Been watching you since 3.2k followers a little under two years ago. Always happy when a notification comes up for ITM13. Finally got myself a van myself, Ford Econoline E-350 high-top.Ill continue watching your videos for good advice and ideas on the van life. Cheers from Southern California.
if you ever decide to visit reelfoot lake in West Tennessee, largest eagle estuary in the northern hemisphere, get in touch. I build trailers and campers. I can fix the bike rack and cargo box. no charge for the labor. keep the videos coming.
This dude is adorable, I've watched so many videos , and while informative I can't watch because they are so bland. He's so relatable , and interesting to watch.
its so cool seeing this video after the first tour being the video that got myself and my wife addicted to your videos we also have to same van lol but you really helped us alot when we moved across the country! so thanks for everything.keep up the good work brotha
An alternative to foam is Italian Poplar plywood. I used to own a bass cab made from fibreglass but it gave problems with the driver coming loose. I then built my own bass cab that was exactly the same in every way except I used Italian Poplar instead of fibreglass. The end result was the Italian Poplar cab was only two pounds heavier at 43LBS. IP is a soft wood but if you brace it well it performs very well. Take care brother!
Glad to see you're happy with the new build. I'm setting off travelling round Europe in a few days in my self converted Transit van. I'm on build 2 and think I'm getting the hang of it all now, lots of trial and error with this!
Nice job on your van ! Iv been vaning for just under 14 years and I have 1989 dodge camper van with about 300,000 miles on it Iv rebuilt it 3 times from the bottom up and it's been repainted 2 times look's as good as the day I picked it up,is quite and rides very well .Iv saved and ass load of money. At some time I'll tell you all the cost's Iv SUB to your sit and have a blasé I have and no regrets made a ass load of cash and for the 2 no time going over seas. Not sure as of yet. Best of luck and all ways keep about 4 ,000 in the bank for repairs. And I'm a machine repair Tec. Again good luck have a ball.
your videos really inspire me! im converting my small nissan versa note into a solo road trip vehicle, something I can throw together, and take apart while im home! just to take out for weekends or weeks! should be awesome! and youre vids really push me to want to do it too! thanks, man!
You were so excited when you remember 'plasti-dip', lol. Cool set up though. I've seen your videos here and there, your contribution to #Vanlife is definitely up there with the best.
You are awesome dude. I like you. I have an astro and yes same thing, it's not all that convenient. But I made the mistake of making my bed too big. I made it smaller, and long ways, more room but I can just lay down. Like your van. 👍
PHPbb is the most reliable and secure forum, you webhost may even have and auto install for it, and then you just decide what forums you want. Setting it up is pretty straight forward.
I am thinking you are NOT utilizing your space - just an idea - turn your mattress the other way - with the highest part in the rear like an L shape sit on that and center your bench and get floor pillows and use it as a table - Your energy is terrific - we might meet up someday
Great looking van BUT on the fridge subject I use a elec cooler for $100 and I also have 2 deep cycle batts. w/ a solar panel on the roof you can put 2 up there .
Finally a tour of your van!!! Thanks so much for sharing it with us. When are you planning on being in the southwest? We're almost there, and can't wait to arrive.
You don't need a box for your dirty closes , on the back... use a net laundry bag so they can air and not get moldy. fresh air is good. Swivel seat in the front is 'smart' way to go. Van dweller lady, '88 Ford Econo. w/ new 351 cleveland engine etc. WORTH IT ' 1'
What year is your astro? Mine's a '95 and she's beautiful. Not as big as a sprinter, but my fiance and I are in love with her. She's going to give us lots of memories in our journey. Great van! It's adorable how happy you are about your van. Safe travels.
Into The Mystery 13 Wonderful! Looking forward to more videos soon from you. We take off in March so we dont have videos yet, but if you want to ever check us out, it's Comet's Tales.
Into The Mystery 13 Just curious. Is your Astro van awd or rwd? If only rwd, have you ever had to travel through areas with snow? If so, how did your van hold up to the winter weather? There's nothing out there on whether or not having a rwd van is ok to use in wintery regions compared to awd vans. :/ Been watching your videos from time to time. keep up the good work!
yo yo look into crystalline window tint for the front windshield....it's hot super high ir rejection. this film will help reduce the heat in the van. you'll love it.
+1 just for being completely upfront about your amazon affiliation. It's no bad thing, especially for someone like you who is doing it for products you're actually using. But so many people try and do it sneakily, so good job and kudos man! Also, nice job on the van, I agree with your final sentiment, a bigger van would be better. Not having to rearrange everything so you can do basic stuff like go to bed will make big differences. Personally, I couldn't live without being able to stand up in the van and probably couldn't live without a shower and toilet too I think. I'd go for a bed sideways across the back of the van at about waist height. Then you can use the entire area under the bed for storage, say long drawers on wheels. Build a plywood wall with a sliding door to separate the driver's cab. on one corner of that I'd build a waterpoof cubicle that I could shower in, and I'd have it just big enough to be able to stand in it with a portapotty on the floor. I'd probably put cushions on the bed and use that as the main comfy seating, maybe with a wool rug over the bedcovers that you just chuck on the floor when you want to sleep, but I'd definitely build a chair and table set that lies flat against the wall and folds out for when I need a desk. Then a good solar input and a decent mobile internet connection with good download allowances and I could definitely live full time in a van I think! In fact, looking at how much I've written, perhaps I've thought about this more seriously than I realise!!!!
Can't wait for forums, I should be tearing my stock 97 astro LS down to start insulation this week. I wonder how much of the bed frame I could make out of foam to cut down weight?
IKEA sells the trifold mattresses also I think. Awesome van. I'm so jealous. I would love to travel and do this. I'm 47 so I'm thinking I really want to do this before I get to the point I feel I'm too old to.
Ok Get some furniture polish and spray your boards that should help you sliding the wood in and out. Next time you pass a vacumn cleaner thrown away on the side of the road cut the cord off and you can make some handles to put on that bed drill 2 holes and run the cord through it and tie knots to get it to hold make 2 so you can balance it out. You want to Get a 40 gallon tote or a 50 gallon tote for the back rack that will give you all the space you need bring a tape measure so you know for sure you can see rear lights. TINT YOUR FRONT WINDOW THE BIG ONE there is a tint that cuts down on UV ! Get the 40-50 gallon tote you will have a lot more comfort also if you don't have the CASH to buy your new ride don't fall for the trap you will HATE it that you have to pay all that interest for a vehicle that plummets in value the moment you drive it off the lot. I weigh 350 and I use vacumn cleaner cords for hand holds for places I need help getting up. DEBT IS DUMB DUDE AND YOU SHOULD NOT USE DEBT UNLESS THERE IS NO OTHER WAY. You think it sucks now go rent a MC and return to that way for a week you will LOVE your van. Oh and about 1x a month RENT A HOTEL ! Do it on the beginning of the week when they are slow enjoy the grid tied life for a change. Try to get 2 days for the price of one mix it up with the hotel they offer you deals if you are going to be a repeat customer they want that kind of business. Also get a 250 watt solar panel they sell them for less than $200 much larger but they put out enough power to reduce your having to drive. Over time you will easily recoup your $200.
High top looks like the way to go! Bed on top always ready. Small RV living in general is kind of a pain. Limited storage and moving one thing to get to another all of the time. I've pretty well got my Casita dialed in but sometimes grrrr. 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
Any chance you will be coming through SW Utah? Or Vegas? One of these times, it would be awesome to meet up. No interest other than the human interest - not looking to interfere with your lady 🌞🌞🌞🌞🌞
i.e fridges best to keep at same cold temperature therefore probably need to have it plugged in 247 because if the temp varies up and down bacteria grow faster because their ideal temperature range keeps happening.
Hey Jed, thank you for posting these videos. You are very entertaining and informative. The link that you have up for the Mattress is for a 4 inch thick mattress not the 6 inch version that you have. If you update the link or add a link (soon) then I will buy the 6 inch version from your affiliated link. Thanks for all the awesome info! I want to build some cabinets out of foam board now! I am looking forward to seeing what kind of vehicle you get next, and more importantly...what you do with it.
breakfast is on me...I watched the 2:30 video completely before I started. enjoy the 85c :) trifold bed, same concept, different fold. mine lifts up and tilts back to form an A shape, secured to walls with sliding deadbolts. then both secured to each other - keeps it in the A shape. in the A are blankets, pillows and "fat puppy" a stuff-able plush dog from Oceanside CA thrift shop. during the day, I can be in either middle living room or wat back supply closet. storage under both living room and closet bed support platforms. and storage under mid "A" (accessible only when in "A" formation) stores long term or switch out stuff in milk crates. Salem! GuLu GuLu coffee shop (the dog).
Love your videos! I have been watching quite a few videos because I want to build my own camper. You commented about how much extra weight this build added. Have you considered drilling a bunch of holes in the plywood to lighten it a little? That is something I have seen in other builds.
Scott and I have discussed getting a van to eventually tow an RV, but until we can afford one, it would be a start. Plus we need a way to transport the yurt while we Park Host. I love the swivel chair and mattress! you have done a really great job. Did you do all the work yourself? good video. Thanks a Ren
Great job! very informative, I am making future plans for a build, alot to think about, this has been very helpful, and I think you did a really good job on video.
oh no I just recommended your van build to someone and at te end you said you want to get something else. ha. I like the safari type van for the fuel effeciency and affordability for someone dipping thier toes into van life for just weekend trips. i see what yoy mean about coverting the furniture, it would be nice to hve a dedicated kitchen area and bed always ready. any plans on what youll get? im teally liking the mid roof ford connects or transits. but still pricey. i also like that you talked about your web design career. havent heard much about it but hope its working out and at least paying the bills. id love to go full time and make money online.
Yu're an inspiration, I got me an astro awd and am in the process of turning it into stealth camper… my question has to do with daytime running lights, obviously if your stealth camping and you need to turn the vehicle on it's not very stealthy anymore cause the lights come on whether you want them to or not… how did you disable them and does an astro come with a low fuel warning light… just wondering I love your vids man very helpful I'm pulling out from Portland Oregon very soon.
+Make Colloidal Silver nice! Press the dome override button next to the headlight switch a couple times really fast and they should turn off until you restart the vehicle. There is probably a way to do it for good on thr astro safari forum. I've never ran that low on fuel, but im sure there is
Into The Mystery 13 you already have interesting content but occasionally your voice will slip into that character perfectly and it makes the videos just a bit better. Keep up the good work.
Hey man, I picked up 2x of these in series (I think) for 2x 224 A @ 6v = 224 Ah @ 12v. I think for the space it takes and the cost it might be your best option, yes it is still pricey but any 224Ah is going to cost you some bucks. Shop around and you might be able to get a good deal, the prices for these vary WILDLY: Fullriver AGM Battery DC224-6
+John Gagnon these ones don't put any out from what I understand. I was planning on mounting them to the frame anyway though to save space and have weight down low
Your such a pain in the ass, but I love you anyway haha. timing was bad- Money is tight, getting time off, van was running rough and I'd rather have a bigger one anyway. Can have 2-3 months together in a couple months vs 2 weeks now, lots of reasons it didnt work out as planned so we are trying again when it makes more sense.
I got bike holders for my hitch rack...came with 2 sets..I only need 1 set ..they bolt onto that type of rack...I'm in new england...you can have them if you want..we're are you.
+Brenda Trump yeah it makes a big difference. I dont feel the need to stand up completely, but the astro roof is very low and a high top would definitely be nice
I noticed you have a square white fan/vent on the outside roof top of your van. However, the inside of your van shows "no" opening for the vent. First, what made you decide to "not" cut through the roof and take advantage of the fresh air/fantasic fan? And second, aren't you afraid of water leakage into your van? For some reason I thought you had a fantastic fan through the roof towards the back doors of your van?
+Laura Bailey it is a fantastic fan, the opening is there it's just dark in that part of the van. Its sealed up pretty tight, im not worried about leaks :)
With all the extra weight what's the gas mileage? You should go to the ceiling with your side shelving on both side and then you would have that space u need to store things.
I'm on my iPad air and I can't seem to find how to get onto your page I typically follow on RUclips @random ? How do I get on your platelets?? Other than that carry-on my friend, I enjoy your videos carry-on Good job 😎🍷🇺🇸
Great stuff. Your content is superior! Thanks. Is there a products list on your website or channel? It would be super handy to be able to go to your list of products you use and recommend with the corresponding links to buy them.. Thanks again.
new subscriber here. ive got a 89 astro im going to start doing this to. But i think I'm not going to make anything out of wood except the bed frame. Wal mart sells those little plastic drawers for cheap . i got a quick question for you. Do you keep a water tank on bord??
I'm an amazon affiliate too and people think u make a SHIT ton of money for some reason. I make amazon 2k a month and maybe see $20+ bucks... You have to sell a SHIT TON of things to get your Referral Rate up, but then it resets at the end of the month.
this dude has got the right attitude
Been watching you since 3.2k followers a little under two years ago. Always happy when a notification comes up for ITM13. Finally got myself a van myself, Ford Econoline E-350 high-top.Ill continue watching your videos for good advice and ideas on the van life. Cheers from Southern California.

You said the web thing wasn't as easy as you thought but , wow, look at all you've done. Very impressive!
I've watched a lot of van videos but have defiantly learned the most from watching your videos. Really like how you have focused on weight reductions.
Jed - flannel jammie pants are the shizzle keep doing what you do. Love yourself!
Staying loose and cozy brethren :)
Already built my first ultra light foam cabinet. Great stuff.
This dude is adorable, I've watched so many videos , and while informative I can't watch because they are so bland. He's so relatable , and interesting to watch.

Oh yeah, trial and error is part of the game! Have a blast in Europe!
I like how you keep mentioning the foam board/fiberglass screen furniture. that stuff is a game changer
Your van is set up so nice. Very cozy

Your van looks very nice. Good job.
Awesome tip on using vinegar to clean dishes.
+Ty Brady it changes my life
"Vintage Condom Collection?" HaHaHa! I replayed 3 times...?
Hopefully none are used. lol :-)
lukngud same 😂
Wow this is such a huge change!!
Probably January or February :)
Vintage condom collection..haha! Very clever setup and really like the fairy lights!
You don't need a box for your dirty closes , on the back... use a net laundry bag so they can air and not get moldy.
fresh air is good.
Swivel seat in the front is 'smart' way to go.

rub a bar of soap against the boards in your bed extension where they bind. it provides lubrication without the mess
you and your videos are rad dude! I like your enthusiasm and hi energy.
yo yo look into crystalline window tint for the front windshield....it's hot super high ir rejection. this film will help reduce the heat in the van. you'll love it.
+Max el kacemi will do, thanks man!
I'd go for a bed sideways across the back of the van at about waist height. Then you can use the entire area under the bed for storage, say long drawers on wheels. I just found you- and omg, this is a dream setup. Thank you for vlogging it all!

Love the set up. I'll be soon joining the vanlife awesome build
Hell yeah man, maybe I’ll see you out there somewhere

Sorry you don't like how the van ended up man you're next one will be dope I'm sure!!
It's still a good set up though man!! God job keep doing you!!

Hey Jed, thank you for posting these videos. You are very entertaining and informative.
The link that you have up for the Mattress is for a 4 inch thick mattress not the 6 inch version that you have. If you update the link or add a link (soon) then I will buy the 6 inch version from your affiliated link.

trifold bed, same concept, different fold.

during the day, I can be in either middle living room or wat back supply closet.
storage under both living room and closet bed support platforms.

Excellent video what are top 5 tips for avoiding mold over time?
Nice van new subscriber from Ireland
+Tech Talks wow awesome! Welcome to the channel!
Any of your vids show how you installed the curtain rail for the privacy? Interested to see where you bolted it to on the astro

I know someone who had one of these era Astro vans with ( I think) around 350-400k miles on it and they drove it to the junk yard.. lol seriously.
+I Be Trollin' They Be Hatin' ive heard of such things!
enjoyed your video.
Nice work
you sound like that dude on American Dad who was married to Haley

Daniel Caprar this is by far the best comment I've read in a while!!
Into The Mystery 13 you already have interesting content but occasionally your voice will slip into that character perfectly and it makes the videos just a bit better. Keep up the good work.
+Daniel Caprar hahahahahaha will do!
Haha damn that's spot on
Hey man, I picked up 2x of these in series (I think) for 2x 224 A @ 6v = 224 Ah @ 12v. I think for the space it takes and the cost it might be your best option, yes it is still pricey but any 224Ah is going to cost you some bucks. Shop around and you might be able to get a good deal, the prices for these vary WILDLY: Fullriver AGM Battery DC224-6
+John Gagnon ill check em out, thanks! Walmart has 100 ah group 29 marine deep cycles for about $100 they are not agm though
Fumes! Don't do it, unless you want to maintain and feel safe putting tgem on your bike rack!
I think you guys will be fine, don't sweat it. No need to rush it.
Nice tour man! Your rig looks sweet. How long have you been full timing? I'm def gonna check out the build videos.
just found your vids ... fellow Oregonian
+Charles Clark right on! What part?
grew up in Dallas ... smallish town west of Salem up 22
Great video! New subby from Nebraska
+Lola Johnson woohoo welcome Lola
I got bike holders for my hitch rack...came with 2 sets..I only need 1 set ..they bolt onto that type of rack...I'm in new england...you can have them if you want..we're are you.
Sweet vid.
If you do get a bigger van, would you get one with a higher roof?
+Brenda Trump definitely! If i find a good deal on for this van ill jump on it
I watched a video today where a girl bought a regular extended van and had a fiberglass roof put in. She went from crouching to standing comfortably.
+Brenda Trump yeah it makes a big difference. I dont feel the need to stand up completely, but the astro roof is very low and a high top would definitely be nice
Maybe you're ready for a small RV, worth checking out.
Happy Holidays : )
I noticed you have a square white fan/vent on the outside roof top of your van. However, the inside of your van shows "no" opening for the vent. First, what made you decide to "not" cut through the roof and take advantage of the fresh air/fantasic fan? And second, aren't you afraid of water leakage into your van? For some reason I thought you had a fantastic fan through the roof towards the back doors of your van?
+Laura Bailey it is a fantastic fan, the opening is there it's just dark in that part of the van. Its sealed up pretty tight, im not worried about leaks :)
Very nice
You can buy a new van for $3600? What fantasy world are you living in? Loved the foam cab vid with the paper bag treatment.
+Jack George new to me*
I just did a tour of my short bus conversion! You would have done a much better job. Maybe next year.
With all the extra weight what's the gas mileage? You should go to the ceiling with your side shelving on both side and then you would have that space u need to store things.
If you are running out of content, I would like a review on promaster, transit, NV3500, and sprinter large vans. You can test drive for free.
I'm on my iPad air and I can't seem to find how to get onto your page
I typically follow on RUclips @random ?
How do I get on your platelets??
Other than that carry-on my friend, I enjoy your videos
carry-on
Good job
😎🍷🇺🇸
Great stuff. Your content is superior! Thanks. Is there a products list on your website or channel? It would be super handy to be able to go to your list of products you use and recommend with the corresponding links to buy them.. Thanks again.
+Radnally I have a few listed in my shop on the website. Thats a great idea though, I will do that with in the next couple days
That's cool.
cool
your hair looks great! LOL
it was just my first thought :)
cool video bud I just subscribed
Love it man
Where is the video on the fridge setup with the thermostat turning on the inverter? I think your website might be down.
new subscriber here. ive got a 89 astro im going to start doing this to.
+Daily Roe right?
Hey I have a question. What is the brand name, etc of the blackout cloth you're putting on the back of the reflectix in the Windows? Thanks.
You are so handsome .. and you should sooo do a video on your vintage condoms how neat!
