YZ250 Brembo Hydraulic Clutch Conversion with Valentini Technologies

  • Follow along as I install the Valentini Technologies Brembo Hydraulic Conversion kit on my YZ250X. This add on was a game changer for my setup on the bike this year. The stock cable is great for 90-95% of the riding we do, but in the extreme nasty terrain, I was struggling with the clutch getting hot and having to adjust the cable on the fly. The main benefit of the hydro system is the hydraulic system automatically adjusts. So your engagement window of the friction zone on the clutch rarely changes much.
    We had to do some slight modifications to the GYTR flywheel weight I was running, so I now have two custom flywheel weights in two of my bikes. Pretty rad being able to actually use my engineering degree and put all these products to the test.

    If you still wish to run the stock cable clutch, then I highly recommend switching to this ASV lever. Made the lever pull easier, adjustments were easier on the fly, and you can get a more fine tuned feel at your fingertips.

    I went thru the same dilemma. I tried fly wheel weights including the stealthy bolt on. I found the low end grunt and top end blur when I tried the ESR 325 kit (pump gas and HC domes come with the kit) with an lectron carb. I did this with a ‘16 yz250 pre X model. Also installed wide ratio 3-5 gearing. I got the engine very close to a 2015 TE 300 but better. With the bigger bore there was no need for a flywheel weight. Vibration was cut in half from stock bore. Installed a new oem crank I had trued, balanced and welded at crank works. I also use a hydraulic clutch and 22mm offset triple from ride engineering and sprung by factory connection. Also look into the DEP pipe, best one I found.

      I just mill the YZ450 upper tree to get the 22.5mm offset and that made the bike... I'm way faster in the woods now.... Did the same to my WR250f

    You can machine the gytr flywheel and add weight out on the end, slightly.
    And or press a thin sleeve over the magnet area to gain back the loss weight.

    Such a better design over the Magura. I bought the Magura, installed it, rode the bike for 2 mins in my driveway and pulled it back off. Still sitting on the shelf 6 years later🙄

    In another vid I think you mentioned using the Boyesen RAD valve but this bike has the V-force. Not sure if you already went into any detail about it but I'd be interested to hear your opinion on the two. Also....have you considered a steel clutch basket? Somebody makes one but can't remember who....functions like a flywheel weight. Pretty durable too.

    • @codywebb2
      @codywebb2  5 дней назад +1

      I've mentioned the steel basket multiple times here now in the comments haha. And good eye on the reeds, I'm catching up on older content. This is actually before I got the chance to test anything from Boyesen. They came up with a 'hard enduro' specific reed block. Plus they have extra fancy doodads I can use on the bike as well.

    That clutch arm is the same on my rm250. I'm not keen on it with my magura and think that shackle bit should be bushed to the arm, mostly because it looks jank. However, I like the feel with my rm because the cam part (bit that pushes onto the actuating rod) is worn so the feel is quite linear. I have a non worn cam and I don't like the sudden break feel of the clutch.

    I ve used clutch weights also they do help just not the same as flywheel weights, but they don’t make them for yzs , I think the heavier clutch basket will work

    Cody is the Magura worth it? Obviously not going to be as good as the Brembo from Valentini but does it feel a lot better than the stock cable clutch? Looking to upgrade but some people say it’s not worth it and I know you run it on your fisch moto e start bike

    It doesn't matter where the weight is on the flywheel. As long as its balanced. its inertia. The long arm analogy is right, until its in motion. Then its just 2 spinning masses. Your probably right that when you kick the thing, it takes a bit more to swing around the outside weights. but as soon as its in motion, your not SPINING it, you are relying on its conservation of momentum. That extra weight while it takes more to kick through the compression stroke, it has more momentum to get through the next.

    • @joshmatthews300

      Moment of inertia: “a quantity expressing a body's tendency to resist angular acceleration. It is the sum of the products of the mass of each particle in the body with the square of its distance from the axis of rotation.” The further away the mass is from the axis of rotation, the greater the moment of inertia.
