  • I upgraded my i5 Gigabyte Brix Pro with a Noctua fan. How did I do it? Was it worth it? Take a look and find out.

I notice a dramatic improvement in temperature when replace the stock fan with noctua. But my son still experience overheat. The Brix shut off during game play.

y not change out heatsink as well? might take more tinkering to get it on properly + a noctua fan, it should run way cooler.

did this reduce the overall fan noise as well? mine is so loud almost all the time. I've just delt with it for years, but thinking about finally doing something about it

why are you blowing air out of the top instead of sucking air in?

I was thinking the same thing. And some of those noctua extension wires have speed reduction. So maby the fan speed is less than optional.
So I would flip the fan upsidedown and get rid of the extension part and mod the original wire.
If that would not help then I would look if your thermalpaste application is optimal.

The BRIX fan blows the same way and directs that air out the back of the case, so I'm assuming that's why Nexus One installed the Noctua fan in that way.
I agree with madvelila: I would flip the fan, so fresh air is flowing into the case and over the fins. (plus layering a couple dryer sheets to act as a dust filter)

Nexus One, Please could you tell me how you figured out how to match up the Noctua wires with the splice you made? I got my fan and have researched a bit, but Brix has 4 black wires, so, no help with the Noctua's Yellow, Black, Green, Blue. Any help appreciated, Thank you, johnm

@@DarkoStojchev I can tell you how I figured it out. My brix is buttoned up pretty good with duct tape etc. What I did was looked for a replacement fan on a Chinese website, exact match name and volt/amps. I'm sure I googled it. I probably found 4 or five different sites with the exact replacement. There was one site that chowed the fan and had a little magnified section of the colored wires and i just followed that. Sorry I can't tear apart my rig but it was absolutely and excellent choice Noctua. Also make sure you have the 5 volt fan I had to return the 12volt and get the 5 the board gives 5 volts for the little fan. Good Luck!
