Your observations are incredible. It's so refreshing. you're amazing.
Perlman contracted polio at age four and has walked using leg braces and crutches since then. As of 2018, he uses crutches or an electric Amigo scooter for mobility and plays the violin while seated. Perlman appeared on The Ed Sullivan Show twice in 1958, and again in 1964, on the same show with the Rolling Stones.Nov 4, 2018
Perlman was asked to play Schindler's List because he is widely considered the world's greatest classical violinist. He was playing on the Ed Sullivan show as a child prodigy 60 yeards ago. He isn't just good, he is on the GOAT list, with Stern, Haifetz, etc. He played more actively years ago. Has recorded with Pavoratti and almost every other major classical star in vocals and instruments. He and Helfgott did a CD together for SONY years ago ---- Perlman said it had been his dream for years to do a CD with Helfgott. I love Helfgott (His version of Yoselle Rozenblatt's Hallelu is stunning and his Selichos hav eto be herad live to be appreciated) --- Perlman is the more famous of the two.
It's interesting that you noticed he was far from the mic and still projected his voice- Orthodox cantors (which he is) in synagogue don't use mics when praying so they're usually accustomed to throwing their voice so everyone can hear them
I believe I was the one who linked to this video, so thank you for doing it. Helfgot is the top Jewish cantor (we specifically use that term for the operatic type of perfomers) and this is just the tip of the iceberg of what he can do vocally. Itzhak Perlman is a Grammy winning violinist who is from the best on the planet. The combination is truly soul stirring which is why I recommended it. Glad you enjoyed!
Keep in mind that many Jewish people grew up without their mothers or grandmothers due to the holocaust. I feel that lends an extra oomph of emotion to this song.
He is tremendously talented. He is also recovering from a very precarious COVID case, and itzik perlman rides a wheelchair. But two incredibly blessed individuals.
Wow I love your observation about the microphone! You bring me more appreciation for these wonderful Jewish singers! This one had me in tears. Helfgot is a treasure!

I’m loving these videos! You gotta do a “yossele rosenblatt” reaction. An old time famous cantor… he has some live performances from almost a century ago! Also “Moishe Oysher” and many more legendary cantors! would love to hear your reaction on those (puts helfgot for to shame lol)
This style of cantorial singing is called chazanos in Yiddish (or chazanut in modern Hebrew), derived from the word chazan, who is the person who leads the services in the synagogue
You should try "haleluka" from Helfgot (together with Freilach band & Yedidim choir), it isn't as much of a cantorial piece (still is a master piece) but SUPER musical
I absolutely LOVE that too (It was written by Yosssele Rosenblatt), although the rendition on the Helfgott CD with the Israel Philharmonic is much better --- Helfgott in peak form, bigger choir, and the orchestration is much better as a classical orchestra with a massive string and horn section rather than a expanded wedding band setup, which makes it sound much less operatic and regal.
@@R_Zelig_el True. Shulem Lemmer's version (ruclips.net/video/2wuMLgWQCpY/видео.html) has some good moments, but to me that arrangement is a complete disjointed mess. Worth a watch, if only to sigh and say "wow, that would have been nice if they didn't try deconstructing something that didn't need fixing". Wouldn't it be funny (and great!) if PortueguesePai was responsible for creating a bunch more fans of Chazzanus!
My personal pick of absolute best piece of Jewish music ever is this specific rendition of this song. Though a live performance, the video is not on RUclips unfortunately, just the audio. Not necessarily for a react video, but maybe just for your own pleasure. ruclips.net/video/rxG7CybNeGs/видео.html
Interesting pick, though I had that CD and really like that rendition. I think you might also like ruclips.net/video/xVeToZ-rIto/видео.html, and you might also like my alltime favorite: ruclips.net/video/25T37Dzo0Tw/видео.html HELFGOTT singing Rosenblatt's HALLELU.... That's what I i found on youtube, the absolute best was the version on Helfgott's CD (I think with the Israel Philharmonic --- the choir was a bit better and the music was 1000X better. Helfgott was a bit better in that one. But musically and vocally this is a materpiece in either arrangement. I think you'll like it! (Shulem Lemmer also did this ruclips.net/video/2wuMLgWQCpY/видео.html and his voice is great (especially from 5:00 till the end) but the arrangement is much worse than the one with the expanded wedding band --- it really requires a true orchestra---- a snappy arrangement makes the different parts of the composition sound disconnected from each other and takes away from the mood).
@@jedimmj11 All good! I hope you enjoyed my recommendations. If you get a chance to listen to Helfgotts CD rendition, its unreal. I was lucky enough to hear that Hallelu live on a Shabbos Rosh Chodesh when Netanel Hershtik and his choir davened at our shul.
Thank you for your great reactions! If you want to be blown away by Yitzchak Meir Helfgot, check this video out: ruclips.net/video/V9gUR3pUTIM/видео.html He performs at a wedding with the Mezamrim choir.
For pronounciation of the “Ch” of Hebrew/Yiddish words, when it’s written in English letters, it’s usually pronounced “Chhh” like you are clearing your throat, for example “Yitzchak” would be with the throat clearing sound, not “Ch” like in chip
So a cantor is a singer, but they also lead the community in prayer, and will read from the Torah on the Shabbat. Fun fact, this song is entirely Yiddish
You're right about the lyrics being annoying! because in the language (yiddish) that he's singing it it's extremely poetic, versus when you translate it to another language it loses all of that... it's kind of more like a reference of what the song is about
He's not really such a well-known singer in the Jewish world, but I would suggest you check out Benabi music (Goldstein), he has one of the greatest and most insane voices ever!!!
