    Great demo Doddy. In fairness that fork seal was well blasted from an almost vertical angle so you really can’t be surprised some water got in. In a normal jet washing session, you wouldn’t concentrate the jet like that so thanks for doing the test that the rest of us are too scared to try😂.
    Jet washers are great for MTB washing and water pressure varies a lot in different areas so it’s a brilliant investment for bikers.
    Worth pointing out to people without the access to an outside tap that they can work well from a water butt or tank.

    Hi Doddy, I use a pet dryer after washing my bike, it directs a warm jet of air at quite a brisk pace. It displaces water from the bearings and seals, not aimed directly at these areas and then onto the protect stage. Also dries the chain and drivetrain beautifully.

    People get too precious about cleaning MTBS. Seems like its more important for some to have a pristine bike for their social media feed than actually ragging it about the countryside, scratching it up exploring new routes and getting filthy. Quick spray of lube and drivetrain spray down thats it. Maybe a full hose and soap once a month. Doing that for years and not wore out a bike or components yet because of dirt sitting around for a bit

    The pressure washer itself is fine, but it all about using the right tip and GPM (Gallons Per Minute) as a car detailer. We look more for flow in the water through the unit rather than peak PSI. 40 degree fan tip would be perfect for a bike like a car. For the leftover water, I would use a leaf blower or specific handheld blower to get in the tighter areas.

  • @mikes4163
    @mikes4163 3 года назад

    Rather than an airline or leaf blower for drying I have a 'pet dryer' (just search in ebay for that - it's a backward cylinder cleaner).
    Like the lower power pressure washer sprays, it's enough to get the water off without risking damaging stuff and the hose+nozzle means you can really target the nooks and crannies, like inside the brake calipers and the cassette, which is hard with a leaf blower.
    One big tip - wear ear defenders. The noise levels when up close on calipers and other complicated parts is very high.

    I always use a pressue washer, and use the degreaser attachment. It have my bike washed in about 2 minutes. I think I spend more time setting up the washer unit than actually washing. Then I leave it on my wash station. My rule of thumb is, if I can put my hand in front of the pressure (say, 30-40cm from the nozzle) it is soft enough for the bike. My other point is, I'd rather spend less time washing my bike each ride or once week, and more time doing a proper service.

I just skip the soap wash it with the hose or jet wash, use a wider nozzle setting for around the bearings/forks/shock, dry the bike off and use protect and shine on any of the moving bits, wrap a dry rag around the headset to absorb any water that might have gotten in, lube the chain and derailleur, done. Might not look brand new but only takes 10-20 mins, the important parts are clean, and it's insta-dirty the minute I ride it within the next day or two anyway, and far worse than shown in this video too. Great demo to prove why pressure washing is legit though, people who say you shouldn't do it, obviously haven't gotten their bike truly filthy

    I wonder, if you aimed a higher pressure, non bike specific jet-wash directly at the tyre bead for say 30sec, would water get into your tyres?

    Jet washing has worked for me for 20 years. As long as straight after you use a compressor to blow out the water then dry off. I get ticked off with these vids of people trying to tell us how to clean bikes. The good old £80 compressor from screw fix is the best tool you can buy for your bike

      Buy yourself some Bilt Hamber Surfex HD. Way cheaper and better. Plus you can dilute to whatever strength you need. I've been using it in the car detailing business for years. It's PH neutral so will not strip any sealant or waxes either.

    I have a pressure washer, but the time it takes to set it up, clean the bike, then put it away again, I can wash my bike in less time with a standard garden hose and a brush.

  • @filmboy18

    Your better off getting a normal jet wash that you would normally use on a car but upgrade the gun if it comes with a cheap one so you can get a 45 degree jet coming out of it. Just stand slightly further back and it will do it in half the time if you go slow compared to that muc off jet wash which i think is a joke imo.

    Could you please make a Video in which you can give us sind Tips how to Ride in the Snow/ ice because it Is extrme slippery and it Is Really Hard to brake without that your back wheel Slips away and you then crash.

      Studded tires are great. They're awesome for ice, even better than fat tires (for ice, not snow), but they will slip easier on exposed rocks.

    I don’t see a need for a pressure washer. My bike gets perfectly clean rinsing and using muc off and rinsing after. The garden hose with spray nozzle is plenty. No need to risk high pressure getting water where it shouldn’t be

    I always wondered why those bike specific jet washers come with a long lance instead of the "handgun style" attachement like on a garden hose . It's just _SO_ cumbersome to use around a bike due to its length. Anyone know?

    • @mattgriffin6280
      @mattgriffin6280 3 года назад

      I'm just guessing here but id say its similar to how the barrel on a rifle works. The longer the water has to travel along the lance, the more accurate and powerful it will be. However i do agree they are a pain to get into the tighter parts on the bike.

      I figured it out. Same thing as a power washer only our's are gasoline engine powered. Very strong. Since our water pressure runs at 40 psi I don't need one. I have yet to see a cable housing that prevents water from getting in. Therefore if I do lots of riding in dirt or rain I periodically run a dessicant spray like brake-clean through them, then oil as usual. Cable housings need replacement more often under such conditions. You can also hand clean the top part of the housings then tape them before spraying. Remove the tape afterwards. Hydraulic brakes are best for rain and mud.

  • @graveyardsarescary
    @graveyardsarescary 3 года назад

    Load a bucket with oil and high pressure gun it straight into your bearing! Life hack!
    Pretty sure this would destroy your brakes but who needs brakes anyway...
    Good luck!

    So frustrating no one on GMBN or GCN seems to recommend a blower to dry your bike (is that because Muc-Off don’t produce one!)
    Seriously these things are so fast and brilliant. Tour Teams use them (or air lines) all the time after cleaning bikes. Try one.... DEWALT DCV100-XJ 18 V do a good one at a fair price

    • @scottlstone
      @scottlstone 3 года назад

      Neither did I Doddy until I used one for the first time!
      Also brilliant to use around electrical, like if you jet wash your car engine and need the water out immediately. Door sils/alloy wheels once cleaned, even when I jet wash my lawn mower I blow the water out of it.

    If you're concerned about power, stand a little further back. I've been getting away with using the ones at my local petrol station. Never any trouble and you can get 4 bikes at once. To clean tyres, the biggest idiot of the day ie the one who had the dumbest crash, holds the rear end up while someone sprays the top of the wheel. All the crap comes off and the wheel naturally spins to get everything. Repeat for the front.
