- This video shows my Friday April 8th, 2022 trip to a local carwash to wash away all the road salt from my bike. The video begins in Joseph Burr Tyrrell Park in the Toronto's Annex neighbourhood near the intersection of Dalton Rd and Bloor St, and ends at the Bathurst Carwash, located on Bathurst St just north of Dupont St.

Green Machine: / strava
The bike I was riding is a mountain bike from the 1990's which I call my "Green Machine". It has studded tires, but on this particular day the studs weren't actually needed. I filmed this using my GoPro HERO 9 Black action camera mounted ahead of the frame tube using a custom wooden bracket. I recorded the audio with a Panasonic voice recorder and earpiece microphone.

Thanks for watching.
Interesting video, currently waiting for my bike to be ship. Staying in an apartment and thinking where to wash my bike, glad I stumble into your video. Thanks CJ, just subscribed.🙌
Nice! The previous apartment building that I lived at had one of these car wash stalls in the basement parking garage which is probably where I got the idea.
You motivate me a lot. Thank you for your videos.
Thanks, I appreciate the kind words.
Another enjoyable video . The Green Machine rocks. Cheers 🍻
Thanks!
Great idea. Now your bike is ready for next winter..
Thanks, yes exactly :)
Nice video of washing your bike. The bike looks in very good shape.
Thanks, it's been pretty reliable.
That was fun to watch 👀! I have washed my old van 🚐using $3 and moving efficiently, sometimes including a final wax appliqué. I enjoyed the trip through the Annex neighbourhood too! Thanks CJ 🚲😃
Thanks, glad you enjoyed it.
Awesome ... that's terrific. When it comes to my bicycles,I refer to them as 'my cars'.There are some things that I had copied out from you and this definitely will be one of them. I saw one of your videos where you are washing a frame. There is a car wash not too far away from where I live.Great video CJ.
Thanks! The previous building where I was living had one of those car wash stalls right in the basement parking garage. That was what I used to wash the frame that you are referring to.
I use my local car wash also and this provides me a day of relaxing, I enjoy washing the bike and just getting out.
Ya for sure, it's super fast!
Thats a great idea going to the DIY car wash.
Thanks.
Your back to an upright bike! Sorry I have not been keeping up with your adventures. Glad to see you on the green machine again!
During the times of the year when the roads are salty I've been exclusively riding my Green Machine for the last few years.
@@cjhoyle I did notice you are more upright on it when riding. Do you still have the summer non recumbent bike?
I ride in the winter too. It's two hours of riding and 30 minutes of cleaning and drying afterward,. I use wd40 after cleaning to displace the water, being very careful not to get it on the disk routers. Then lube on the chain, etc. Using a car wash is a great idea. Thanks.
Me: I wonder how the heck I'm supposed to wash a bike with out a hose? This guy: carwash time!
You bet!
Great video. I'm currently trying chemical guys waterless wash, but I like the deep cleaning, car wash option. I wonder, if the car wash soap will be ok, on my rotors.
Thanks.
I think I saw you a few times on the roads :D
This means that I've probably seen you a few times on the road too! :P
Sadly, this car wash has been demolished for condos! I used to use it for my bike too.
Yes I know. I was very sad when that happened. Unfortunately the next nearest DIY carwash is quite a bit further away for me.
So he is ruining his bearings? Why would he do this...
The bearings are just fine thank you.
Have you still chosen to use a steel rack or aluminium rack? And have you used your string method or cable tie method for attaching the crate? I also thought you’d use a green crate to match the colour scheme like previously, also I didn’t notice a rear light underneath the crate
The steel rack and green milk crate that I had installed on the bike when it got stolen in 2016 were removed from it when I recovered the bike. I have since replaced it with another steel rack and the milk crate is installed using zip ties. Unfortunately black seems to be the only colour of milk crate which is available to buy in Canada. The green one I had on it before came from a store called "Solutions", but sadly they no longer sell milk crates. The custom rear bike light I built was unfortunately another casualty of the bike theft. I still have the orange one that I built, but it isn't currently installed on any of my bikes.
Is there a video regarding the extra long stem on the green machine?
I haven't made a separate video on that topic, but I discussed it while riding in this video: ruclips.net/video/OC4RJDqPqq4/видео.html
The final wash mode should have been wax.
I prefer to just rinse with water, no need for wax.
Do you lubricate the bearings after such a wash?
Just the chain. I kept the high pressure nozzle away from spraying any of the bearings.
Never thought about taking a bike to a car wash before, because everywhere I have lived there has been a hose to use, but that's actually a really good idea! What type of fenders do you use? I actually just won a set of fenders and pair of panniers in an Instagram contest today! The type of fenders that I won are Flasheguard Fenders, made by Axiom. I've never used fenders on a bike before, so it will be interesting to see what they are like.
Thanks! The previous building I lived at actually had one of these car washing stations in the basement parking garage. That's probably what gave me the idea! I believe they are "Planet Bike Hardcore ATB Fenders" which I bought from MEC. I actually made a video installing them back in 2018. Congrats, that's so awesome! I still fondly remember the first time I installed fenders on one of my bikes back in 2009. The next day I was biking and there was a puddle across the trail, and as I approached it I was bracing for the splatter that would have normally happened, but there was none :)
Add the lube part after the high pressure wash.

@@cjhoyle Thank you so much for your reply. I'm a huge fan.
I race cross and on my way home when my bike is all muddy I wash my bike and car for like 3 dollars
These car washes are really handy. Sadly, this particular one has permanently closed since I made the video.
hi, do you use any degreaser before washing the bike?
No. My goal was to wash away salt (not grease).
@@cjhoyle ah ok. thanks for the answer, love your videos
I don't carwash my bikes because they're ebikes!
Awe, good to know. Another reason I shouldn't get an ebike :P
@@cjhoyle it's to protect the electrics!
Where is that two dollar car wash
Bathurst St, just north of Dupont. I normally include these types of details in the video description.
CJ did you remember to wash behind your ears?
lol awe, I knew I forgot something!
@@cjhoyle that's ok i won't tell anyone!
