Hello Robert....Thank you for showing me, a city person, how a forest fig tree look like. It seemed quite dangerous to climb such a majestic tree just to collect the fruits, so do climb carefully. Thank you too for showing how to make pickled figs. Your generosity and salesmanship shows in your distribution of pickles to friends and that hopefully you will get some orders too. I see some of the smaller piglets get squashed aside during feeding time and I hope you will be able to separate them so that the smaller ones can get enough food to eat and grow. Robert, the jungle is like a paradise, full of fruits and vegetation. Even though, do be careful and take care. There is a proverb that says "All work and no play will make Jack a dull boy" meaning if you work too hard, life will be boring, so …. Rest well and Eat well too. Peace ….. God bless you.
These are Vietnamese figs. They aren't the same as European figs. For a start, European figs don't grow in bunches hanging off the trunk like this, they grow more the way apples do on a tree. European figs are red inside, not pale green, and are very sweet if picked when ripe. You don't need to pickle them. Just chill them and eat them the same day or the next day. There's nothing nicer than a fresh, sweet, chilled fig on a hot day. They don't keep well so they need to be consumed within a couple of days of picking.

They grow on the branches like apples and oranges and are red inside. They are very soft and sweet and don't need to be pickled. The dried ones you can buy are the European/middle eastern variety, not these.
