- I went over a bunch of questions from my followers on all platforms for this episode of 2 Wheel Tuesday on CW2 Training Live. Also shared some reasons for leaving Sherco and taking on this new endeavor. Some stuff has already changed on the new setup already from what I mentioned, but I have really been enjoying the whole program so far.
This is the most open and clear a major player has ever been. Cody is the boss.
I’ve never heard a top dog in any discipline of moto be so open. This was awesome. Thanks
I can't imagine the amount of effort it takes to swap teams, become self employed, become your own content creator, and mechanic. Not 100% of it will be done correctly the first time, there will be messes, it will definitely be a learning experience- I applaud you for doing a great job, keep it up!
I'm not a 2-stroke guy but I have followed you over the past 10+ years, and have thoroughly enjoyed your openness with your builds.
It’s really cool to kinda get to know you guys on these channels. It really helps the sport. I love to see videos like these that you are doing. This resonates more with the average guy. Well Done Cody!
Yamaha is such a great platform. Great motor, great handling chassis and of course KYB. Can’t wait to see you win on it.
I bought my first Yamaha in 1972. I saved money from age 9 to age 12 to purchase a 1972 Yamaha GT-80
@@mikeskidmore6754 My first bike was a GT-80 red tank with yellow GT. Almost bought a restored one a few years ago. Dang the memories
We don't care what color of bike you ride, we support you brother!
I applaud your transparency!
We really appreciate you sharing this journey with us. Keep up the great content and we know your gonna be a contender this year!
hi Cody , big up on the media coverage, love the channel. From South Africa - This has to help Yamaha get noticed like nothing before,
Can’t wait to see you at Rorr, thank you for taking the time to make all these videos, sharing your experiences, and thoughts! Good luck this season!
Keeping it real. Yamis are solid bikes and look forward to watching you do well with blucru this year.
Over many years, I've always appreciated your openness and sharing of what you're doing and how you're doing it. While you follow your passion, you enable others to develop their passion. I like the fact that you're not sold out to any particular company, but rather the goal is to be the best Rider and ride the best equipment. Technology evolves and it always makes sense to follow the leaders. You get it done and put your own skin in the game. It's great that you display these traits and mentor others.
I have been enjoying watching the transition to Yamaha and knowing that you're working with stuff that's very capable, but not perfect. Making this stuff work and documenting it is great for regular riders on a budget. Enjoy the ride. 🐐
Happy New Year🎉 I wish you and your family the best in this coming year🙏
For sure have my own skin in the game now! That's for sure
@@codywebb2 What game?
Bro the 15% story touch my soul.
Like the others Cody, we too enjoy watching this project and appreicate all the work to give us mere mortals the inside developments! Thanks
Greetings from PA. Loving the videos and transparency! You’re definitely shaking things up and people are loving it! Hoping to see you at tough like rorr this summer 🤘🏻
Love the engineer approach to the bike build. Great idea with the Moose Balls fitted with the front bib pieces turned side ways. Whish I thought of that😉
Who knows but when you sort this stuff out maybe Yamaha will have a "Cody Webb hard enduro" package for YZ250 owners. Looking forward to more videos about what works.
Huge fan, appreciate what you’re doing for the sport
Been a fan for so long, Cody. Chased you around national loops before you were beating Pat every year and videos like these are why.
Always answered anything you could and helped anyone.
Can't wait to see what you accomplish on the yz platform 👍👊
Love seeing you on a Yz , super pumped about your build and have already purchased the Hitless kit 🔥🔥
Awesome video thanks! I’m in RORR and for TLR type trail riding the stock header pipe is amazing surprisingly. Better than FMF in my opinion. On my 23 250x, only performance mod is RK Tek head with 180M, 50P, **Plug the power jet, N8RG needle in 2nd and 2.5 air
Hey Cody, you're doing a great job with the channel/keeping everyone up to date.
Any plans to get together with Highland and try some Fantic XE300 parts like the stator/flywheel/fan/light etc.?
It's been great to watch the process. Props for breaking the mold and charting your own path! At least it is getting more content out to us to watch in the off season. Excited to see what you put together and look forward to following your success!
this whole deal is insane and I love it. thanks for taking us on every bit of the ride with you. can't wait to see you keep gaining traction and Yamaha pump some money into 250x aftermarket and your bank account!!
Awesome Cody! Love the engagement!
Good Luck Cody - From ZA
Love this Cody, thanks so much! I have two built YZ250X’s with Fisch Moto e-starts live these bikes so much. I’m really excited in everything you’re doing here. You are the talk of Montana!!!
Has it been reliable for you? How long you had it? What flywheel are you running?
@ I’m using stock flywheel weight on both bikes, didn’t know of other options. Also using Apex head with XC dome, and Lectron 38mm love these so much. Please keep up on your build love watching this!! I have had great success with Fisch, I can ride two days with out charging. If it’s cold I do kick it for the first start of the day.
Thanks!
I love how - just Honest you are Cody! Keep everyone informed and up to date! I will be cheering for you! Keep up all the hard work my friend.
good video, appreciate the details you provide
Very cool honesty Cody🙏I don’t know if you’re standard gearbox allows a 12/48 or 49 but worth trying,it definitely helps with exposing the big rear sprocket in the rocky technical stuff.Keep the good work up there ❤️🇿🇦
The engineering background makes your content truly unique. Subscribed!
CW makes the best videos. Just being you is awesome to hear how much your invested into making this project great. Ill now go watch Max poscast. I'm going to get a yz250 because of you. Like how your really focused on the must have stuff not selling because they pay you to say it. The black tank look insane 3.2. I'll get ENZO because of Donn and Ross Trueartist like your self.. gearing easy fix 13-52. Yamaha high comp head, hitlis mod, easy. mouse tubes, mako 360. GYTR flywhl. And a Arch lever DONE...only thing that is new is swing arm mods, please show more on that. I'm a vet rider wanting to Enjoy it all..Thanks for the free insight.
I've been using the Sudco Single taper CCL needle and they are nice and linear, strong off the bottom. Couple of good tried and true needles for the Keihin I'm sure you'll get it sorted.
My question is will Cody Webb now influence Yamaha to make a bigger bore 2 stroke that we all want? I believe you have that influence. Indeed, we needed you on Yamaha.
Cody, the Nitromousse NM18-285 worked great at Silver Kings with the 110/100 IRC VE33Gekkota. It only lasted 4 rides before it wasted but no drilling or hassle.
Hey Cody, make sure to run a break snake on that YZ rear break. I've been running these YZ's for a few years now and have had the shoulder bolt snap a few times when I catch the lever on a rock or stump. Since I've put a cable on it and tied it to the frame, I've yet to break one.
Bought a 23 Sherco sef300factory, then also acquired a YZ125...am 63 yrs widowmaker survivor. Enduro keeps me sane...
Always good to find a positive hobby that promotes the stoke!
Good for you..!! Keep riding.
I'm 75 and ride a Beta and a Husky, both 300s.
My son rides a Sherco 250 2 stroke and loves it.
I feel the Yamaha 250 YZX could be a nice enduro mount if changes were made. We will see what the future brings.
Cody, wouldn't you like the YZX to have Sherco type transmission ratios? Or is that even an issue?
@@carlatamanczyk3891 understand that in Europe alit if vet hard enduro riders use the yz125, takes more skill, but they swear by the lil 125.
@evopwrmods Yes, I know that. Small bore 2 stroke enduro bikes have been a big part of Euro racing for several decades. It depends on what you do.
I’ve had the AirMousse bibs on my 24 FE450 for about 15 hours and they have been awesome. Great feel and plenty of traction with a VE33s.
Following this journey for sure! Makes me want a Yamaha 😉
Helpful comment: 22 YZ250. Put Fischmoto Estart this last year. I had almost gone Panthera route but eventually did Fisch e. No stator. Using an AG SC-1 (150 cranking amps,5 amp hr 15.2 oz.) battery. Recharge after each session. Fits with Acerbis 3.0 tank but dont like crossover fuel lines. Tight getting to carb. but doable. Be sure and locktight allen head and recommended torque on estart. Mine was early model and didnt use thread lock. Came loose and broke woodruff key. Now ok and easy to work on. I have PowerJet mod, moto tassinari reeds, pc shorty, Pc pipe combo, no engine mods. Going with hitlis soon. Live in SW Colorado.
Good luck with your Yamaha racing!!
All that work to still be not as good as a ktm
@__-zn3gh I have had a few KTM's too. Currently also have 24 300XC & 19 500EXC & 17 TE250. Finally figured out what was causing a weird bog on throttle. Not worried about skirt hitting or CCPS going bad. Ha! Also found a pinched coolant hose with incorrect placement of clamp from factory on 300Xc when I saw coolant stains on head. No bike is perfect. As I am now 65 and less than limber with injuries (replaced left ankle) that make it hard to kickstart thats why I went the estart route. The hitlis has me curious too. Could make a great bike even better. For desert- Yamaha YZ250. Very reliable too. Have had 03, 05, 06, 07, 13 & 22 models. Not best for mtn trails but great at track and desert/desert racing for me. My 99 KTM 200 EXC was an awesome mtn trail bike. Not so good on track or desert. I dont like to compare them but instead look at them as complimenting my quiver for certain situations.
the yz250x is a FUN bike. Just has a nice fun style to it. Things I wanted most were estart and transmission changes, was happy with everything else
I’m so psyched to see IRC supporting your effort!
❤ IRC
Awesome!!! Great adventure moving forward. Good luck in the new year riding the new bike. 👍🏼😎
Good on you and RMATVMC on the hookup!!
Pretty sure even if you were on Schwinn you’d still be one of the top riders. Great talent and Great content.
Really interested in your final gearing. I went with a 13/51 to try to get some more 2nd gear riding but havent been really happy with that set up. All it seemed to do is harm the top speed (not that i'M that fast). My 02 KDX with thw same gearing seems faster on the top end. With that close ratio 1st and 2nd it just brns through the gears so quickly. Seen reports that a wr450 1st and 2nd will fit but i simply dont have the money to do such a mod. Honestly i havent ridden the 250x since december 2021 and have been riding the old 87 KDX. Seeing you are on the Hitles perhaps slowing that hit would make 1st and 2nd usable. Great stuff keep up the work
Now blue crew has the best 2 webs both are bad arss riders. Really looking forward to your new venture and wishing you success in 2025
Thanks for sharing. I'd think the concerns/issues you experienced at Sherco probably do not effect the average Sherco owner. We have 2 Sherco's in our family and are happy with them. I also think that Yamaha will get a boost in sales with this. I think everyone still anxiously awaits some major updates with Yamaha's offroad 2 stroke models.
I rode a YZ 250X hard Enduro for a while. Great bike. Highly suggest Apex head with xc dome and dropping a tooth on the front sprocket
The yzs bro ain't nothing like them. Awsome vid thanks for all the info
Using a 5Ah dewalt battery under my seat for the fan and led headlight. Ive done 6+ hour rides without running out of juice. Its when I go back to back rides without a battery swap (forget to swap lol) that I end up with a dead battery. I agree that the HITLIS is a great mod and would actually say its the second most helpful thing behind good tires
I’m using the Magura on the 250. I prefer the cable feel but it’s a lot softer with the hydro. If you like the brembo I’m definitely getting one.
I had a YZ250X for years. I ran 13/49 gearing, magura hydraulic clutch, Midwest mountain engineering clutch lever (better 1 finger egros, lighter pull), v force reeds/gnarly was the main things for hard enduro. It worked great, but it didn't like to go slow. Was a bit of a handful in the gnarly stuff. Probably not a big deal on a race bike where you're going fast anyway.
Regarding the fan... get the biggest lithium battery you can stuff in whatever spot, SPAL fan (super durable and moves a lot of air), and a Trail Tech TTO digital temp controller would be the ticket. I can facilitate the TT stuff if you want (I used to work at Trail Tech, we have met at King of Moto)
Cody once u get the fisch e-start on please figure out how to use the GYTR flywheel in conjunction with it. I know if would have to be machined down to work like how u did to work the Brembo hydro clutch
Debie downer - love it man
Cant beat yamaha, mostly for an average person, the price, the quality, how easy it is to work on a yz250, the parts available and how reasonable the cost is on everything aftermarket, jetting is easily one of the most painful but once you get use to it and know exactly what to use its great.
Thanks for your work 🤪🙏Yamaha
Have you looked into any ceramic coating or dry film to help with piston cooling or power increases? Just wanted to say thank you for sharing and look forward to see what you bring out.
Cody if you can post something what must install on the Yamaha for hard enduro that will help. Thanks
I'll get to that once I figure it out myself! I'm close
What's up Cody Hope you have a wonderful new year
Appreciate that! Right back at you
I got a junior rider for you this kid is amazing he's 21yrs old from North Alabama . every one has told me this kid is so talented he should race and I think he wants to race not for sure 100% but since he was 5yrsold he was climbing hills at west point tenn on a crf50 built engine that that seasoned riders couldn't climb you should invite him to ride I think you would be impressed
Cody you may be surprised how smooth the procurcuit platium pipes are for the trail .
May not be what your looking for but my YZ was so linear kinda like a turbo charger coming in thru the rpm range
As for front rotor guard sounds like an aluminum mount with a slick Delrin leading edge would be ideal.
Boogie loves Yamaha 🤙🏽
Hey Cody- do you think HITLISS is a good option outside of Hard Enduro? (Aggressive "A" pace harescramble racing, enduro, some moto, etc. ?) Thanks! Love the videos.. never imagined I'd see so much content on tuning the 250X! Such a great platform.. Keep it comin!
@scottardito118 For what it's worth I've been on a Hitlis system on this 05 yz for going on 90+ hours, about a year. This one has a 295 Eric Gorr BB jug but I have run both woods and desert kits here in the northern Tahoe area. What I've experienced is a more usable/tractable power delivery which works well with finding traction for tech/hardenduro riding but also use this bike with the Desert pulleys and 15t /50t drivetrain coupled with a WR trans, is the winter setup > more harescramble conditions. Top speed around 80mph but still capable of tight double blip rock problems, & slow speed trail work. I have not track ridden this bike however with the proper susupension settings the motor would work really well, especially on blue groove low traction conditions. To give some context I've had serveal yz 250s over the years most used for track however moving forward I will always run a Hitlis for the power tunability, Robust actuation of thePower valve /eliminates PV flutter. I apologize for the rant folks, but the sytem is well thought out and it gives an impressive usable power delivery. If you like light switch power band this is not for you, but if you like the feel of an electric motor torque with 2t smell and Yz sound then you may want to check it out!
Love what you’re doing
Thanks for taking the time to put this out!
Curious about your cockpit settings for a tall guy. Have you done anything with aftermarket pegs (ie. down and back)
I had a 13 yz250 it was my first 2 stroke bike and it fit me perfectly as a woods bike I loved the bike but ended up selling it because we had to sell my sons bike after it blew the second time now all got bikes again I got a brand new tbi 300 but I been looking for a used yz250x to pick up also because it’s one of the best 2 stroke bikes in my opinion.
I've also never needed a fan on my YZ before, only a hand full of times have i had it surge from being to hot. Like when I'm climbing hills, hard on the clutch and it's the middle of summer. I've never boiled it over before tho
Can you post a link to the Brembo kit you are talking about ?
Way to live life Cody . Nothing wrong with playing on different bikes.
Joeymac and Dana! Nice choice for goggles!
On the clutch side: A friend of mine uses 3 YZ125 Clutch Springs and 3 stock YZ250 springs. He says it doesn't slip under hard acceleration, but the pull is noticeably lighter... I don't know which year model YZ125 clutch springs he brought....
When talking about the jet settings, I was hoping you would say something about using the smart carb instead. Not for this bike? Also, I'd like to recommend you use a dango design mount for the gopro when attaching a camera to the helmet (non-race days) and use linear mode on the camera. That way, we can hear your rolling comments, the POV is better, and in linear mode we'll better see how steep something is and not have distortion.
The Polisport front disk guards are awesome, I agree about the aluminum style! Any plans to play with ignition timing? I remember reading about retarding it an extra degree or 2 to really mellow out the power delivery.
Wish ,have a nice start with your new team
Not sure if the question has been asked or you can share with the viewers but has anyone ever asked the Yamaha Engineers/ development team why nothing has been changed to update the bike towards an enduro bike over the last 20 years? Slapping on a new gear and an 18 inch wheel maybe a small start but the questions you are asked i noticed are hydraulic clutch, 300 design, e-start, gearing etc. Just curious why Yamaha is not trying to take back the market share they once dominated, I guess now is a good time to start. Good luck with the build, were all excited for you.
Japanese companies are pretty conservative by nature. Let others do the R&D while focusing on quality and price point.
I wouldn’t want a hydraulic clutch on my yz, my yz clutch feels better then my 350
@@warrenstemphly5756 for 20 years though?
Do you change the Counter shaft sprocket size to get different loads on the suspension. We like the 12t on the KTM for better splatters. Try the Boyesen X Wing and water pump. Maxima Racing Off road coolant
Thank you for showing us your process. It's very interesting, I must say. How about a go fund me page to help you through the upcoming season?
You are doing all the hard work to build the bike we wish we could buy from Yamaha. We are all hoping that you can prove to them it’s worth investing into 2 strokes again 👊🏼
Glad your Blue 🎩🍸🧙♂️
Can you get them to come out with a 300 6 speed electric start and a kickstart
Love the candid feedback on every part. been a YZ follower but haven't owned one. it's on the list of bikes i would get if i could have more than one. Keep it up with the engineering talk. most of us wrench our own bikes out of necessity. your feedback as a pro/engineer is hard to find other places.
You're on track with the jetting changes and how they relate to the volume of the engine. Essentially it's the ratio between size of the carb and engine displacement. Smaller engine with the same size carb need larger jets because essentially you're pulling less vacuum (less venturi effect) at any given RPM so to get the same fuel you need a larger jet. That's why you'll see 125s with 38mm carbs running bigger jetting than a 250 with a 38mm, and why 300s generally have smaller main jetting than 250s. I never heard of running larger pilots at altitude but it makes sense given this principle (maybe less dense air makes for less vacuum at low velocity in certain situations) .
Rocky Mountain seems to be a good Mail order operation. All the same Companies like Alpine Star should be sending you Free Boots ect.
That's funny that Manufactures think the people that watch Super Cross on TV or in person are going to be buying their gear.
Any comments on your rear axle placement? Do you always run the same wheelbase?
The new nitro mousse setup is sick!
Are you gonna partner with an action camera company for your program? Wondering about Smart Carb compared to Kiehen carbs. Happy New Year!
Appreciate the honesty about why you switched to Yamaha...can't wait for you to tell us about the Hitlis!!
Be aware of the clutch push rod tip wearing from excessive heat . My son's 2019 Yamaha YZ 250X had worn close to 1mm on the tip of it with about 100 hrs on the bike and when he was racing Intermediate A class the clutch would not disengage for him. The bike would contantly stall on the hills in first gear and in the hard terrain. We were running a MSR adjustable clutch lever and even trying to adjust it didn't help. I would recommend keeping a couple on hand and check regularly. Part number listed below:
Nice to see you taking on Yamaha for the hard enduro. Can't wait to see the results.
My son loves his Yamaha YZ 250X's - sold one and with 200 hrs then bought a KTM. Then almost immediately went out and bought another 2019 YZ 250X with 5 hrs.

Hi there, did you look through the Fantic parts. I dont know, maybe you could find so.e suitable stuff there..
Does STI make carbon fiber rotor guides? It is a local Colorado Company, maybe try and reach out to them and see if he makes some for Yamaha. I have them on my KTM and they are awesome.
Team blue lets goooo
So are you going run a smart carb at some point or are you sticking with a stock carb
Stock carb work better in low-end /midrange
can general public access the airoh distro? i run the aviator and would love to buy parts stateside if possible, thanks and congrats on the new gig!
If yamaha gets serious i will buy a two stroke for hard enduro as my next bike, but they have some catching up to do. Been wanting a good japanese off road two stroke as good as modern austrian bikes.
Bought my first ktm this year at retail price despite getting cost for Kawis. The japanese need to jump on this. Better late than never!!
He must mean VX 30! 👌
