I am a homemaker for the time being because we can't afford baby sitter for our toddler. I do almost do all household chores myself. Get vegetables and groceries from local vendors. We don't have AC or anything fancy at home. We use minimal furniture. The school I have opted for my child is also among the affordable. The cost of living is so high nowadays it's difficult to survive without any compromise.

No buying 4 wheeler because it is WHITE Elephant or Liability, so using Ola uber or public transport. Sir ji recently subscribed, I'm shocked by your observation and analysis. You are correct I live in Bangalore this has started.
    1) For baby sitting baby sitters are now charging approx. 20K per month for 8 hours. (and 4 hours she sleeps with child 🙂).
    2) House Cleaning alternate days (3k per month)
    3) Schools are 1.5 lakh average annually per kid.
    4) House rents 10-15% increase per annum.
    5) New flats close to office location double every 3 years (I think this will not continue at same pace, but still will be 10-20% per annum.)
    6) Car services expensive in Bangalore than any other city.

This is quite right sir ji. I remember myself growing up going to a government aided school. Private Schools like Modern school, DPS, Springdales, Bal Bharti , Cambridge - we could only look at with envy.
Buying my first motorcycle a Hero Honda Passion, and this is not so long ago - in 2002 - was a big thing. A big big achievement. I even remember taking driving classes and thinking this is the closest I will ever get to driving a car. Car ownership was that far away from our .minds.
Maid was unknown in our house growing up.
Last 20 years all three did come within grasp. But you have correctly highlighted that things are likely to go back to how things were during my growing up years.

I mean now a days most of the things are available over RUclips and all. even knitting, cooking , cleaning, almost everything.Nothing comes into our life easily. Basically girls/women have to learn to value money. Once they learn skills and starts earning then only they would value money. Kyu ki husband ka pesa kharch ne me maje hein but when you earn 100 hundred rupees yourself then you would spend it wisely.

    It’s a BIG mindset change.
(I am upper middle class in income here- I drive a 2007 Honda, I do my own dishes & home cleaning,I can’t afford a maid, my kids go to public school- can’t afford private schools
Alert: Divorce rates will increase as well, like the west (I heard- they have already increased in the last 10-15 years)

I agree brother. Upper class Indians don't know the luxuries they have compared to us in the West/
I am a female based in Canada now and am training in a Canadian university to become a school teacher. We are lucky that public education here is decent and free but cost of living is too high and so are home prices. My family and I already coordinate household chores as maids here take $200 CAD here just to clean house mediocrely once a month. We have a 2015 Toyota but my siblings share with our parents and take public transportation when it is feasible.
Long gone are the days of expensive luxuries.

@02:35 this is not a fair comment at all. I don't know which middle class housewives you are talking about who think cleaning house is not work that they are supposed to do. Maybe they want some space and time to themselves and not physically exhaust themselves to point of I'll health by the end of the day. No male is going to contribute to home beyond some symbolic stuff.
Please also talk about the other stuff they do do every day (mostly single handedly) which family members don't appreciate and many times actively criticise (house is not clean, my pants are not pressed properly, sabzi mein meri mummy aur sister jaisi mere hometown wali baat nahi hai). Here is a off the cuff list of what middle class housewives do every day (almost entirely without even acknowledgement as if these activities don't add any value):
Send kids to school with homemade packed lunch. Sometimes one snack tiffin and 1 lunch box. Make sure they have school supplies.
Clothes washing (off course in washing machine). Folding and some ironing.
Cleaning, organising and dusting the home. Deep cleaning - few times a year.
    Cooking - all of it.
All groceries and marketing including for fresh produce
Managing workers who do small time maintenance in the home
Paying attention to kids school work and home work when they return
Taking the little ones to activity classes and groups and arranging the same for them and Ensuring older kids are enrolled in some sports or other hobbies
Yeh sab kuchh appko Kam lag raha hai kyaa? And I detect a strong streak of disdain and disgust at the fact that middle class housewives want help for sweeping, mopping and vessel washing. That is judging I think.
I used to work for 23 years. I have huuuuuge respect for my friends and batchmates who exclusively handle and manage their homes. My humble and constant salute ladies.....don't be afraid to ask for help, insist on it and if u want to give away 3-4 jobs to focus on health and interests - please go ahead. Go for good gadgets and electronics that can help us and reduce your dependence on maids - no. 1 purchase - automatic washing machine and a good dishwasher.

you are indeed right about western world in general and America in particular where housemaids are unheard of. I was born in India but have been here in America for majority of my life - came here as teenager ad have been here since almost half a century. Eduated, made career and raised family here all without hired help.
Yes, we do not have custom of having housemaid here, but I will tell you - we love that just fine. For one thing, we have high standards of cleanliness and hygine, so it is best that we do household work ourselves to our satisfaction. Also, we are rather independent people and prefer not to have outsiders intrude in our day to day life. Afterall, maid would be an outside party who would be in and out of your home few times a day - too much unnecessary and unwanted traffic for us. We prefer our privacy over minor benefit of someone doing our chores.
In fact we are about to retire and even if we decide to spend some months in India (Airbnb, etc), we will just do our own dishes, laundry and house cleaning. We are just too used to it.
We totally love not having to depend on outside help for day to day house work.

    Hello Sir,
You speak the truth and many of these trends are already happening in the West.
I am a female based in Canada now and am training in a Canadian university to become a school teacher. We are lucky that public education here is decent and free but cost of living is too high and so are home prices.
My family and I already coordinate household chores as maids here take $200 Canadian dollars here just to clean house mediocrely once a month. Even our father who refused to even put his dirty plate when we are young has slowly changed his ways.
We have a 2015 Toyota but my siblings share with our parents and take public transportation when it is feasible.
Mindlessly spending money on luxuries is something we do not do as we want to build wealth for our future generations.

Homemaker n art of homemaking are getting extinct. You depend on maids n tuition teachers n nanny to run house. To pay them, get up at 5 n get bfast n tiffins n kids n urself ready n do 10 more things before u actually start paid work.. finish paying job n return to your peaceful abode n before u sit down for a cup of tea.. catch up with kids, cook, mom in law n their complaints. Meanwhile what’s spring cleaning n deep kitchen Maintainence n wardrobe upkeep.. Sunday is for drinks n party n dinners n shopping n collecting more toys n clutter. Work harder outside to pay Someone to work at ur home n teach ur kids. Then u need more clothes n makeup n parlour visits too. We create our own problems n keep busy to cope with them. N don’t talk about small entrepreneurs.. just so much mediocrity.. no professional approach. Not easy to handle all aspects of doing small business. U need funding n manpower n space. Otherwise ur business is all over the living space of family.

Here in Banglore doing household work is not seen as such a big headache as you are saying about it. I have seen many people many people managing with out
maids even while lady is doing job.

In north males dost help in household work and i have seen ladies dont even bother about
Washing clothes in washing machines and arranging clothes in balcony to dry
Used cups plates lying beneath the bed sofa
When maid comes she clears all

Very nice points. I think we're spending on schools to help our kids acquire social skills and massage our ego and status. The education given is, pardon my language - shit! Schools tend to pay more importance and attention to the 1% of students who are already talented inborn but what do the remaining students do? The slow learners languish at the bottom and struggle. They are pushed to rote and develop no skills of the real world. After we spend lakhs of rupees, we again spend to make them employable. Homeschooling can be an option. Average students academically, try to find their talents in careers like writing, graphics, animation, etc. Don't push them into engineering - that's costly and there are hardly any jobs.

One of my relatives children are doing home schooling! 0 fees. Online classes at very nominal fees, exams once in 2 years till 10 standard. They have learnt lot of skills because they spend only 2 hours on studies / homework / learning. Children are healthy and happy. No stress.
