This video has left me pretty stunned. I've been working with Fimo air light (and Efaplast light for as long as it was available) and I've gotten pretty decent results with both. I'm making small, realistic pet portrait and fantasy figurines and I actually love working with those clays, but now I really want to try the better ones and see how the work flow compares.
Hey Maqaroon, I hope you're doing well? Thank you for taking the time and so much effort to educate us on The BEST and WORST Air-Dry Clays!!! I really appreciate the amount of time you put into this EXCELLENT video. Thank you so much. Take care and keep on crafting your passions. Peace & Joy :D Love your work.
I know this video is really old but it’s giving me a lot of nostalgia. I was OBSESSED with this channel back in the day… I bought mermaid puffy one time in my whole life because of your videos and I still remember how much I liked the smell, lol. I was devastated when it ran out. I haven’t done much crafting in the past few years but this inspired me to go buy some Hearty clay before I head to uni 😁 thanks for everything
If anyone in England doesn't know where to get some of these clays, if you go into hobby craft, you can find Fimo clay ( around £5-£6) and you can find some of the crayola magic clay in the children craft area. Hope this helps anyone!
You guys need to stop underestimating the community. I think other people *do know* the difference between the clays. Especially when the clay is labelled as "Fimo Air dry clay" 😅 there could be various reasons why the fimo air dry clay didn't work for her, but for him and others. It could've been a bad batch. Who knows.
Two things with Model Magic: 1) The smell is possibly due to the plastic bag. It tends to pick up smells very easily, however the odor will go away is moved to an air tight container instead of keeping it in the bag. 2) It will dry faster if you have a dryer room. My office is much dryer than most other places in my home and that is where I put my model magic pieces to dry. However the long drying time is a bit of a dream for some cosplayers. With its long drying time is it pliable during crucial parts of costume making, allowing itself to be bent if anything should shift, or needs to be reformed (like armor) it will reform with it.
Ethereal Priestess I'm half Japanese so I embrace it ☺️☺️ all my friends think I'm cool cuz I get all the anime, kawaii, Sanrio, all that stuff. I teach my class how to speak Japanese to
All Things Ava same! I get that cutesy stuff and my friends think it's really cool so I'm proud! I'm currently visiting Japan and its a BEAUTIFUL country! It's so different from where I live. My friends want pictures so I'm going around to popular attractions and taking pictures for them!
I don't even know where to buy those japanese clay :/ I've been trying to find paperclay but couldn't find one (I live in Canada). Also I never order online 😐
Hi! You should consider starting to shop online because you can often save a lot of money and find really rare things that you can't get in local shops. The only way to get japanese clays in most countries is to order them over Etsy or Amazon
+doriosity no sadly :/ I live in Montreal and I searched if there's a Daiso in montreal but there isn't. Thank you for the information :) if one day I come across a Daiso ,i'll thank you a lot 😄
In my opinion I absolutely love Crayola's model magic. I used it to make my Karkat horns. It's super light weight. It's aimed for children but honestly it's amazing!! Although this is only my experience from a rather small not so detailed project. But I was in a bit of a con crunch and it was still slightly squishy when I wore it, but it still held up!!
Everybody, let's thank Joanna for doing all of this for us! You didn't get the credit you deserve, but right now, I want to give you this credit because I love you. You do so much of this and we use these. Whoever hates on her, why are you here!? She posts these because she loves doing this and wants to help us. Her channels are for the people who thanks her for all the hard work she's done for us while doing this. Now, I wrote this comment because I want to give her the thanks and love she deserves. I hope all of you will too by agreeing by replying to me, liking this comment, subscribing to her, and like her videos. Remember, I'm doing this for her, and not me.
+Emily Melchorlazcano I'm sure you don't have to use pay-pal. Usually there should be a part WITHIN the website that you can pay with. I don't really know, but hope this kinda helps
This was so helpful! And I tried to sculpt with Fimo, thinking it would be one of the better ones since it's such a popular brand, but I couldn't make it work at all. I felt like my skills died from when I was still in school and felt terrible about it. I will definitely get some hearty and sculpt with fresh confidence ^^ Thank you!!
This video is soooo great! It was really informative and you can tell that you put a lot of work in it. Your english is amazing! And sorry if you've already done that but could you make that kind of video with polymer clay someday?
Sophia Bailey I worked for it for at least 40 minutes and was shaking and my stomach hurt, like REALLY bad. I had to take medicine and my head felt a little warmer than usual. It's TERRIBLE!
For those of you who can't afford to buy online, if you ever get around or live near a Daiso, you should check out the clay there! They have colors that are pre-colored, so there's not only white. Also, it's extremely affordable. It only retails for $1.50-2.80 depending on where you live. I once got a chance to LA and checked out the clay they have there, and it was great! Highly recommend you too check it out!
When I went to Daiso in California for a trip, I tried out their paper clay, and it was a bit of a disappointment. It was very crumbly and dry, and it always cracked when I tried to sculpt with it. I tried it one year, then the next year tried again. Same results. It is okay for making sweet deco cream, but not very good at all for other things. That is why it is so cheap. Then again, this could just be my experience.
+Jayori It definitely seems that way! I always bought my clays there and I had no problems with it. Probably the clay that was quite old so your store might not restock so often that's why your clay might be crumbly. Maybe use a bit of water to soften it? I'm not sure but I never had a problem with Daiso clay.
I don't think model magic smells bad. I only use clay for slime so that's why I use model magic to make butter slime. Who else doesn't think that model magic smells bad? I think it has a smell but not a bad one
Thank you for making this! And thank you for showing how each clay is. I'm planning on making chibi dolls/figures around Christmas and I didn't know what clay to use. Now, I know which one! (Hearty obviously xD)
I'm honestly proud of Crayola for doing pretty good in this test. Since I'm just staring out with clay, I'm probably gonna ask my mom to get some the next time she goes to the dollar store. Thanks for the information!
I love those flowers! They look just like real flowers. When I saw them first,I thought they were real. But when you said that it was the flowers you made to test, I was amazed, surprised, and also very shocked! I have never made something that realistic! Good job and keep it up!
I know this video is really old but Joanna I just wanted to extend my thanks to you. I'm new at making cosplay props and decided to use air dry clay to fill in some tapering gaps in a staff that I need to be able to sand and cannot heat up. When looking at all the brands in the store I remembered watching this video forever ago and used it as a reference for picking the right clay. I know that what I'm doing isn't what you made this video for but it was really helpful nonetheless! Thank you!

That video was so helpful! No one has money or patience to waste on the wrong air dry clay! Thank you for doing all that work and sharing your results. I feel a lot more knowledgeable about the various air dry clays.

HI! Yes, Fimo polymer clay (over bake) and Fimo air-dry clay are very different things. The polymer clay (small coloured blocks) is quite popular with the RUclips crafting community and you can get good results with it. Fimo air dry clay only comes in white and is terrible, as shown in this video
@@seenjeans Try the light "polymer clay that doesn't bake but is air dry and more stretchy and can hold it's shape better images.app.goo.gl/eHemDVE2jMZVNMGy7
Cheryl Choo Comparison on ONLY the clays in this video. Read it properly before commenting that. It makes u look like ur dumb even when u aren't. I'm not saying that you're dumb.
I just made my own cold porcelain clay and really like how it feels while molding. I'm using hand cream to smooth it out. It's definitely going to be teaching me patience upon waiting for my pieces to dry, but I have so many hobbies I doubt I'll get bored anytime soon lol
LEFTIES RULE I know for experience. I am a leftie veteran. Did you know that you can still be a veteran even if you are still in active duty? My uncle is in that case, it’s cool. Sorry.
This video was SO informative! I have recently started working with air dry clay and this was a great video to learn from. Will be checking out your other videos. Thank you!
I remember how huge of a confidence boost Igot when I first watched this video, since when I was younger, I would often craft with fimo clays and end up with really bad results and get angry with myself. Learning that many of ythe mistakes I was making weren't because of me but the clay made me really happy.
I'd love to see a tutorial on the roses done with the clay, they're so beautiful!

Agreed!

You should make a video teaching us how to make the flowers! It seems really fun, though time consuming. Like if you agree!

Fimo air dry clay is very bad but their polymer clay is great.
lunamøn yes
i truly hate both. fimo is much too hard.
the yellow daises in the PFP caught me off guard but it was pleasant ||-//
Maddison Ruthford the polymer clay is supposed to be harder
But air dry clay is not

i mean when you sculpt it, it takes longer to soften it while scuply takes no to little hard work to soften it.
Two things with Model Magic:

Model magic's smell actually goes away when you dye it with colour, because the smell of the paint takes over.
Why is this so satisfying

When I went to Daiso in California for a trip, I tried out their paper clay, and it was a bit of a disappointment. It was very crumbly and dry, and it always cracked when I tried to sculpt with it. I tried it one year, then the next year tried again. Same results. It is okay for making sweet deco cream, but not very good at all for other things. That is why it is so cheap. I feel like cost and rarity should have been involved in the judging
GlitterFever 592 but that depends where you live
Isabelle Nguyen I agree with you, but I feel like she could've at least rated cost and rarity from where she lives
When the shipping for Hearty clay costs more than the product :))
I got my hearty clay on ebay lol it was only 2 dollars worldwide shipping but the product was 4 or 5 dollars i think.
I get free shipping on Amazon Prime, plus 2-day shipping!!

Yep.
And I’m over here still playing and loving playdough...
I’ve only ever used model magic for horns before and I don’t really mind the time taken to dry. I ended up using the clay for the base and letting that dry, and putting spackle on top so I could sand and texture them. I’ve had them for years and are still the best technique I’ve tried!

Huh... i have seen some people using fimo and their pieces looked great. Maybe they have different types and some are better than others?
HI! Yes, Fimo polymer clay (over bake) and Fimo air-dry clay are very different things. The polymer clay (small coloured blocks) is quite popular with the RUclips crafting community and you can get good results with it. Fimo air dry clay only comes in white and is terrible, as shown in this video
ohh thanks that's why i was confused haha. Yes certainly they do have a big gap of quality depending on the product, then.
+Maqaroon can you make a tutorial on how to make the roses u showed in the video??
Amanda Flores i use fimo a lottttt it always turns out so nice fr mee i m always really happyyy this vid makes me sadd
I've looked at the reviews for fimo and they said you just need some water and maybe a bit of layering to make it work.
Your videos are so calm it makes me less stressed
Could you use daiso clay? I have so many packages because my mom works in a factory that makes daiso clay.
No daiso clay is rlly bad for sculpting
Daiso clay is good for slimes, at least
chris_exxe oml daiso is so bad for sculpting only for slime it’s good lol

Criteria! I learned that in 5th grade science 😂
I just made my own cold porcelain clay and really like how it feels while molding. I'm using hand cream to smooth it out. It's definitely going to be teaching me patience upon waiting for my pieces to dry, but I have so many hobbies I doubt I'll get bored anytime soon lol
Is she left handed?

Did you know that you can still be a veteran even if you are still in active duty? My uncle is in that case, it’s cool.
Sorry.
model magic made the sonichu medallion, sorry but all other clays are invalid.
This video was SO informative! I have recently started working with air dry clay and this was a great video to learn from. Will be checking out your other videos. Thank you!
that dislikes are by people who are from germany
...Wow.
So TRUE
She is from Germany...
Sapphire Wharf 74 She's from Austria
Not true. Fimo is the worst shit ever and everyone here knows it, lol.
The Efoplast and Fimo clay macaroons looked better than my best work ;-;
Hahaha me too
I remember how huge of a confidence boost Igot when I first watched this video, since when I was younger, I would often craft with fimo clays and end up with really bad results and get angry with myself. Learning that many of ythe mistakes I was making weren't because of me but the clay made me really happy.
What if you tried to make butter slime out of all of these clays? Like if you agree.
