I've been struggling with getting my feet offset without totally messing up my aim and my last step, and that angled stick idea is perfect. Feet step along the angled line, disc travels back and forth on the throw line. I come from a ball golf background so of course I struggled with keeping everything parallel with my line, getting the disc stuck behind my body, not getting my feet offset. I just grabbed a tent pole from my garage as an angled line tool and I can already tell it's helping me tremendously.
Yea dude, I figured this out pretty recently too, more so cuz my flexibility has improved from drills letting this be possible. What's also neat is you can actually use your reach back to aim your forward trajectory since the disc will be traveling along your reach back line, given your keeping it 90.
So I just watched myself throw into a net, and both my feet are pointing severly out. This might be a big gamechanger for me. Thank you for making this video!
I recorded simon & eagle and other pros and drew lines on their feet & knee positions on my phone. THen i went out and did the same on my form. After the mental breakdown I started fixing it in standstill for like 4 months and now after 9 months I throw 100 feet farther with two steps and "slow" form than I did before. Loopghost also has some really good stuff on this matter. Just pointing your knees together makes a stupidly big difference (In my certaintly not pro experience ofc)
bro... what the heck... I've been told to heel to toe stager when I throw since day one... I've always thought that that was a strange and unathletic stance but I kept doing it... it is so frustrating having inconsistent back hand... I don't know what to say but thank you again... tomorrow I'm gonna work on this diagonal stance throw... I'm excited
My next pay check I’m gonna pay for the lessons! I’ve been slowly realizing that in order for me to form good habits with my form I literally have to spend 1-2weeks focused on only one change in my form. Right now the form I have I can hit 270-300 depending consistently. Last week I was working on foot work and now this week I’m starting to focus on hitting my power pocket correctly and if I come across any lower during my sling forward the disc doesn’t go as far. I like how you mentioned you’ll break it down step by step so sounds like it’s right up my alley with working on one thing each week. My goal is to hit 500 consistently
I enjoy your videos and have found some of your tips very helpful, but I'm not sure about this one. Part of the reason you step out/stagger your stance is so that you create space to pull the disc through the power pocket. If your feet/knees are perfectly aligned, I think you're more likely to round the disc which is detrimental to distance. The first image you show of Paul McBeth clearly demonstrates the opposite of what you're teaching in this video, his front foot is clearly not aligned with his back foot. Still appreciate the uploads though 👍
Hah! Thats me. Legs are crazy open like I'm riding a horse! Your right about rushing the throw. I feel like I have to get rid of the disc before I even have the front foot down. Why do we do that? What makes me want to land with my foot so wide open? I go from back right to front left with every shot. I bet I'm way off my line of flight and it must force me to relaese real early to some how get back on line. thanks for posting.
i have to try this bcuz Lizotte always says heel to toe and the further you separate the further you throw "and so ive had a staggered stance" but i think he was trying to say it the way youre saying it .. its like disc golf is counter-intuitive where if you dont say something with complete and full context you can misinterpret what the coach or player is trying to teach you! thank you for the complete and full context!
I have been on the grind every day for 2 years improving my coaching. I think I know the video your talking about. I was not paying attention to the details back then. Sorry
So I’ve improved my accuracy and distance some as I’m learning your techniques. Still a long road ahead. Can’t wait to work with this as I’ve been in the heel/toe stance. My question…. I stopped the X-step & just standing still until I get better as I’m not throwing any farther using it. I’m more focused on basics. At what point should I add it back in to my throws & will it really make a huge difference? I’ve been down the RUclips/disc golf rabbit hole and your videos are the first that I really understood clear & have actually made a difference in my game! Thanks!
I have had long periods of stand-stills only for like 3-4 months. And it has helped tremendously. And now I almost only do like a single x-step to throw almost max distance. Having a proper runup gives me like ~10m (33ft) more distance 15% of the time.. so yeah, slow down is a really good idea.
Have been working on form and only throwing standstill. I don’t do a walk up anymore because I am a lot more consistent and have more power at a standstill. I do not think I am ready to implement a walkup, however, how would you implement the walkup? What teaching would you do? I’m trying to wrap my mind around it as I get too analytical with this. Thank you for the videos!

Same for me. I was trying walk up from the beginning, but last months, I only do standstill. I feel more accurate. Also better focusing on engaging legs and hips. Now I'm trying only the last step... Maybe this could be the way?
I'd just start by taking one step (the last step). How do you get more power throwing any object? You step into the throw and follow through. Once you feel good with your timing taking one step, then move on to a slow x-step. I'm guilty of trying to x-step too early and throwing wild.
This reminds me of a video Ulibarri made with Adam Hammes and Anthony Barela, where Barela mentions that your knees should be on the same line. Can't remember the exact wording, but it fits perfectly with this concept.
Wow total game changer for me! 🎉 I feel so much stronger doing this and there's almost no torsion on my front knee now. Incredible. Can't believe I've never tried this before today! Thank you so much!
Sorry but I’m still having a little trouble understanding to concept, anyone would like to explain a little more. I’m also a bit confused bc I see Simon on a linear line, same as Cole Redalen, or am I just blind?
Any tips on nose angle? I feel like I'm getting good snap on my throws now, I hear a snap and the disc seems to come out fast, but I can almost always see the stamp while the disc is flying so I think it's just absolutely killing my distance, because now only is it flying slower, but it stops my discs from turning over to get any type of s curve.
question? sometimes i can initiate the slingshot with my back leg and sometimes i cant i think it has to do with timing but maybe you can answer me this. How does one initiate the sling before using the fast twitch muscles etc???
Hey I’m a little confused. Are you saying stay in a straight line from your target with your feet parallel or keep your feet parallel while having the angle of your target slightly off center?
Another important point about the magic position is that you can only get into it by driving off the back leg. If you jam your weight into your front leg your back leg will be straight, disengaged and act as an anchor which slows your rotation.
This makes sense but now I’m struggling visualizing my run/walk up. If your “run up” is straight at the target, how do you put yourself at that angle all of a sudden. It seems like you’d want to start at the back right corner (for righty) and go at and angle but I’m pretty sure that’s wrong too. My brain hurts.
@@MichaelFloyd12 I’ll check those it. Once I actually tried it it didn’t seem that difficult. The visualization makes it seem more complex than in practice.
update: this "magic position" is a game changer. been working with it at the course. instantly got more distance and just overall better flow with my movements.
wow man. i literally was watching vids of my form compared to pros for about 2 hrs last night and made some strides but holy crap this is such an easy and beautiful explanation of what is actually happening and can feel a difference just standing in room doing it
Hum, i'm trying to actually translate some of the elements here into playing ultimate to get longer throws when needed.. where the back leg usually is stuck as a pivot foot.. (not talking about the the run up pull)
I have found the pull to be the only similar aspect of Disc Golf v Ultimate. At least my pull is going way further since switching to Disc Golf lol Everything else in Ultimate just seems like arm only since you can't push off back leg without getting called on travel
@@MichaelFloyd12 well I'm trying to get my pivot foot to be pointed in the correct direction before I throw to allow for hip rotation.. otherwise if the pivot foot is pointing in a less than optimal position you end up only using energy from the waist up .
I've heard som many people, teachers and pros say you runup stright towards your taget. But this is absolutely not that. I feel like for a 330ft shot its true for where I want my disc to LAND - but not for the actual line I'm hitting, since a straight shot is seldomly 100% straight, more like a little left-to-right movement and the som light fade. Even if it's just 2 meters of left/right it makes a difference for my line. What your opinion on this?
For some reason I just CAN'T get this position down, even after watching this video. My right knee always turns either before or at the same time as the back knee so I never get into the 'Magic" position. I think I just need to forget about it for now and keep drilling everything else.
Amazing video Coach. This concept still is taking me to long to implement but I teach it all the time. Athletic throwing is the way to go! Slingshots for everyone!

So true. Coming from other sports I couldn't make sense of any form advice until slingshot. Everything else just kept me in the same space, even advice from pros was actively making my backhand worse
@@ShawnSchulzNot when what they say is clearly demonstrated in slo mo videos of them. Seems like he is basically saying keep your feet parallel with each other while having your angle not directly at your target. Which isn’t far off from just having a heel to toe stance.

Thank you for the wide screen format. Not often you see RUclips videos that can take full use of that sweet phone real estate
I can’t tell if you’re joking or not
This is great and true. U never see the pros x step into some staggered position.
Imo the Magic position is the position that Hilary Swank got into in Karate Kid 3 up on that post. Perfect form for disc golf

Easy one that helps is to keep the rear leg heel up helps u get on the balls of your feet which make the rest of these positions easier
