. And I'm not talking about the other obvious things like aim, but there are LOTS of waaaayy more important things too, like sprint resetting and strafing. And tons of more nuanced less known things like hit blocking to reduce damage, hit selection, jump resetting, projectiles, bow boosting, critical hits, block-offs, clutches, ping contrast utilization, and many more skills that make up who will win a battle. I used to have the same massive misconception that cps was what made up pvp. It does not. Many players normal click and do just fine without high cps, like Tecnoblade, who clicked 8-9 cps and was still an incredible player. Someone who clicks 6 cps can absolutely destroy someone who clicks 18 if they know what they're doing. pls stop this misconception!
a player clicking 20 cps with the same skill as a player clicking only 8-10 will win every time. That's why 1.8 pvp is dependent upon cps. There are obviously other skills. There are many other skills in 1.9 pvp that the creator of this video knows NOTHING about and therefore has no place in making a video about how 1.9 is "unfavorable" and "needs to be replaced". Technoblade, as much as he was a part of my childhood and I will always love him for that, was not a "top pvper". He was a good skywars and bedwars player which mainly stemmed from his good gamesense and above average pvp skill. If you can piece this mess of a paragraph together, you might understand my point: 1.9 is far more skill based than 1.8 because click speed is not a factor anywhere. Nor is good internet (to a great extent). And w taps, strafing, jump resetting, all of that is present on 1.9+ modes, and WAY MORE! 1.9 is far more complex than the vast majority of 1.8 players realise, it's not just "two weapons and a shield". The applications of those 3 weapons and other items in the game that weren't even implemented until 1.9+ (crossbow, crystal pvp, cartpvp) are endless, and that's what makes 1.9 superior.
@@muppet0 Yeah! I never said what was superior, I think they both have different ups and downs, 1.9 is farrr more entertaining for challenges and whatnot, but sucks to watch when it's a minigame like bedwars. And you have to tank some hits, so gear is far more important than 1.8, in 1.8 if you are good enough you can avoid ever even being touched.
@@morplagro1545 there is comboing on 1.9+ and it is very possible to win while severely undergeared but I agree that 1.8 matters less about gear than 1.9+. Bedwars was a dying minigame anyways, and it kept dying because it gets boring and repetitive: plus people got tired of trying to learn a game where you run into at least 3-4 sweats every match. But that is why Hypixel retains 1.8 support, is for the few people that still like playing minigames on that version.
@@muppet0 If both players play perfectly then they trade, and whoever is better at hit blocking wins, cps is important for kb but wtaping and jump resetting will negate all kb if done flawlessly. So if both players are the exact same low skill but one clicks faster then yes... but that rarely ever happens.
@@morplagro1545 what you said is pretty much infeasible. There’s pretty much nobody that can jump reset consistently enough to “negate all kb” and that’s why cps is such a factor on 1.8. On 1.9 the hit timing makes it slightly easier to predict when your opponent is going to hit you so it’s easier to jump reset consistently.
I think Technoblade said it best himself in his videos about 1.9+ combat. The 1.8 system sucks, and needed to be changed. 1.9 combat just happened to be one of the only ways they could've made it worse. That said though, 1.9 undoubtedly has its benefits. There may be less casual pvp players now for multiplayer gamemodes like bedwars and skywars, but if you look at the more professional competitive side of things, MCC is pretty huge and people love to watch that. I think the snapshots were definitely going in the right direction like you said, combining the 1.8 and 1.9 combat while improving and remodeling the parts that need it to create a combat system that both professional and casual players can enjoy. Hopefully Jeb can get back to those snapshots sometime soon.
Considering that bedrock gets updates simultanously, I would bet they end up waiting in Bedrock most of the time. that or they're afris to anger the community or break simplicity (video on the topic)
Bedrock also needs to be updated, and Microsoft has a higher standard of quality and design than most modders. They also got a ton of corporate tape and authority to deal with.
the problem with adding a new combat system is that people got used to 1.9+ pvp and adding a new combat system would further split the comunity cuz there will be 3 versions that people play on and mojang doesnt need more angry players to deal with cuz they allready have more than enough
Why does everyone just assume that it would split the community into 3? 1) It will unite java and bedrock in terms of pvp, also making crossplay much more fair and viable 2) 1.8 players finally have an incentive to switch to the latest version 3) most 1.9 players just play the latest version (oh and it isnt that hard to get good at this new combat if you come from 1.9)
tbh this is a pretty nice balance between both the new and old combat systems so I'm guessing it would be the most loved one or at least liked more than the current one, it brings back the good old fast pace of fighting from the older versions of the game and combines it with a bit more strategy and thinking bout how you use your weapons similar to the newer versions, I doubt many people would be really angry bout it for more than a year or two.
No, the trident has literally the same attack speed as 1.8. People seem to mix up the speed at which you can click and the speed at which hits register a lot. The latter is far more important, and since trident and 1.8 have the same speed of that, they're effectively the most similar.
its because of youtubers like the person who made this video that are saying "attack spam" and "click spam", people hear "click spam" and think that in 1.8 the amount of times you click is the amount of damage your opponent takes like in combo duels for example, its really annoying @@Riftoo
There isn't a lot of games where you can use many different styles that are all well balanced, and minecraft was so close to achieving it. Now the only styles of pvp are crystral, anchor and minecarft tnt, wchich are very similar, and any other kit can't compete with them.
Honestely if mojang actually tried with the updates we could have a good system by now and probably be at 1.30, but since they only release 1 small update per year the game is not gojng anywhere.
do you not realise that minecraft is one of the biggest games in the world. Notch literally sold it for like 10 billion USD. with a B. Even if the updates suck this game is not going anywhere
My theory: the combat snapshots are experimental and have to be installed externally to access (like the first deep dark snapshot) meaning it was never guaranteed to be added. It was a side project for jeb due to the backlash the new system got but in the passed few years 1.9 combat has become a lot more favourable and so there’s not really much reason to be developing this idea any further for now
Imo the reason the update hasn’t been continued is due to the rise in popularity for 1.9 pvp. The CTS was made because of the fact that most pvpers were STILL on 1.8 and generally disliked 1.9 mechanics. Since then, however, 1.9 combat has become more popular with the rise in SMP content such as lifesteal (although rn that is starting to lose some popularity, but not all) as well as servers like pvplegacy and MCCisland. Basically all this means that the whole purpose for revamping the combat has gone as 1.9 has gained support. idk this is just my theory don’t take these as facts
Not what will happen (what I think plus the tweets) He wants to have bedrock and java pvp the same, which will never happen with 1.9 as such the update will still happen (at some point)
Umm, no. The combat update was shelved because the most recent content updates for minecraft were taking too much time and effort, to the point they even had to split a single update into multiple different parts. They will obviously return to it the moment the whole caves and cliffs update is shipped out
@@smaragdchaos true. also, it wasnt made because people hated 1.9. it was made to give bedrock and java the same pvp (1.9 for bedrock is unviable as controller players exist)
personally, I don't like the new snapshot for pvp, I've played both 1.8 and 1.9 a lot and I think that the current pvp version the best, I don't like the old version because spam clicking, and not because of cps, but simply because I like the combos you can do now a lot more than the classic 1.8 method.
1.9 combat was better than 1.8, not worse. The concept was just different, and now the system works better at what it's good for than 1.8 ever was. The only reason everyone hates 1.9 is because it took away the only thing that guaranteed a win from the start of a match, that is, the stupid comboing system that made no sense and had nothing to counter it. (edit): the 1.8 + 1.9 pvp system that was never added isn't perfect, it's just an improved 1.8 pvp system, which would make it comparable to pvp on the latest version in quality of concept
genuinely why and how have i never heard about this experimental combat update ive never heard a pip until now also i rlly dont get why 1.9 got so much hate the weapon charge is more skill based and not just how fast can you click you have to aim well and move well either way and its really not that complicated, maybe im wrong or overlooking smt but i do think the new experimental update that would combine both worlds is tons better than either of them anyway
most 1.8 players are experiencing high levels of copium because they don't have the skill or willpower to transition to a version where they might get their asses kicked for a few weeks.
@@muppet0 the number 1 crystal pvper? what about her? and 1.9 is 1000 times easier. I wanted to learn it back in 2020 and in a months time I became a top 0.5 percent player on pvp legacy. Shit is easy. to this day I figure out new mechanics on 1.8 while 1.9 sticks to the same flow. Its harder to learn but much, much easier to master. Crystal is another form of pvp and I wouldn't even place it in the same wavelength as 1.9 pvp. It has its own community and its very interesting and requires a ton of skill and positioning. But normal 1.9 is just dogshit.
I lost hope in within the updates. I give up. It's going to be just another plain update like usual in 1.21 no matter what. No matter the speculations, the next update will be (as usual) plain and boring. They had one more chance within 1.20. My hope for them has been destroyed.
3:14 completely unrelated footage but thats the best combat system imo 6:23 "with no one left to complain" wrong. I will still complain, NOT ENOUGH MOVEMENT 7:23 MELEE weapons which are basically irrelevant in the current meta due to crystals and anchors. a wooden axe with sharp 1 is enough to both break shields and crystal with weakness and no strength
Wouldnt the combat update just split players into 3 groups instead of 2, defeating the point? I think thats the reason mojang never decided to release or work on it again
Maybe, but honestly 1.8 will probably nearly or completely die within the next few years. Even servers like Hypixel are looking to update at least some of their gamemodes like skyblock, and probably more in the future. 1.8 in nearly dead, and based on community feedback, it looks like both 1.8 and 1.9+ pvpers loved the update, meaning most people probably would move to it.
The top 20 comments are all literally talking about how much better the 1.9 combat is over 1.8... maybe someone should follow their own advice and listen to the actual community instead of a bunch of loud and obnoxious reddit weirdos
I believe the current pvp version is best. It’s a more skill based game now and allows players to win many unfair fights by using their gear, pvp skill, and brains. Also, wouldn’t the expiremental combat update not just divide the communities from two to three?
The old combat also required a good bit of skill to actually be good at it, there's more to it than just the clicking method you use, also the entire point of the experimental combat update is to strike a nice between the old and new combat system so fans of both would be happy with it, the 3rd split would most likely happen, but this combat system would probably be the most liked one by the majority of the players.
Ngl this video kinda sucks. Like its well made and all, but the takes in it are just horrible. 1.9 pvp did not 'destroy' minecraft pvp. It changed it. It made a much more balanced system for PvE, and it completely changed PvP. Change does not instantly mean its bad. Many players were upset at the change, yes, but many more appreciated it. It gave rise to Dream, who boosted the popularity of minecraft in a way we had never seen before. And the fact is, 1.8 will always be there. Hypixel is losing popularity as players are losing interest in 1.8. 1.8 PvP is losing popularity, and because of this I think its safe to say that it isnt everyones favourite PvP style like you made out. And it was far from perfect, for both PvP and PvE. As for when the new combat system will be implemented, Mojang has already made some significant changes to crystal PvP in 1.19.4, with shield changes and a bug fix relating to blast protection. I dont expect there will be many significant PvP changes for a while, but maybe by 1.22 we might see something? Mojang made it clear that 1.19 and 1.20 werent going to be combat updates, so I dont understand why yall were disappointed when it wasnt a combat update. But yeah. Patience is key. And as a side note, 1.8 is going to take a very long time to die out. It runs significantly better than modern updates, and its simply unique. There will always be players who like it best. But that doesnt make it the best PvP style.
I prefer 1.9 because the only way to reduce kb is to jump reset or hit select, it also ads value to critical hits which brings another layer of strategy (when to crit, srpint hit, p-crit, hitselect; in 1.8 the only strategy is hitselect, aim well, time ur w-taps, maybe jump reset)
it is a bit weird that they didnt add the new combat features in 1.19, but i think the reason for mojang not implementing the new combat features in 1.20 is cuz they wanted to avoid adding any huge features that had a major impact on gp that could be controversial. sure, the combat snapshots were very well received, but mojang simply wanted to play it extremely safe (keep in mind mc is supposed to appeal to everyone lol), so it makes sense that they avoid any such changes for 1.20. we could very well see such changes in the upcoming updates, big or small, after all java and bedrock parity is a big deal to mojang for a system thats so significant
honestly, a festure to enable disable the delay would be really good. and if you host a server you can configurate it if players can enable or disable it
I think the swords charge hit should be longer so the spam hitting wouldn't be overtaken and the charge hit would only be used to start a combo and to get out of a combo. Also, I think the holding down click thing is not that great :(
wdym the holding down click thing is not that great? i think its rly good for more casual and newer players, holding down to click isnt even as good as regular clicking, so u still got the option to time ur clicks if u wanna have an advantage
Unique combat enchantments for each tool: Hoe: (Level 2 Enchantment) Increases your range by 1 block. Shovel: (Enchant level 1) You cannot WASD move, jump, or open interfaces for 1 second for each charged attack, charged hits refresh duration. Pickaxe: (Enchantment level 5) Being hit with this enchantment causes your armor to wear out faster, 32 points per hit, this effect is activated with your attack at 50% minimum. Sword: (Enchantment level 1) All your hits are now in area regardless if it is not fully charged or if you have not hit the target, this effect is activated with your attack at 50% minimun, this is practically the same enchantment that the sword already had but buffed. Axe: (Enchantment level 4) Critical charged attacks deal 100% more damage. Default tools features: Hoe: Very high rate, very high range, very low damage, very low crit damage. Sword: High rate, high range, high damage, Low crit damage. Axe: Very low cadence, very low range, very high damage, very high crit damage.
Increasing reach by one block is incredibly overpowered If you have a sword with that enchantment, any other weapon without that enchantment is gonna have absolutely 0 chance to do anything against you. Oh and the hoe already has the functionality of the scythe you are talking about
I MUCH prefer the 1.9 pvp and combat with the cooldowns. Combat flows so much better and actually takes skill and hand eye coordination to fight. I play bedrock mostly, and I am really annoyed by the fact it uses the spam click feature, especially since I play it on the Xbox One.
Yeah playing bedrock outside of pc makes combat extremely horrible especially controllers and mobile which makes it harder to click fast less spam clicking is needed for bedrock because the combat is basically a mixture of 1.8 and some incomplete 1.9 features so they need to keep bedrock in mind so they should either pick between 1.9 or combat snapshot and if they choose combat snapshot they will make changes to make it less op to play on pc or kbm and make it so that all players can have a good fighting chance
Lizard thanks for discussing this with youtube, I hope this goes around and hopefully we can get the new combat update that everyone has been craving for.
As a 1.9+ main, I can say that both pvp styles are completely different even tho both share some mechanics and there is clearly no "better" and no "worse". It all comes down to preferences at the end of the day
Haste does this at least in 1.20 that I know of, in the description of the custom haste potion says “+% bonus attack speed”, basically if u have like haste 175 u can spam lol.
People simply cant play games and thinking spam clicking is good. Like imagine fighting someone with lower ping with 1.8-. And I dont care about that its hot take its simply fact why 1.9. Is secretly good update for PVP

1.9 pvp is better for regular minecraft survival, but 1.8 is better for competitive pvp in games like skywars, bedwars etc

@@vladivascanu108 that's the problem which mojang have to fix and snapshot combat update made a good mix which I really liked but it never come
Like many players i actually really liked the update, it makes it feel more like a game and less like "click faster than your enemy".
Why does no one know what the word objective means? You are making a value judgment, your opinion can not be objective.

ngl the combat snapshots felt more like a combat game than most of the other versions imo.

The stats don't lie.
why do you think its about cps
i think 1.9 pvp is better but 1.8 pvp is actually movement and timing based other than the fact you take less knockback by hitting more but again thats only important in the top levels not if you are on hypixel against randoms

- Scythe: Has medium range and a great sweep attack. Can hit shields through the borders hitting the player instead.
- Long Sword: Has long range and a powerful sweep attack. Higher cooldown.
- Small shield: Has a lot less area of protection but doesn't slow the player down.

Just a thought
i believe your theory
The team could implement certain combat mechanics and End Dimension features from Minecraft Dungeons if they were to continue the trend. It would fit perfectly for a Combat Update V2.
I believe that could be the case, but I dislike the idea of an end update in general. I feel the end is the only place in modern Minecraft to not receive any sort of updates and attention, however, that is the whole kinda thing about the end, right? Listen to the soundtrack, look into the void, think about the name "The End", I kind of like how it remains untouched in so many years; like a lost relic of the past.

even if the 1.9 update was disliked, i fee it created a more balanced playing field for players no matter what equipment they have. It was no longer about who has the better mouse or the one that can double click, and rather became more skill based.

The silliest part of this is that you can literally remove the attack cooldown using attribute nbt tags on items, so all those pvp servers that are stuck in 1.8 and aren't able to use any of the newer features would still be able to keep their spam-click pvp style even if they updated to newer versions.

and pvp is not the only thing minecraft is about
The combat tests are literally all about timing your hits. Spamming is literally the worst thing you can do, and everyone who has played for more than an hour is gonna realise that spamming doesnt win fights at all.
@@profx33 Yeah this video is moronic on multiple levels, from pretending the community is united in hating 1.9 pvp (the comments alone show this is the opposite of the truth) to blatantly spreading false information about the combat tests.
i prefer the current combat system because it's more skill based, compared to just aim and click
Pretentious geek who gets shoved in lockers in high school thinks minecraft pvp is a skill, nerd
Imagine having a knife weapon that can be spammed along with the sword and axe. you could spam the knife and quickly switch to swords every second when they charge up until you deliver the killing blow with the axe
Try these fixes:
Either stop playing minecraft
Just stay on 1.8
My guess is that Mojang will sooner or later make another combat update.
1.9 pvp genuinely isnt that bad. adds more variety because axe pvp and sword pvp can be entirely different worlds and you actually have to be good instead of just clicking fast, theres still movement but also worrying about shield cooldowns and baiting the charges for shields and timing your swings so you can hit as soon as the cooldown is off
I disagree, i absolutely hate the 1.8 system and i love the 1.9+ combat system
Minecraft has so much potential but Mojang refuse to add them, imagine mining helmets (which aren't that modern) or cannons (which aren't guns) or sharks (add a zebra shark which are friendly and add a fantasy shark which is hostile) , it would be so cool!
@@KhanDinaam True """not minectafty""""😂😂

I would like to have more wepons, like daggers that could be just swords before comabt uptade with difrend texture but they would have small range, and wepons like glaives, scythes, tridends or spears would have longer range but they would do difrend things. Trident would work underwater with long range, quite fast attaks and ability to throw it would be very good, but for egzample spears would be faster but would not work under water. Glaives and scythes could do damage to many enemies at ones (like sweeping edge) and they would have massive range, but they couldnt been thown. Scythes would be slower but would deal bogger damage. And wepons like clubs or morning stars would be good to destroing or stunnig shields. Every player would use they favourite wepons. But no...
Nah the new combat system is way better than the old one. Fights aren’t actually determined by who can click faster anymore.
0:38 that is only true below 10 CPS (clicks per second). After that it is more based on movement/aim.
You still need to click really fast to get 10 cps, though. I would like to click just 2-3 times per second.

Personally I like 1.9 combat system more. It just feels more realistic and doesnt make every Minecraft player require the best mouse in the world.
If splitting a Minecraft update into two parts was to prevent being overwhelmed, explain modders adding tons more in just a few days
Considering that bedrock gets updates simultanously, I would bet they end up waiting in Bedrock most of the time. that or they're afris to anger the community or break simplicity (video on the topic)

@@Vendetta_killer yeah, that would be so cool
the problem with adding a new combat system is that people got used to 1.9+ pvp and adding a new combat system would further split the comunity cuz there will be 3 versions that people play on and mojang doesnt need more angry players to deal with cuz they allready have more than enough
Why does everyone just assume that it would split the community into 3?
1) It will unite java and bedrock in terms of pvp, also making crossplay much more fair and viable
2) 1.8 players finally have an incentive to switch to the latest version
3) most 1.9 players just play the latest version (oh and it isnt that hard to get good at this new combat if you come from 1.9)
Adding a new combat system right after players finally started accepting the combat update… probably not a good idea.
tbh this is a pretty nice balance between both the new and old combat systems so I'm guessing it would be the most loved one or at least liked more than the current one, it brings back the good old fast pace of fighting from the older versions of the game and combines it with a bit more strategy and thinking bout how you use your weapons similar to the newer versions, I doubt many people would be really angry bout it for more than a year or two.
they could make it a option
It’s not really a new combat system it’s kinda just a rebalance of the new system.
the combat is better, because before "autclicker win you lose" and now people need to get good, not spend money on an autoclicker.
Funny thing: having enough haste can just re introduce 1.8.9 PvP, bcs for some reason it add’s attack speed lol.
It doesn’t tho
No, the trident has literally the same attack speed as 1.8. People seem to mix up the speed at which you can click and the speed at which hits register a lot. The latter is far more important, and since trident and 1.8 have the same speed of that, they're effectively the most similar.
I think you forgot how invincibility frames work. Technically, 1.8 has an attack cooldown of 0.5s, because of the invincibility
its because of youtubers like the person who made this video that are saying "attack spam" and "click spam", people hear "click spam" and think that in 1.8 the amount of times you click is the amount of damage your opponent takes like in combo duels for example, its really annoying @@Riftoo
@@bubavunga397 yeah. people have this view that 1.8 is literally that one combo gamemode that no one plays

There isn't a lot of games where you can use many different styles that are all well balanced, and minecraft was so close to achieving it. Now the only styles of pvp are crystral, anchor and minecarft tnt, wchich are very similar, and any other kit can't compete with them.

My theory: the combat snapshots are experimental and have to be installed externally to access (like the first deep dark snapshot) meaning it was never guaranteed to be added. It was a side project for jeb due to the backlash the new system got but in the passed few years 1.9 combat has become a lot more favourable and so there’s not really much reason to be developing this idea any further for now
The new combat is gaining more players
Imo the reason the update hasn’t been continued is due to the rise in popularity for 1.9 pvp. The CTS was made because of the fact that most pvpers were STILL on 1.8 and generally disliked 1.9 mechanics. Since then, however, 1.9 combat has become more popular with the rise in SMP content such as lifesteal (although rn that is starting to lose some popularity, but not all) as well as servers like pvplegacy and MCCisland. Basically all this means that the whole purpose for revamping the combat has gone as 1.9 has gained support.

My opnion:
1.9 pvp is better for regular minecraft survival, but 1.8 is better for competitive pvp in games like skywars, bedwars etc
0:26 whats the texture pack for the armors shown there ?
But that doesnt make it the best PvP style.
lizard did not even read his own comments section 💀
I prefer 1.9 because the only way to reduce kb is to jump reset or hit select, it also ads value to critical hits which brings another layer of strategy (when to crit, srpint hit, p-crit, hitselect; in 1.8 the only strategy is hitselect, aim well, time ur w-taps, maybe jump reset)
I unironically enjoyed the update, even if I did a lot of competitive PVP, it wasn't really that hard to adapt either
Bruh this update equalized the game for everyone
it is a bit weird that they didnt add the new combat features in 1.19, but i think the reason for mojang not implementing the new combat features in 1.20 is cuz they wanted to avoid adding any huge features that had a major impact on gp that could be controversial. sure, the combat snapshots were very well received, but mojang simply wanted to play it extremely safe (keep in mind mc is supposed to appeal to everyone lol), so it makes sense that they avoid any such changes for 1.20. we could very well see such changes in the upcoming updates, big or small, after all java and bedrock parity is a big deal to mojang for a system thats so significant
honestly, a festure to enable disable the delay would be really good. and if you host a server you can configurate it if players can enable or disable it
