We haven't gotten Roman city builders for 15 years and now we're getting a bunch. What do you think of this one? Seriously try the demo on Steam: tinyurl.com/GamerZakhRTdemo [ad] This is a sponsor that couldn't be more fitting. It's for a free demo and an ancient roman city-builder, it's just what we're always looking for!
Needing stone, especially that much, makes no sense whatsoever; the Romans didn't build things so shabby they fall apart in months; many of their stone and concrete buildings are still standing today 2,000 years later, various ones still in use. Some were so unshakably built that when a king or a duke figured he bring down a Roman building and build something new, they couldn't get it done, leave the Roman building and build his new building against it/fuse it together. Consuming lots of stone to maintain it makes no historical sense; it's purely a game mechanic to make it more difficult on the player.
Watching a long gameplay session like this is fantastic! It’s so interesting to see how battles unfold and how the city develops in a unique way. This perspective is really valuable for our development!
I love it when brother Zakh does his scarf as a toga! 😂 I live in a 2000 year old Roman city in England but because I see Roman stuff around me all day I have less of an interest in Roman games, I still watch videos like this for Zakh being Zakh. Salutem tuam, Doctorem!
Haha yeah I can imagine if you grew up around ancient Roman stuff it'd be pretty boring at this point. I'm from a country that doesn't have much of anything human-made older than 50 years, so historical building is way more novel to me.
In games that can build walls, they rarely address the issue when walls meet natural barriers in the terrain like water bodies or mountains. There are gaps between them. It always makes me unsure of whether my wall placement is effective or not.
Yeah it's usually unclear but mechanically it's solved here because there's the 'enemy traversable terrain' overlay thing. You can at least see which part of the hill they can't walk on and build up to that. It'd be nice if it was visually represented without the filter too though.
I watched the first hour of your video and then downloaded and played for 6.5 hours before going back to finish watching your video. I deforested a good percentage of my map before realizing that there is a building to plant trees, and I now see that for some reason your tech tree is much more extensive than mine is for availability. I ended up playing for 10 years, had a population of 270 and my last fight was a total of 7 Dragons attacking from 3 different directions.
Hello, Mr. Jupiter! I'm sorry to bother you, I know you must be busy. I wanted to thank you again for the increased production bonus. It really helped our city grow, and we are very happy about that. If I may have an additional request - and I reiterate that I am grateful for what was already given, and I feel lucky for those gifts - but if I may ask for one more thing: considering you're the king of Gods, is there anything you think you can do, any help you can give, to fight THE FREAKING DRAGON THAT IS SETTING THE WHOLE CITY ON FIRE??? I mean, I can't see the future but I'm pretty sure that, even past the year 2000, even after all their progress, people would still consider a dragon attack a serious problem requiring outside help.
Great game, Thank you. Started playing couple hours ago. On mine the sound of miner hitting stone delayed by a sec lol. --- Been playing over five hours. Steam not recording my time. So far only frustration cant get enough gold to final upgrades (need 102) Taxes at 1 dont want to go higher or people complain. Pop 125, looks lie have to make more homes but then out of work people. Very beneficial upgrading weapons. Other then that awesome game!! ---
After playing six hours and completing all the research available on the Demo, I got the "Baby Hydra" ten times the hit points of the Dragon, was a bit stressful lol. Awesome Game.
Very promising game! I just have one feedback: I'm colorblind, and the red enemy traversal overlay is completely invisible for me - and I don't even have that strong a case of colorblindness either. The luminosity and saturation values of the green grass and the red overlay must be virtually identical. I know having super vibrant colors is not everyone's cup of tea and does not suit every visual style, but for an overlay, I'd say err on the side of "too clear" 🙂
That's great feedback! I'm always on board for accessibility. I occasionally check colour accessibility myself once in a while even though I'm not because good contrast is just good design anyway.
This seems a lot like Settlement Survival (I actually checked whether it's from the same devs - guess they both are just heavily inspired by Banished), though certainly the military aspect is different (Roman theme aside; Settlement Survival is more generic with interesting bits of Chinese). ... as for the break in Roman city builders; true, but also, there were almost no city builders, Roman or otherwise. Some, but very few. Genre really managed to revive itself, and there's quite a few that aren't like any others. It's really nice to see.
1:07:43 hmm in most RTSes placing TOWER behind a wall is most strategic place since - tower is covered ;) but sometimes dunno how mechanics works in some RTSes and for example lets assume if tower is behind something it won't fire which is dumb as hell if that happens :)
@@19DamisS10 There are no plans for a Caesar 5 at this point as far as I know or could guess. Technically, Caesar is now owned by Microsoft. They do like bringing back old games but not typically city-builders.
So... Another classical era game that blatantly ignores the entire concept of slavery and how the entire social and economic civilization depended on it?
I still don't understand how some developers dare to deliver such awful graphics 26 years after Caesar 3 and years after the first releases of Manor Lords and Farthest Frontier. Is like city builder developers live in a time bubble, stuck in between Minecraft (2011) and Banished (2014), aka a decade ago.

We need that walking dragon! Glaurung was awesome!!!!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Thanks for playing Roman Triumph (im the dev), i really enjoyed watching the playthrough and listening to your feedback :)
I will be following development with great interest

Reminds me of Banished but in the roman era, I am playing this right now!
The historical accuracy of the dragon attacking is amazing.

HOW did I miss this?!? Must download right away! OMG!

I fell asleep during the video. In my dream a "5 meter dragon" apeared!
At least the guy in the tower has an awesome view! He should have picnic lunch! They need a forester to plant new trees!

I like that rou play this game and i enjoy you play this genre. Looking forward to see more of this one.🙂

I like city builders and Rome. I think I'd like this for about an hour or two before everything starts falling apart.

God bless you Zack for your videos
Sweet, I'm installing now!
Spend all game building walls, game sends a flying dragon and a plague. 😅
Lol a lesson was learned.
15 years??!? Craziness!!
Right? When I thought about it I couldn't believe it, so I double checked and yeah. No Roman city builder since 2009 until 2024.
Hello Zahk. It would be lovely to hear from you regarding my little roman game ❤😊
Are you wearing some Clint Eastwood outfit?
@@brocklanders3308 It's a shawl from Uniqlo, so it's more Japanese than anything.
My initial complaint is that is does NOT look like an ancient Roman City...looks more Medieval..
How many ancient Roman cities have you seen?
A bit like impressions games' Zeus, but 3D. I haven't watched the whole video, but on first impressions, looks nice.

By Mars!!! Bro isn't wearing glasses...whats next?
Haha I finally got a bigger screen and the green reflections were making my eyes disappear. Trying contacts for the first time.
Thanks Zakh
Oh my goodness! you can pet an ant 🤣😂
If I close my eyes it’s like you are playing C3
Is it anything like Caesar 3 ????
Bro, do u know something about realese Caesar V? Or that thing never be? :D

"Shut up and take my money"
So you're saying i can touch grass while playing videogames instead of going outside?
Where is your glasses?
I'm trying contacts.
Plz plz plz play the Rome remastered play though for c3!!! It’s amazing
Dude, stop beating around the bush. We want Caesar 3 Augustus. ;)

More like *touch grass* lol
So... Another classical era game that blatantly ignores the entire concept of slavery and how the entire social and economic civilization depended on it?
You fight a dragon in this my dude. If you're looking for history, find it in another game. This isn't classical era, it's fantasy era.
Hmmm visually it doesn't feel very Roman to me.

Ha Ha, the only flaw I see is that easy mode is too hard ....Fun game play GamerZakh. Going to the link .... Thanks!!
Manor Lords is still a better game than this tbh.
this looks so bad, like srsly
You should go let them know why then. Tell them what looks bad and they could fix or improve it. That can help make it a better game.
