  • I have been holding on to this since I did this performance with David in 1993. This is the only copy that exists of this performance as the show timed out before we performed. This is a rare glimps into the warm, funny, talented and charming David that I knew. This performance features:
    Mat Gurman: Guitar/Vocals/Musical Director
    Mark Levang: Keyboards
    Billy Hanes: Bass/Vocals
    Lynn Colter: Drums/Vocals
This recording was in pretty rough shape and hard to stabilize. As noted, the camera ran out of tape and cartridge was replaced during performance. I edited accordingly to my best ability. I am posting this for the enjoyment of Davids MANY loyal fans on the occasion of his receiving a star on the Las Vegas "Walk of Stars".

He was my sweetheart from 1970 until the sad day he passed. I have his entire catalog. I also have the entire Partridge Family catalog and all 5 seasons of the show on DVD. He never got the recognition and appreciation he deserved for bringing so much happiness and inspiration to fans all over the world. He will forever hold a place in my heart. 💖

It is such a crying shame that he isn't more recognized as the great and versatile vocalist he was. "The Higher they climb, the harder they fall" and "Home is where the heart is" are still 2 of my favourite albums of all-time where he shows he can really rock. Your comment is spot on. He told me he was very into Jimi Hendrix and he would have loved to have more guitar chops. He would bust into a bluesy riff every once in a while. He was always experimenting with his rig also, working on getting a great rock sound because it was important to him. He had to resolve himself that people wanted the nostalgia. He tried to reinvent through more contemporary music but he knew what people wanted from him. He was very aware of different styles of music and could get into different styles effortlessly. We did a reggae version of I think I love you for the “This is your life” show. It was a great idea and all his. Most fans did not embrace it. Sad. It’s up on RUclips. Smoldering version. He was sick that morning with a sore throat but you would never know it cause he was such a pro.

This is from my private stock from gigs I did with him. Everything else was aired and shared because it was available from other sources. This performance took place after the show finished and was never aired, shared or broadcast. I have saved it for nearly 30 years before sharing publicly.

David was a rare gem. This is the kind of music he always wanted to play but the Partridge Family people wouldn’t let him. He had to cater to teen heartthrob music they wanted. There’s more videos that has him playing his music. Gone to soon. If I could I would start a campaign against alcohol in some way. Alcohol has taken 5 people from my family starting with my husband who was only 35. The last was my nephew who always told me I was more of a mom to him than his own mom. He was 33. I’m struggling so hard still trying to deal with his passing. It was 6 months ago. There’s not one day that I don’t just breakdown in a flood of tears. He was my baby. I don’t think I’ll get thru this one. It’s too hard. 🦋🦋🦋

oh my goodness, David was the very first guy I ever saw that made me say 'wow, he's gorgeous', that was in 1969, I was 11 that year, he was an actor then, in my eyes he was always that gorgeous guy, just even more so when he started singing.
