The solo at 25:06 is sublime. Such control of the altissimo. The interplay with Pablo Menares brings a smile to his face in the midst of it. Superb. Then at 26:55 Lage Lund adds a dash of spice that propels things. So much interplay. Wow.
Just hearing this for the first time, and I am positively in love with her sound and this music. Especially love the fact she's playing her grandfather's Mark VI and is a third-generation sax player.
Too good for my ears . Almost turned off after five minutes as it sounded meaningless-then it gradually all made sense and became gripping . Very clever reed control and understanding of technique to obtain an effect of space time and distance . Excellent Jonny UK
I was visiting Chicago just before the pandemic during the annual Jazz festival and there was this sax lady from Chile that played amanzingly and reminded me of her... I feel some hispanic accent from her - I wonder if it is the same person!!! I never took note of that female sax player and omg Melissa is soooo great ❤❤❤❤🇧🇷🇧🇷
I love a piano-less quartet. Nothing wrong with piano, but with guitar (like the Chico Hamiton quintets). The music is more harmonious, less percussive. The guitar is more melodious. Apart from that Melissa is fantastic here!
killer playing all around, she looks like she might have been watching some mark turner concerts. I know when I do I start to bounce on stage a lot more like that too hah
But she comes here an Is considered the best female saxaphonist? No candy duffer is a much better, janette harris wud even be considered better, the US is good for giving alcolades to someone other than a US misician there props..when they speak of best male saxaphonist they even leave out the late grover Washington jr ..Thjs judgment thing is subjective
@@jaketaz8741 Candy Dulfer is a smooth jazz/pop musician. Melissa plays Contemporary Jazz/Modern Post Bop. They are not even the same style of music. The only thing the same here is they are both female. The changes Melissa plays over are far more advanced. Who you like is preference, which makes music fun, but please understand they don't play the same style of music, that's just absurd.
It honestly didnt sound good to me, she looks like shes straining in the begining id say she shud be using a lower reed or a jody jazz* for jazz , i feeling candy duffer aud have done a much better job
13:35 is the start to one of the most whacked out solos I ever heard. Weird chord voicings etc. Like the guitarist is trying to push the envelope, but the envelope is empty and postage is due. 1000 & 1 chord books must be on his bookcase.
Melissa is officially my favorite tenor player for 2024! Her sound is magical. Touches my soul. Thank you
Mellisa y su grupo es lejos lo mejor que he escuchado en mucho tiempo....
Melissa you are a sunshine for your daughter et for the music. Lage Lund is more than good. All the quartet is marvellous

Melissa is my favorite contemporary soloist. Every line composed. Eery line organic and flowing. All with logic.

I thought maybe a super balance...cer🎉tainly a Selmer...with a custom neck....Great real music :-)
Absolute TOP!
Amazing artistry & creativity.....BRAVO...
Absolutely Splendid Quartet! - Thanks for upload

A los 12 años empezo sus presentaciones en chile esta chica chilena
Grande Melissa
Cada vez mejor!!..que sonido!!..felicitaciones lluviosas!
Wow. One of the best of this generation. I can see such similarities to Mark Turner. Really wasting not one note or measure. So thoughtful.
Impecable
Felicitaciones, Melissa!! Un saxofón que transmite mucho y un magnífico cuarteto.
Maestra Melissa !!!!!!

@Raphael She is Chilean, too. You may have seen her play during then!
Terrific sound and phrasing! Does anybody know what mouthpiece she is playing on?
I think she's still playing on a matt marantz
I sure hope it's this band I am seeing in a month in Newport. Spectacular!!!!!!
What's the name of the drummer again?

🎷🎼🔥🎶
like joshua redman
BMF right there
It's weird when she plays it kind of sounds like an alto at some moments and tenor at others it's interesting
sounds like seamus blake in the first tune
Please update the thumbnail - Melissa is not a guitarist or bassist 🙄
Uf,oigo su sutil y subrepticia cita a un latinizado Garbarek resumiendo la nórdica tundra.
A great chilean musician, never appreciated in her country. What a shame!!

Somehow Melissa, I think you will have a daughter named Amelia.
Ben weñdel copy cat..one more that practice to sound like someone else
