@@RogelioV1985 I think there are licensing issues. Microprose sold off a lot of things back in the day. From what I can tell, even Hasbro might own some of Civ 2. Since no one company owns it all, GOG can't get permission to sell it.
Ah the good old days. No more spearmen defeating tanks. The advisor council was a riot, especially during anarchy when they all start arguing with each other! And Elvis is apparently some kind of Eternal, like the Doctor or Kane.
I think that "G"-function (go-to city) works right of the box originally. They thought of some quality of life functions right away back then. Great service pointing out that mod, thank you very much. 👍
The resorces in civ 2 is in a pattern. If the map size is a specific width (liie you have it now) the resources will be clustered to be in 4 in range of one city. (Typicallt there will be a cluster of 4 and a cluster of 2) Knowing the pattern you can extract resources that is blocked by graslands. @@scientistforscience Hey thank you so much for the support, that's so kind of you. Civ 2 is simpler, and some mechanics are weird because the 90s, but I find it the best of the 'simple' first 3 games. Civ 3 is weirdly complicated but still old, takes a lot of learning, and Civ 4 onwards is the 'modern' age of Civ where game design was much more figured out. Happy new year!
Technically anyone willing enough can buy Civ II right now, I got the 16 bit original (for windows 95 VM gaming) and the Multiplayer Gold Edition physical media CDs off ebay for not that much I just recommend making backups of the CDs since they are going to be over 2 decades old lol
"Alien invasion" " Apocalypse" oh yeah the soundtrack from those scenarios; haven't seen them since the 90s don't think any youtuber uploaded them either.
I really wish the company who owns the rights would finally just remaster this game with modern internet lobby networking so playing against other people wasn't impossibly difficult. I got this running on Win10 a few years ago flawlessly like you have but could never get networking to work.
The problem is likely many different companies own various bits of the rights. Microprose sold off a lot of stuff from back in the day but probably still owns some of this. Firaxis and 2K would own the Civilization brand. From what I've read, even Hasbro owns some stuff. You can't just get multiple corporations to agree on things easily, they'd argue about who gets how much profit.
It's fascinating seeing where Civilization is now or will be when 7 comes out compared to where it came from. What was the first Civilization game like? Is there a video of that game?
is the AI any good, like could it actually wipe you out? I seem to remember it couldnt use transport boats either, so if you are on an island you will never die?
Nice mod, but I cant get to run. When I use the add on, loading a save or play new game for some turns, the game crashes. But the normal game runs fine. Someone have the same problem? Thx
I have all Civilizations. I'm playing Civ 2 again. It is sad what the game is becoming. We don't need better graphics a huge city controls. Cities are to be conquered and burned!
Some of us know how to play this game. Nostalgia be damned. This was a far better game than the fizzy RTS you see now. Those cities are extremely underdeveloped, by the way. This version of Civ 2 is pre Test of Time. Civ 2 Test of Time was far more advanced, far less clunky and more playable than any of the subsequent games. I fought off an alien invasion of my home world, did many nuclear wars, and much more. The later games are pretty lame and incredibly slow by comparison. Just bring Civ 2 back to its best and you'll get a lot of happy gamers.,
"Yes, it's running in windows 10, natively" finally, it's fixed, just in time for windows 10 to die next year and we'll all be forced to use windows 11 and all the open source games will break again :(
@@ivantumanov1015 u r moron bruh with that stupid sentence - I am on Win10 rn coz I WAS FORCED to go there since GAMES were migrating to Win10 - now I won't go to Win11 until GAMING space won't force me to and I would gladly stayed on Win7 forever, so rn Win10 and end of stroy..... btw WinXP and Win7 was best windows versions to date.
Guys help needed here! I do everything exactly the same, but cant get the background music. When I try pick music, gives me that no cd error. Heeeeelp!!!
@GamerZakh, yes, exactly. What could I be missing? Audio drivers? Something else? I would be the happiest-old-school-gamer on the planet, if I could solve this background music issue. Any help will be much apprecieted.
@@tired_captain Okay first to be sure, a checklist: 1. Made a 'music' folder in your Civ 2 directory 2. Put 9 or 11 audio files in that folder 3. Disabled CD check in the mod launcher options Make sure these 3 are correct. After that, I'll probably need to see what you're looking at. If something is wrong but you don't know what it is, you won't be able to tell me what's wrong.
All 3 are correct. I tried folder names of "Music" and "MUSIC", with 9, 11 and 23 files. Also tried files of mp3 and ogg formats. Tried to check and uncheck the disable cd check. I am running win10. I have no problem playing mp3 or ogg files on wmp or vlc. The ingame videos, council, embassies, etc. all work fine. It's just the background music that doesn't work. I use both the game you downloaded from that exact site, and also a 603mb bin/cue pair mounted using WinCDEmu.
@@tired_captain Alright, as far as I've worked with it, it should all work, so the problem must be with something else. I'll try look up stuff to see if I can find anything. Maybe it's a missing codec? That's all I can think of right now.
I only really got into Civ with Civ4 (I mean, just look at the insanity of the mod scene. Especially with Cave2Cosmos mod) But, it is always fun to watch gameplay of the older Civs
Yeah Civ 4 has some rough spots really fixed up with mods. The BAT mod I installed made the UI so much easier to understand for me who hadn't played it in like 15 years.

WOAH Civ 2 is a childhood nolife game xD dang iti s so cool this game have support ;)
I played Civ II 1998 - 2004 A LOT. Amazing game.
More Civ 2 content for Christmas, we must have been good this year
I started playing civ 1 back in 1992-1993.
So many of those stock sound effects are burned into my brain.
90s sound effects went way too hard in games lol
I'm certain they took a part of the sword-fighting sound effect from the Black Knight fight in Monty Python and the Holy Grail

Yoooo! Civ 2! With working music and video advisors! Just like old times! GOG gotta team up to make it happen! I totally would repurchase this game!
