    I don't love this new trend of youtube instructors apparently recommending the "strong-arm" approach again. I don't know if they've run out of ideas and need some clicks but it's so counter-productive to what's been taught for the past few years. Thanks for continuing to provide useful content!

      I don't think Overthrow meant like only use the arm, just that it needs to be involved if that makes sense. At least that's what I took from it.

    • @man0utoftime
      @man0utoftime 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@jjhill001 I agree. It's been a minute since I watched that video. My takeaway was that power still comes from the ground up, but the arm meaningfully contributes in the end. Mr. Slingshot seems to be taking things a little personally.

    • @jjhill001
      @jjhill001 6 месяцев назад

      @@man0utoftime Even the coached guy in the example. The main difference in the before and after is that before the arm is kinda doing its own thing and the body is just kinda hoping. The second video is just his arm working in concert with the body in a much more fluid and efficient way than prior. So in a way I think slingshot is right because for the vast majority of us the body is the primary problem. I do think there is a bit of silly intentional drama going on here cause like obviously if you only look at that ONE video yeah its probably bad advice thats gonna hurt you. However that was the final video in a series about building your form from the ground up which was almost all about body and how to transfer to the disc. I think it was like hey you focused on your body the past whole month you might have gotten more consistent and a bit more distance and you think your form is good but you arent getting the distance you thought you would, remember you actually have to throw the dang thing.

      @@man0utoftime it seems like every other OT video is a response to slingshot. That’s just part of being a form coach. You have to correct a lot of bad habits and you get a lot of questions about it so it’s just easier to put it in a video.

    2024 is My year!! I just got a new gym membership. Its an all womens gym cause its cheaper for a membership. so I have been taking estrogen to look more womanly lately. Found out the estrogen has helped my form on disc golf too . Making me way more flexible and making my chest bigger . That seems to have balanced out my weight distribution a bunch since one of my legs is a few inches shorter than the other. Thanks for the new video!

  • @jjoelson
    @jjoelson 6 месяцев назад +2

    I think the Overthrow guys were being a bit click-baity when they said you should “arm the disc”. Actually watching their videos, what they seemed to mean is that the arm shouldn’t be a limp noodle that just gets pulled along by the body rotation. They weren’t saying that the *power* of the throw comes from the arm, but rather that you need to have some amount of activity with the arm to make sure it gets to the right place at the right time in order to transfer the power from the legs and core into the disc.

  • @hcrubjeff

    I totally agree that arming the disc will lead to injuries. Casual disc golf players can still get serious injuries, and poor form is a one way ticket to injury.

      What do you think 72 bad throws in 1 day with bad form is if not overexertion?
      And yea. I'm including putts because there's loads noobs that pop their elbow on putts cuz bad form causing elbow problems on top of the shoulder problems they're gonna get 😂

    • @yoyoninjaboy6431
      @yoyoninjaboy6431 6 месяцев назад

      @@ViJt-oq5nq 72 throws is like a mild to moderate exercise. The only thing a beginner needs to learn is how to snap the disc and they can have fun throwing 250-300 with however their body sets up naturally. Same thing with putts and pop for push putting or snap for spin putting. The only injury risk is thinking you'll throw 400 randomly if you can just dig deep enough and tense up super hard. I've been there. It sucks but its obvious that something is wrong when it hurts to throw hard and you should stop doing that.

    • @ViJt-oq5nq
      @ViJt-oq5nq 6 месяцев назад

      @@yoyoninjaboy6431 It will be mild exercise if you don't arm it lol.
      I will agree to disagree in thinking 72 strong armed throws is mild for a beginner.
      Specially when MLB guidelines wants school and pro pitchers to take a 3-4 days rest after 70 pitches... And those are people with actual form.
      On top of how often we hear side arm throws causing shoulder injuries.
      Proper not arming the disc back hand form, I can use Ezra's video as a 3rd party example, your upper arm and chest always maintain a 90 degree angle from reach back to the throw. There almost no movement in the shoulder socket till you start the follow through where you are now decelerating, hence no sore shoulder.

    I think something ItzB1itz pointed out recently that is a key not being discussed enough is people that sit all day (like myself) lose core strength and the lower back takes over. Idk if people realize how easy it is to lose strength for muscles you never use 😅
    If people want optimal disc golf form, they need to start building strength and flexibility. There’s no way around it.

      @@OneFocusPhotos do this, and you will improve. Go look up "Disc Golf Clinic with Paul Ulibarri and Brian Earhart". Watch that, get it figured out, that will give you the solid foundation to build on. That should already put you over 200. Then come back here, start at the beginning, and tweak to really maximize the slingshot. If you do what they're saying, I guarantee you'll see a difference. Also, if you're not already, throw putters. Don't throw anything else until you're throwing putters 200'. They will show where your form needs work, if you're angles are bad, etc. And film yourself. You might think you're doing things you're not, or think you're not doing things you are. You need to see what you're actually doing.

    You helped get me over 400 feet, and I thank you for that, but you've just left the reservation, in my opinion. All of these "levers", including "deep pocket", have their place. For disc golfers, sometimes stepping to the right with your plant foot is correct. Sometimes, not straightening your right arm during the reachback is correct. There are many shots, and many variables that can be adjusted. Best wishes with your endeavors, I know you mean well.

    Dude, I just want to facepalm at every one of your videos I see that are trying to debunk what other coaches say. You just take their argument to the extreme without nuance, make it a straw man, and then debunk it while acting like that is what they believe.
    This video is a perfect example. You show the dude man at 4:02 as an example of "arming the disc". Yet this is exactly what Overthrow was trying to FIX by saying "arm the disc". Dude man's power pocket is completely collapsed, the shoulder angle is like 60°. What Overthrow is saying is no amount of lower body spinning faster will fix that, you have to (in a sense, not how you mean it though) "arm the disc" to get the angle to 90°+.
    Please take time to think about things carefully and with nuance next time before you make a video about it.

    I don't know who gives the most helpful disc golf advice, but I'm open to anyone's.
    Been playing for 20 years. Reached 300 within my first summer of serious dedication, and I don't get very far past that no matter what I try.
    (Might have hit 350 a few rare times)
    But the quest will continue. I've never lost the desire to try and hit 350 consistently, touch 400, start going 400 at will, reach 500, etc!
