There aren't words to describe how much I love this movie - everything from the sound track, the fashion and the teenage love story. This just hits in all the right places, what magic. Forever in John Hughes debt, born 1977 Oxfordshire, England ❤
@@henrikhansen1023 On the contrary. This movie brings sympathy to Ducky and the wealthy love interest learns a lesson in the end and does the right thing. And It's time for you to do the same kiddo. You're a sad political slave.
The movie officially 35 years old! I forget a young James Spader is in it. John Hughes was a genius when it came to analyzing being a teenager in a grown up world. The movie does wonders ruminating over adolescent angst. Molly Ringwald is flawless and John Cryer plays Ducky so lovably. Robert Downey, Jr almost got the role. High School Musical director Kenny Ortega actually choreographed the infamous dance scene. The late Harry Dean-Stanton is perfect as the father. Even though the song didn't have the spirit of the movie Molly Ringwald actually came up with the title after hearing it. Glad she's still acting today in television on Riverdale, Cryer on Supergirl, and Spader voiced Ultron in Avengers 2. It's relatable as a teenager we worry about insecurities, what others think of us, our social class levels, and trying to believe in ourselves first. Really good gem of the 1980s.

This is a movie you can watch 5 times a year! A lot of morals to this teen classic romance comedy. You never bore of this movie! One overlooked moral is the “friend zone”. Duckie is the perfect example of what it’s like to be in the “friend zone”.
Duckie refused to accept the fact that Andy didn’t want him as anything more than a friend. That’s no “friend zone” just because he can’t force her to like him back.
We had the winning formulas for films back in the 1980's with the likes of John Hughes, John Landis, Mel Brooks, John Waters, Ron Howard, Joel Schumacher, Adriene Lynn, the Zucker Brothers, Merchant Ivory, Richard Prior, George Carlin, Steve Martin, Robin Williams, Terry Gillium, Ridley Scott, James Cameron, Eddie Murphy and Paul Schrader.
I left this film thinking neither Blane nor Duckie was right for Andie. I think her guy is someone kind of in the middle of both. So I just enjoy it as one heck of a period piece in the best decade ever!
I saw this film when it first came out in the 80's and still love it today. I've seen it more times than I can count, lol. I used to have pics from the film on my bedroom walls and posters of James Spader in particular. This film made me a big fan of his. Molly Ringwald is an icon. I'll never forget seeing her as Sally Bowles in Cabaret on Broadway during a holiday to NYC in 2002. She was amazing! :)
How a random thought can spark a memory of a movie I haven't seen in ages. Always remembered that jump to grab the banner but forgot which movie it was. I finally found it!
Very slick, well homaged updated trailer! Yet it does give a lot of the plot away, as another commenter mentioned. A little more mystery would work, but a fun summary of the movie. It was ace seeing the clips in HD!
Just bought this DVD at a used book store the other day. This is the only Molly Ringwald 80s movie that I've never seen, why? I dont know cause I absolutely loved her in the 80s and 90s. I guess I'll watch it this weekend, finally 🍿🍫🍬🥤🎬📽
John Hughes films were smart in the way they subtlety took on issues of Classism. This film even referenced Karl Marx. The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink, Planes, Trains and Automobiles, and Dutch should all be studied by film students when writing a screenplay on issues involving class. Trading Places with Eddie Murphy should be studied for Films/Comedies involving Race and Class, and A Fish Called Wanda has a strong feminist message, but it's delivered without being pretentious or preachy. Film students and screenwriters take note.
This movie showed that no matter how much you might care for somebody they can leave you in an instant. The whole build up from beginning to end was supposed to be how the "rich hot guy" wasn't right for her and how ducky made her laugh and smile and genuinely cared about her. Ducky was always there for her and really made her feel genuinely special she even admitted to him how amazing he was, however on the other hand all throughout Blain made her feel like shit. After blain admitted to Andy he was embarrassed to be seen with her hes still able to swoop in at the end and take her from Ducky. Andy leaned nothing and this whole fantastic film was ruined be such a horrible ending.

Just saw a little of this on tv…never saw the whole thing. I was in an older crowd then. Anyway, I had no idea Jon Cryer is in it from Two And a Half Men!
I hate this film !! We are supposed to feel sorry for her for not being able to apply to the standards of 'Mr. Rich Guy' - while at the same time laughing at Ducky for thinking that he could be anywhere but in her friend zone.
I hate this dumb movie also. The actress going around feeling ashame of her social status and envying those with money. Pathetic. Molly is also a terrible actress.
@@SomberTwilight_uhh no the whole plot led to Andy realizing that Ducky really cared about her and even after "Mr rich hot guy" makes his mistake showing he's embarrassed to be seen with her he's still able to swoop in and take her. Andy literally learned nothing lmao. Shit ending that ruined a good film
I saw this in theater when it released with my girlfriend/now wife. She loved it, it was just meh for me. Do you also love the double standards?
Her whining about not living up to the standards of love interest while we the audience should laugh of Ducky?
I'm sorry but the movie was dumb, lame and boring. Also the actors especially Molly were horrible.
Meglio " Some kind of wonderful " per tutto , storia , protagonisti e recitazione...

You have really great taste. As someone who was lucky enough to be a teen in the 80's, my heart and soul is still there.

Yes, he was absolutely beautiful!
Anyone know the song at the end of the trailer??

What is the name of the music playing in the background?
Duckie deserved her attention, but as usual, the original love interest wins out. Good but, Breakfast Club is better.
He didn't deserve crap. He threw a fit like a "nice guy" and didn't even care what she wanted. She owed him nothing.
