    Good that Dr. Swamy has talked about agamas and topography. But effects of those depend upon duration of exposure and also the physical condition of the body. A lot can be debated over that. But, one must focus on why especially in Sabarimala the deity of Ayappa is consecrated as an eternal Brahmachari. The rituals include that men follow the path of Brahmacharya for over a month to visit Ayappa in Sabarimala. In this way, men are taught en masse the technique of controlling their hormone. Male hormonal drive is very powerful and is necessary to preserve the species. But, unbridled drive of male hormone is not good for the society. And Sabarimala gives them the space to practice that control. Hence, the house rule of Ayappa there is to disallow women of reproductive age. This is a practical solution and all women I know agree that it is good for men to practice control over their hormone and all women I know are willing to give men that space. Similarly, entry of men are restricted where some feminine aspect is invoked. When more than 99.99% temples are open for all genders, what is this hoopla all about? I would even suggest that men from other communities like the bishops and moulavis should also come to Sabarimala and practice control over their hormones.

      Very good point of view. There are several temple shrines where men are prohibited by traditions of the shrines.
      We the visitors have to respect the traditional will of the deity of the shrine and not the other way around. We can move around to other places of worship, whereas the deities are enshrined and immovable. In Jagganath Puri, non Sanathani Pilgrims are not allowed. This is a tradition borne after several attempt by Muslim Rulers to destroy the idols.
      I think that the SC has erred in passing a verdict on the Sabrimala tradition.
      It's like a woman demanding her fundamental right to enter a men's only massage parlour.

    I remembered after seeing this video. Years ago just after my marriage, we 3 friends with our wives decided on a weekend from Bombay to Lonawala. We went on a trek to Kalea Caves. My wife in the meanwhile had her menses. She suffered from cramps but kept going, not being a spoilsport. I cannot forget the ordeal she had climbing the hill to the caves. It was a lesson for me, which I never forgot.

    Absolutely true ,someone who observe do clear research will only know the truth of it . right now the whole education system was discouraging you to seek and explore life, that is why some people are becoming ignorant of these knowledge. Being a malayali girl I know the importance of the temple not only me but many girls know here very well about it. but some people indently want it to be destroyed and wanted to take advantage of some peoples lack of knowledge about this tradition and trying to give a title as a discrimination against women which can easily works on who pretends to be feminist but really don't know what actually feminism really meant.

    Dr Swamy referred to a scientific approach. There was a Dr Nisha Pillai who did publish her views (in Malayalam)which I summarize
    - Ayyapa’s prana pratistha’s is that of a Yogic deity that cause the prana Vayu to ascend..the intense vrata prescribed to go there, the tantric rituals and the energy field present near the temple causes the upward movement of prana through the chakra’s… the 18 steps symbolizes one attaining Tat twam asi is the concept of Ayyapa shrine, who is also known as Harihara Sudhan.. the son of Vishnu and Shiva - the interplay of ida and pingala nadi causing the evolution of the atma. This is the reason that so many millions devotees go there every year.... devotees of all faith
    - A menstruating woman during their periods is subject to a natural downward energy flow described in Ayurveda as prasuthi apana vayu
    - Hence women visiting Sabarimala temple where heightened upward energy field may cause harm for women leading to infertility, health of progeny
    - In Ayurveda, Prasuthi Tantra is akin to gynecology and there are explanations of udana and apana and requirement of how women must handle their pre-natal, childbirth and post- partum phases
    - There is nothing impure in this natural biological event. The liberal and leftist outbursts are just another effort to denigrate Hinduism as mumbo-jumbo
    I do not know how many women will want to do intense Yoga during menstruation with this knowledge. .. that is the bottom line and also the explanations for this ground swell of support by women with their “ready to wait” movement

  • @jagathmithya719
    @jagathmithya719 5 лет назад +3

    It is interesting that Swamy has changed his view (citing an unscientific “belief” promoted - obviously not by a physicist - but laughably, by a software developer). As he is a Tamil I would have expected him to know more about Ayappan than Indians from far away states. As he did not exhaustively or sufficiently or even clearly analyse the pros and cons of Hindu rituals associated with deities such as Ayapan , it is my view that he still doesn’t really understand what the Naistika Brahmachari Ayyapan is all about, and is happy to jump into the Hindu bandwagon, citing bogus claims in order to be on the winning side for political advantage. Surely, change of mind (which I welcome) requires a far more intellectually convincing argument!

    • @Iamlatha
      @Iamlatha 5 лет назад +1

      Jagath Mithya, Yes. It is very "intellectually convincing" that Ayyappa, the Naishtika brahmachari {a theory conceived by Rahul Easwar & parroted by people like you. It is written nowhere BTW} will swoon & *lose* his *virginity* as soon as he sees a fertile woman. lololol. Health issues related to trekking the hill is very well known for years. If you didn't know, it is neither the fault of the software Engg nor of Su Swamy. One doesn't need to be a physicist to know this. Past experience is enough. Rules were made from past experiences & we trust them. Everyone need not be a physicist in order to understand these things.

    • @jagathmithya719
      @jagathmithya719 5 лет назад +1

      @@Iamlatha Who is Rahul Easwar? I don't follow him. It sounds like you are a feminist follower of Swamy. There is no written history about Sabarimala but the tradition has been going on for centuries. This is fertile ground for non-devotee troublemakers to make up their own kinked interpretation on the practices and history of the place, which is precisely what you and your cohorts are doing. The only people who can do this belong to the long lineage of devotees. So please leave it to them and don't interfere where you have no business. Sabarimala is a place for devotees and believers. Definitely not a place for non-devotees.
      Btw have you seen at least the image of Ayappan of Sabarimala? Please try to find its significance.

    His courage to admit a fact is welltaken. But, why he like a genius is misinformed on such sn age-old practise of kerala thanthra which is purely based on tantric practises uniquely for kerala? How come a lady from the US informed him on one weak aspect ehich restrict entry of women there? Please be noted that even pregnent women can enter there. There are customs which are not known to many due to other reasons. Are we malayalis are so dumb so as not to inform such matters to a great persob like Dr.Swamy or are we so dumb that we are not aware of such practises? Please be remember that it is not the matter of gender equality or fatigue. There are other reasons which may explain in terms of practises,rituals and beliefs.

    I sometimes think everyone is trying to trigger this topic again and again. Like its been said, gender equality is existantially wrong. If somebody supports gender equality, they'll be catogarized as adharmic person. Its because first, we have to follow the natural laws of valued interaction of masculine feminine. Which means they shouldn't openly interact unless they are related directly. If done so, they'd be devaluing the principles laid down by gender which deems attraction. There is no "refraining oneself and ignoring the gender" part because that devalues the very behavioral nature of how both genders should be with each other existantially. Therefore, women and men both working together in public sphere or communicating is highly restricted. Adaptibility is only within strategical sphere, we cannot convert the core principles itself that act as standard. Thats like turning the wrong way and say we're adapting. Only worsens things
    Both if its absolutely important that both gender must have atleast some respective fields they can expertise or aspire upon. In ancient india, the women usually focused on aesthetical aspects of life such as classical singing, dancing, cooking, designing etc with difficulty involved. No convenient tools used. So there's no imbalance in quantity physical work with their respective fields.
    Men used to involve in public sphere and work related to that. So both aesthetical and functionalities of a society were well balanced as well as progressed. When we say general principles, it was contextually addressed as vidhi and restrictive principles represents niyati which is a situational wise action. Enlightened brahmana who has complete understanding of vedas would gather and decide judgements of laws after grasping and accessing abstractions.
    All of these bought gender nature balance, social balance and economical as well as employment balance that matched well with their family function and roles. If people are still requesting gender equality out of some post modern notions, all I can say is then no one in both genders should ever interact, marry or have children. Apply that to everyone and tell them all to turn into some buddhist sages. If thats not socially possible then don't bring gender equality. Because we aren't functionally nor role wise the same so natural behaviors has to be arranged and complimented as such. One concerning with household related and another in civilization social and public sphere. But both must be existantial and spiritual

    Yes it was a tribal temple run by malayarans the hilly people.
    They were doing chathan seva and it was going well. When brahmins claimed they can do the rituals better the less knowledgeable malayarans handed over the charge for rituals to the brahmins and after that they lost all power on the temple.
    The brahmins changed many things about the temple like killing rooster during rituals and also the story of the presiding deity and thus the deity is no longer known as chathan. The first step of the 18 steps of the Ayyappan temple has been turned so that the bottom side is now facing upwards. If it is digged and removed you will find the bottom side inscription reading the name of which malayaran donated that stone.
    The Adimargi Chandala Baba who is the descendent of the malayaran tribe is requesting that this truth be known so that history is respected and justice be done.
    When the tantris who have taken up the temple can now present themselves as the rightful priests of the tradition of women entry and seek justice that tradition be respected without infringement by the honourable court and government it is time they introspect and do justice by returning the temple to the malayarans of Sabarimala.

    Malai Arayan / Malayaraya / Malai Arayar
    Excerpts from a work produced for the Mahatma Gandhi University Kottayam:
    4.9.1 The Worship of the Sasta
    The worship of the Sasta constitutes an important feature of the religion of the Malai Arayan. They worships the deity at Sabarimala and Arakulam. The worship at Sabarimala betrays many animistic features. The deity receives offerings from his votaries annually. The annual festival falls on the thirteenth of January and continues for five days. The Sasta is very frigid and rigid in his tastes and expects a high standard of purity in his votaries for fourteen days, during which they abstain from meat and sex. The Malai Arayans go in batches, led by Penaswamy, who is the head of the fraternity. During the period of abstinence, they propitiate Sasta, Karuppuswami, Kachukadutha, Ganapathi and the crests of hills.
    On the eve of their march to Sabarirnala, all the votaries put their kit together. A huge fire is lit at a distance. As the votaries circumambulate the fire, all of them get possessed. Their oracular utterances are considered to be the voice of the God or spirit dwelling in him and speaking through him. It is only when the frenzied Ayyappan passes through fire that his utterances are accepted. Otherwise. they are not given heed to. After taking part in Penafhullal,which is an interesting ceremony at Erumeli on the 27'th Dhanu (January 10th), they begin their march to Sabarimala in easy measured stages at noon the next day and reach Azhutha in the evening.
    On the way, they offer fried rice and molasses to the crag in the Peruthode stream, the supposed resting place of Sasta. On the evening the 29th of Dhanu (January 12th) they reach the banks of the Pamba. At Kallidamkunnu, a small pebble is dropped over the crest of the hill to prevent the Asura, who haunts the place from coming out and harming them. The Pambavilakku is a magnificent sight at night on account of the illuminations and is considered to be in honour of Sasta, who is said to be cooking his food and dining among the Ayappans that night in disguise and resting there on his way to Sabarimala.
    The next morning the votaries arrive at the Sabarimala Pagoda, break a coconut on reaching Pathinetampadi, (18 steps) and adore the deity. They make offerings to Kochukadutha and Karuppuswami. At night comes Makaravilakku,when a procession is taken out from the shrine of Malikappurathamma to Ayyappan's shrine with the accompaniment of illuminations. Next morning, they bathe in Orakuzhithirtham and enjoy a sumptuous repast. They then return home. Sasta's boons to the votaries are phenomenal and enlarge the circle of his votaries. He protects them fro111 all adversities in the jungle and averts all calamities (Iyer 1937: 193).
    4.9.2 Lord Ayyappa and Malai Arayans
    The Malai Arayan Nattu Pattu deals at length with their special relationship with Lord Ayyappa. The Malai Arayans held sway over Karimala and Chinganpara when Rajasekhara Raja was the suzerain of Pandalam. At that time, the Maravans, a savage people, were a menace to the Pandalam Rajah as well as to the Arayans. The Karimala Arayan Rajah adopted and fostered a boy of the Ulladan tribe and trained him in all martial arts in order that he might take over the marauding Maravans. He was made the captain of the army.
    This Ulladan captain was attracted by the exquisitely beautiful daughter of the Rajah of Pandalam. He waxed eloquent about her physical accomplishments before the Kari...(more)
