This may be my favorite version of "La Folia" to date. To create a unique and engaging 18 minute long piece out of a simple chord progression just shows what a masterful composer he was. I never lost interest during a single one of these variations.
"Steve, I was glad to read your comment on La grotta di Trofonio by Salieri, whom I played in the film “Amadeus.” As you might imagine, I’m extremely defensive about him. I once arranged an evening of music by both Mozart and Salieri, to be performed without identifying each piece’s composer. The audience members were quizzed afterward, and they could not decide which was which. The process of canonization is often considered to be akin to evolution, whereby the fittest survive, and the cream rises to the top. The truth is more complex, and circumstances having little to with artistry are often decisive in establishing an artist’s place in history. Do we like Mozart the most because his music is superlative? Or because his portrayal as a towering genius is so pervasive in our culture that we listen to him with reflexive deference? It may be impossible to know. Best regards, F. Murray Abraham (New York City)"
This is a wonder, is the perfect bridge between the Baroque, the Classicism and the Romanticism.

What does variation mean in classical music?

One of my favourite pieces (incredibly), I just realized that the manuscript video by Bartje is not online anymore. Thank you! :)
Time to fix that - I have re-done it and just need to upload it... soon.

Beautiful. I know Beethoven also included a Folia variation in his 5th, but here I can also hear his 9th! Amazing Salieri.

BRAVO! I once received a wonderful letter about Salieri: "

7:45, 8:32 philip glass moment
Horn/stings /strings horns
philip glass does not even compete in the slightest with salieri's ability in composition
@@Whatismusic123 ok
